When Nate took her hand Gwen opened her mouth to say that she would be just a minute, then his lips went to the back of her hand. Of course her first thought was...nothing as she was in shock. Her second was wondering if he'd brushed his teeth that day and the third was if he had kissed anyone else with that mouth of his on his way here. She swallowed, large eyes staring at the captain.
When he knelt in front of her she wanted to step back. "I..." She blinked as she took in his words, red deepening the color of her cheeks instantly. "But...I...." Staring at the rose she slowly reached up with her free hand to touch it. "Thank you." She smiled, gently taking it. She frowned, "Um....hold on." she grabbed up a glass box, dumping the two tiaras out of it from her performing days. She glanced around, grabbing up a silk scarf to set in the box before setting the rose in it. "Will it melt?" She asked biting her lip as she set it on her bed in the midst of the dresses. "I can bring back some kind of cooler. I haven't had a flower given to me...well by students I have but you're...far from being a student." Shaking her head she tried not to blush again.
Taking his arm she nodded as he talked. Settling down in what he called a dingy she made sure her dress was fine, tugging up on it to try to cover herself a little more as well. Rolling her eyes at herself she then tried to pull her hair around her shoulders to try to hide. Didn't work. Sighing she left herself alone. She'd just have to think of this as a competition. No need to be nervous, nice big calming breaths and show off everything she had.
Listening to Nate talk about the buyer she raised a brow as she was told not to run off with some old guy. "Um...ok." She made a face and watched Vegas pass under them. "I think I've done enough leaving in the past few days to last me for a while." Gwen said softly, feeling a sharp pang for home deep inside her. Nodding slightly Gwen smiled a little, "I'll try. What kind of things do you want me to try to know about him?" She wondered if she could read him at all, without him knowing. He was very old obviously, surely he'd know if someone was prying into his mind. Especially someone as inexperienced as her.
Grinning she lifted a shoulder, "You did say he was eccentric, probably his version of some joke." She had played the parts of a likeable young woman many times, smiling and keeping polite conversation with higher ups. You had to play the part they wanted you to at competitions and balls. Plus with the tourists, yeah, Gwen had a few masks up her sleeve. She could figure out what this guy liked and try to fit the mold to get close enough to him to find out what Nate wanted.
