The first time I saw him, I knew he was the boy for me.
The first time he spoke to me, I blushed and ran away.
The first time he asked me out, I was so excited I didn’t sleep all night.
The first time we went out, we laughed and talked so late that my mother worried until I got home.
The first time he kissed me, my body tingled all the way to my toes.
The first time we made love, I was frightened.
I couldn’t imagine giving myself so completely to anyone, but when Zack smiled at me and said, “Come on, Aerith. Trust me,” I knew that my SOLDIER wasn’t just anyone. I nodded, even though I was still scared.
We walked hand in hand through the ruined church where I picked lilies to sell. He knew it was my favorite place in Midgar, one of the few beautiful places in a city filled with dirty technology.
Sunlight streamed through what remained of the stained glass windows, casting colored shadows across the broken pews and patches of delicate, white flowers. We stopped near what had once been an altar and he dropped my hand, his face clouded with uncertainty.
“If you don’t want to do this...” His shoulders rose and fell. “I’ll understand.”
My stomach filled with butterflies. I tingled in places I hadn’t known I could tingle. Just thinking of Zack, of lying naked with him in the church, of feeling his strong hands on my bare skin, excited me in ways I couldn’t begin to understand.
“Will it hurt?” I asked with a flush to my cheeks. He’d think I was foolish and just a child.
Turning to face me, he nodded, taking my hands in his. “I don’t want to hurt you.” His gaze dropped to our hands. “I think...I love you, Aerith, and...when we do it, I want you to be okay with it, too.”
It was all I could do not to throw my arms around him and hug him. He was the best boyfriend a girl could have.
Instead, I led him into the shadows and kissed him. That was all the answer he needed. With trembling fingers he undressed me and with warm lips he caressed me. His hands, broad and certain explored me, tracing each angle, memorizing each curve.
I marveled at the beauty of his body, at his gentle grace, at the way he knew where to touch and what would bring me the greatest joy. Beneath him, I found more pleasure than pain. Astride him I returned that which he had given to me so freely.
And when we lay spent, watching pollen pirouette in the sunlight, I knew I was his and he was mine...forever.
