He wakes abruptly, as though cold water had been thrown upon him in his sleep, but he is warm and dry, and tucked into a bed. The last thing he saw before he fell was the downward arc of the Palamecian soldier's sword. He shakes his head and sits up slowly, catching the attention of the soldier standing guard just inside the door. The soldier turns and taps twice on the wooden portal.
A moment later, the door opens, revealing a tall black-cloaked figure. As soon as Leon sees him, he feels as though his muscles are no longer his own. He does not want to do it, but his body immediately climbs out of the bed and sinks to its knees before the black-cloaked man. Leon struggles to regain control, but it is like fighting against a glass wall, invisible but still strong.
"Serve me," the man says.
Leon is bent forward, his forehead pressing to the floor, his mouth shaping words that are the opposite of his own intent. "Yes, Emperor Palamecia."
