A Kingsley Question
I hope this type of post is allowed, if not, feel free to delete it.

I'm currently trying to write a Kingsley story and have a question regarding his age. I've consulted the HP Lexicon and they don't have any cannon info, so I guess I'm just looking for people's overall impression. My understanding is that he wasn't in the Order of the Phoenix the first time around and is therefore younger than Harry's parents would have been, but other than that I have no idea.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

	Fanon has Kingsley as being anywhere from a year or two younger than Harry's Parents to being closer to Tonks in age. I think he'd have been a first year when Severus and co. were seventh years, but that's just my silliness. (Reply to this) (Thread)

	It makes sense that he should be somewhere in that range. So you think about 6 years younger than Severus. That would make him around 34 for DH, I think. (Is that right?) Thanks for helping. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	My canon source, gryffindorj, told me once something about Kingsley knowing James. I am not sure how well though. I'll drop her a line and see if I can get a concrete scoop on that. ;) (Reply to this) (Thread)

	Some people see him as older, like the elder Weasleys, some see him as younger than James and co, somewhere between them and Bill. As for knowing James, he does make a comment about how Harry looks just like James when he first sees him in OOTP. (Reply to this) (Thread)

No concrete age but here is what we can extrapolate: In Order of the Phoenix when some of the members of the Order come to pick Harry up from Grimmauld place Kingsley says to Remus that he's right Harry looks a lot like James. The familiarity at which he speaks of James leads us to having known James to some degree. When Tonks is helping Harry pack his room she's talking about being an Auror and mentions Kingsley is one too but more senior than her. So we know he's older than Tonks. Also he becomes the head of Auror department after Scrimgeour becomes Minister of Magic. Finally he was not in the original Order of the Phoenix so it's most likely he didn't know James from there. So best guess is he's around the same age as the Marauders and Snape, mid-thirties is my best guess, I would say maybe a year or two younger than the Marauders.

Does that help at all?

Butting in but did JKR say Harry was only the youngest Auror or did she say he was the youngest Head Auror as well? Because if she said the second Kings would have to be slightly older I think, since Harry had the gig at the same age that Lupin and Snape died. Kings was already Head before that. So maybe he's actually a few years older than they are rather than younger.

	Harry became Head Auror in 2007 so at the age of 27 so Kingsley can still be younger than the Marauders by a couple years and still not be the youngest Headed Auror ever. So Kingsley can still go either way...I'm mean in the age thing. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	He's not in the picture so it his 99% sure he wasn't in the Order as even the elusive Aberforth is in the photo. Basically the photo was a way to say who was in and who wasn't. OH! I have to go check but I think there's something in OotP about Arthur getting Kingsley to join. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	Oh yeah, I think I remember that as well. I'm just a little confused about the whole thing because I had always pictured him as around mid 40s but that would put him much older than all this indicates. (Reply to this) (Parent)
