Thursday
Who:Glacier, Ladyhawk & OTA
What:The sale of the DeVries Diamond
When:Early Evening
Where:From the KR to The LV Strip

Slipping the black bowtie around his neck, Nate tied it effortlessly as he glanced in the mirror and then back over his shoulder to Pavla in the bed, “I’m having Rosemary come sit with you. She’s very sweet and has some practice at nursing”, he pulled the bow tight, straightened his jacket and used a bit of gel to tame his thick, spiky, blond hair.

Walking over to sit on the side of the bed, he kissed the diminutive Romanian’s forehead, “Still feverish, poor baby. I’d have you in sickbay, but seems as if Doc Jordan has already flown the coop”, he brushed Pavla’s silky black hair from his face, “…I’m sure the Doc is out performing some unspeakable act even now”, he stroked the boy’s cheek, “I’m sorry I have to go, baby, but I’ll not stay away any longer than I need to, okay? I have to sell this diamond while I can”, he held the rare stone up and the light caught it’s many surfaces, casting beams of color on both of them, There aren’t many can afford such an item, eh?”.

Just then, a knock came and the captain called for the person to enter. It was Rosemary, the telepath. Though she was somewhere in her 40s, Nate considered her quite a beautiful woman and also ‘a good catch’…more than once she had fueled a fantasy on his ‘alone nights’. “Rosemary! Thank you for coming on such short notice”, he greeted.

“You’re more than welcome”, the attractive, plainly dressed woman returned, “I had no plans, really, and sitting with Pavla would be my pleasure”. You could tell she truly meant what she said. Rosemary was a disarming woman.

Clearing his throat, The captain bent to give Pavla one more kiss to the cheek and then say, “I won’t be any longer than I need to, Rosemary. I owe you one”. Then he was out the door and heading for Gwen’s quarters.

As he walked through the corridors of the ship, people passed dancing and laughing and talking about how much money they were going to win…everyone seemed to be in a party mood. Good, he thought, they deserve it!. Nate was never happier than when he saw ‘his people’ happy. Suddenly, there was a bounce in his step and a smile on his face. Maybe they would be in Vegas for a few days, eh? Stopping in front of Gwen’s door, he knocked and patiently waited, remembering the last time he was there.

It wasn't a question of having an actual dress to wear. In fact she had plenty with being a dance enthusiast. It was a matter of which would suit the occasion. There was a diamond, a big diamond, one that had been talked about for a long time and one that had been stolen by the very people on this ship.

Shoving the thought of being gunned down in the street because there was a stolen diamond near her, Gwen held a dress in front of her. Pouting at herself in the mirror, she just wasn't sure if it was the right one. She tossed it back on her bed and sighed. "Screw it." she threw up her hands, closed her eyes and pointed at her bed. Sliding her eyes open she raised a brow at the mint green dress. It was strapless, form fitting to her top down to her slim waist before becoming loosely elegant around her legs all the way to her ankles. A small train would flow behind her.

Gwen sighed and picked it up, slipping it on and fighting with the zipper along the side. She growled at it, finally getting it up. She then did her hair, leaving it loose, gelling it to a tame curl. She added a light hand of make-up to her face, green to her eyelids, and a light gloss to her lips. Studying herself in the mirror she made a face.

"I need to change." She nodded then there was a knock on her door. Whimpering she went to answer it, "I need to change this doesn't look good does it? I knew it didn't." she muttered and looked away. She looked at her dresses on her bed, "Maybe you should take someone else?" She glanced back at him, "All of them are kinna...they don't look right." She rolled her eyes at herself.

When Gwen’s door opened, Nate was startled for a moment. He knew the young woman was cute, of course, but she was stunningly beautiful as she stood there in a gown of mint green, wearing just a hint of make up, for she needed no more. He stepped inside and took her hand, placing a soft kiss to the back of it; he couldn’t believe that she was so insecure that she actually believed that she didn’t look good…the girl was a knockout.

With a wide smile, the tall, blond captain dropped to one knee while holding Gwen’s slender hand, “I came to find a sweet young girl and was pleasantly surprised to find an enchanting, stunningly beautiful young woman waiting for me. I will be the envy of the town tonight, Miss Gregory”. He held his free hand up towards her and a bit by bit a paper thin rose formed from the most delicate of ice crystals, “For you!”.

“Shall we go?”, he offered his arm and led her from the room. They quickly maneuvered through the hallways as much of the crew had already headed to town to begin their night of fun. “We’ll be taking one of the dingys down. Makes it quicker”, he informed Gwen, as they passed through the hangar doors.

Choosing a small, two-seat craft, Nate held the door for Gwen and then went around and climbed in the pilot’s seat, “We’ll leave the top up…wouldn’t want to muss our hair before the evening starts, eh?”, he smiled and winked at her.

As the small craft left the hangar bay and headed out over the brightly lit city, Nate informed Gwen, “We’ll be meeting with a mutant named Methuselah. He’s the buyer. His mutant power is immortality. No one really knows how old he is and he’s not telling. I’ve met him once and he looks about my age and he’s quite handsome. Don’t you go running off with him now!”, he teased. “I met him once when it was just Myself, Monkey and Vivvy. He’s eccentric, but very nice”, he gave Gwen a sideways glance, “If it doesn’t hurt you, I’d be interested in whatever you might pickup tonight”. Just over a majestic fountain the craft they were in began to descent, “Methuselah is staying at the Bellagio…he own a permanent room here. Oh, by the way, he changes his name every so often…this decade he is Justin Thyme”, Nate grinned and rolled his eyes, “You’d think and immortal would know better, right?”.

When Nate took her hand Gwen opened her mouth to say that she would be just a minute, then his lips went to the back of her hand. Of course her first thought was...nothing as she was in shock. Her second was wondering if he'd brushed his teeth that day and the third was if he had kissed anyone else with that mouth of his on his way here. She swallowed, large eyes staring at the captain.

When he knelt in front of her she wanted to step back. "I..." She blinked as she took in his words, red deepening the color of her cheeks instantly. "But...I...." Staring at the rose she slowly reached up with her free hand to touch it. "Thank you." She smiled, gently taking it. She frowned, "Um....hold on." she grabbed up a glass box, dumping the two tiaras out of it from her performing days. She glanced around, grabbing up a silk scarf to set in the box before setting the rose in it. "Will it melt?" She asked biting her lip as she set it on her bed in the midst of the dresses. "I can bring back some kind of cooler. I haven't had a flower given to me...well by students I have but you're...far from being a student." Shaking her head she tried not to blush again.

Taking his arm she nodded as he talked. Settling down in what he called a dingy she made sure her dress was fine, tugging up on it to try to cover herself a little more as well. Rolling her eyes at herself she then tried to pull her hair around her shoulders to try to hide. Didn't work. Sighing she left herself alone. She'd just have to think of this as a competition. No need to be nervous, nice big calming breaths and show off everything she had.

Listening to Nate talk about the buyer she raised a brow as she was told not to run off with some old guy. "Um...ok." She made a face and watched Vegas pass under them. "I think I've done enough leaving in the past few days to last me for a while." Gwen said softly, feeling a sharp pang for home deep inside her. Nodding slightly Gwen smiled a little, "I'll try. What kind of things do you want me to try to know about him?" She wondered if she could read him at all, without him knowing. He was very old obviously, surely he'd know if someone was prying into his mind. Especially someone as inexperienced as her.

Grinning she lifted a shoulder, "You did say he was eccentric, probably his version of some joke." She had played the parts of a likeable young woman many times, smiling and keeping polite conversation with higher ups. You had to play the part they wanted you to at competitions and balls. Plus with the tourists, yeah, Gwen had a few masks up her sleeve. She could figure out what this guy liked and try to fit the mold to get close enough to him to find out what Nate wanted.

Monkey had successfully landed the ship and then gone back to her room to shower and change. When she got back to her room, she looked at her bed. Then the clock. She had a few minutes, she could take a cat nap. Yawning slightly, she lay down on the bed and closed her eyes. She was asleep within minutes. And she slept for far too long. At the end of one of her r.e.m cycles her conciousness took hold and she shot into a sitting position. Fuck! She was late.

Ripping her clothes off, she ran into her bathroom and showered in record time. She toweled off and stood in front of the mirror, quickly throwing her hair up into an updo. She slicked her hair down and parted it on the side, sweeping her bangs across her forhead and then twisted the remainder up into curls and knots. She schelacked it with hairspray so it would keep the wet look even after it had dried. She swept some makeup on and painted her lips red.

Jetting to her wardrobe she flicked through the dresses hanging there. She knew exactly which one she wanted to wear. It was a short red number with thin straps and a fitted bodice. The skirt flared at the tops of her thighs and fell in jagged strips of sheer red material. She pulled some red shoes out of a drawer and began to assemble herself. A pair of dangly diamond earrings, a diamond necklace and tennis bracelet completed the ensemble and she gave herself one last look in the mirror before she headed for the dinghy bay.

She jumped into one and flew off toward the landing pad. She knew Nate had her by a few minutes and hoped she wouldn't miss him. She was in luck! It looked as if they were just landing themselves. She touched down and hopped out of the dinghy. "Hey! Wait for me." She nearly twisted her ankle in the strappy heels and cursed in Spanish. She shuffle-ran toward the couple as they got out of their dinghy.

"Sorry, I fell asleep! And I was not about to miss a meeting with the Immortal! Let's go!" She flashed them a smile, caught her breath and raised a dark brow.

Nate smiled...he was pleased that Gwen liked the rose. "The rose is around -100 degrees. It will be fine in the box until we return and then I'll have Serena whip you up a little cooler/display case". He liked this girl and hoped that she would enjoy her time on the ship and possibly find a boythat was worthy of her.

The city lights below were almost mesmerizing...Nate gave Gwen a sympathetic smile, "Gwen, I hope that your days of moving from place to place are over, luv. I would like the King's Ransom to feel like a real home to you.

In answer to her question about their host, the captain replied, "There's no real agenda. Methuselah isn't our enemy or anything...he's just a very mysterious man and I'm a very curious man", he smiled and gave the young woman a wink,"If this goes against your morals, luv, please feel free not to do it.I'll completely understand".

Landing easily on the Bellagio's landing strip, he helped Gwen out of the craft, straightened his tie and jacket and turned to enter the hotel when he heard a very familiar voice. He whirled around with a huge smile, "SERENA!", he hugged her gently, careful not to mess up her hair, dress or makeup, "I'm so glad you made it!", He took her by the arm and took Gwen by the other arm, "Look at me with the two most beautiful women in all of Vegas! The Immortal is going to eat crow tonight!", Nate exclaimed as they entered The Bellagio.

Leave to Methuselah to have the Penthouse Suite and to have it filled with celebrities, foreign royalty and dignitaries from the world over. When they entered, a young butler with a Swedish accent announced them and there stood the Immortal waiting to greet them. Nate marvelled that he didn't look a day older than he had 7 years ago...then again, why should he? It was rumored that he was at least 1,000 years old. The man that stood before them looked no more than 25 and was about the same height as Nate, 6'3". He was strikingly handsome with shoulder-length auburn hair and emerald-green eyes. His tux was a deep caramel color...his tie and vest, copper...the colors complimented his auburn hair and green eyes perfectly. "Nathaniel! Serena! It's been too long! Welcome! And who is this lovely young woman I have yet to meet?", The Immortal grreted, as they approached.

Gathering as much self control as she could possibly muster, Gwen made herself ready to meet with...a lot of people. There would be a lot of people there. People with all kinds of diseases, all kinds of germs. There would be people there that hadn't washed their hands after they used the restroom or licked their fingers or something just as nasty that she didn't want to think about. Watching the city lights, made her feel a bit better. After all how could something so pretty actually be so diseased? She was looking at Vegas, that was how.

She thought back on the rose. Germs couldn't live on the surface of ice. Within they could be saved for centuries...right? All well, if she could get Serena to make a box for her she would be highly pleased. Perhaps she could offer the woman a dance lesson or maybe do her laundry once or something. Mentally lifting a shoulder she would just have to talk to Serena about it. It was then that she realized Nate was talking to her and she had drifted off in her own little world.

He wanted the ship to become like a home. If all the people on it were as nice or as easy to get along with as Nate, Nikita and Cody....without the sex hopefully....she blushed at the thought of what happened yesterday. Nodding, Gwen smiled, "It will be once I get used to it I'm sure."

So she was just reading for his curiosity. Gwen had to admit she was now a bit curious as well. Probably would be even more so by the time she laid eyes on the man. She just hoped that she could actually read the man. Gwen had met with Rosemary that morning, early much to the woman's act of dismay. She had learned a little on control, but not much. One day could not give the girl all she would need to read such an older gentleman, surely. Would it?

As she stepped out with the help of Nate, she resolved herself to trying her best. After all, Nate was giving her a place to stay, with a doctor who might actually be able to help her. Glancing up at Nate's exclamation she smiled at Serena, giving the other woman a nod, "Hi."

As they entered the Bellagio, Gwen tried to take it all in. After all she'd only been in Hawaii really. She'd read and watched movies with other places, who hadn't? It was nothing like seeing them. Now Gwen was truly amazed when she laid eyes on a few actresses, a dancer she knew to be one of the top five in the country, and there were...lots of people. Taking a deep breath she let it out slowly and quietly. As they drew near to the older mutant, she gave him a radiant smile. As the man finished talking she softened her smile, giving him a small curtsy as she softly, but strongly told him her name, "Gwen Gregory, Mr. Sterling kidnapped me and thought I would make a nice prize." She gave Methuselah a small pout, winking at him as well. She hoped the man would take it all in stride and was ok with a light joke.

She almost fell into the hug with Nate and grinned at him. She took his arm. She gave a tinkling laugh at his exclamation. "I'm sure the Immortal will have his own selection of girls." She grinned leaning in front of him to smile at Gwen. "Hey. I don't think we've met yet. I'm Serena DeSoto. Codename Grease Monkey." She grinned at her once more before they entered the hotel. She knew they had a few more people on board, she could tell when she liftedit off the ground in Hawaii. This girl must be one of them.

GM loved this hotel and looked around in fascinated wonder. It was so classy and beautiful. And she loved the water show in the front. She was excited to be seeing the Immortal again, too. Not surprised that he had picked the Bellagio to buy a room in. He was a nice man, easy on the eyes and quite witty. She had enjoyed the time they'd spent with him the last time. She couldn't believe that it had been seven years already.

As they entered the penthouse suite, Serena broke a smile for Methuselah. He looked as handsome as ever, and as young. She wished that she could keep her youth the way that he could sometimes. She waited while he made Gwen's acquaintance and then moved to give him a hug. "It has been too long. This suit is gorgeous on you." She had an eye for fashion, and he looked striking in it.

She stepped back so that Nate could greet the Immortal as well. She looked around the penthouse, recognizing a few of the people there. She smiled and nodded when she caught their eyes, but didn't make a move to go speak with any of them. They were here on business. She accepted a glass of champagne as it was brought around on a tray and moved in closer to Nate, Gwen and the Immortal.

Nate let the Immortal greet Gwen and Serena first and was quite impressed with how one of his newest crewmembers handled herself. He knew that Serena would be excited to see Methuselah, they had been quite cozy those many years ago...of course, he had been quite cozy with Nate as well.

"If I kidnapped such a prize as Miss Gregory, I wouldn't be foolish enough to bring her before a big bad red maned wolf!", Nate teased, with a huge grin. After Serena hugged him, Nate took her place and gave him a big hug too...afterwards, straightening his tie, "She's right, you know, you're looking pretty hot tonight, old boy!", he winked, "What is it now...Justin?".

Nate was 25 now...he was 18 when he last met The Immortal; Nate, Serena and Viv had all been guests of his in Venice and he had been a gracious host. He had spent a day and a night with each of them, talking about their dreams, their loves, their hates and exploring their passions through the night. The Immortal was a collector of rare items, certainly, but he was also a collector of people and experiences...Nate knew that. The next morning, they had compared notes. Nate and Vivvy had experienced what they both admitted was the 'best night of sex' in their young lives. Serena, on the other hand, had a wonderful evening of discussing new inventions and drawing blueprints of said inventions, which when she showed them to the others, made it sound as good as their sex.

In a smooth rich voice, the one once called Methuselah spoke warmly in Nate's ear, "The last time I saw you, you were a sexy 18 year old teenager, Nathaniel. Lanky, headstrong...all hormones and limbs", he chuckled. "I see a more matured young man here now. You've filled out your musculature nicely and that face...so strong", his emerald green eyes twinkled with mischief, "Perhaps before your wonderful flying ship leaves, we can revisit old times", he looked at Serena, "My hopes are that you would enjoy a bit of nostalgia as well, my dear".

Brushing back his long red hair, The Immortal let his eyes roam over Gwyn's shapely form and he smiled, thinking, Perhaps some new memories will be made by the crew of the King's Ransom.

Speaking low, Methuselah directed them, "Let's step into my study so we may quickly deal with business and leave only enjoyment for the remainder of the evening eh?".

"I'm Gwen, and I was given the code name Lady Hawk." She shrugged her shoulders with a smile at the other woman. "Oh! Nate made me an ice rose and he said that you could make me a box for it. Would you mind? I can give you a dance lesson or clean something of yours." Another smile crossed her features, this one hopeful with eyes wide and trained on Serena as best as she could manage.

The Immortal did look rather impressive. Gwen was reminded once again of how she looked. No matter how Nate had made her feel with what he said. She felt, odd in the midst of all these people. Here there were people with money, people who would look down their noses at her if they had ever come to the bar she had worked at. Most of them probably wouldn’t have bothered with a tip or a thank you either.

That didn't matter now. That had been a different life. Suddenly it seemed like years ago that she had been working her two jobs in Hawaii. She was Gwen, her home was on the King's Ransom and she was here because....why had she been brought along? Now the reason wasn't quite so obvious now that Serena was here. Licking the inside of her lips to not mess up her gloss, but to still have that comforting move, she kept her face in that pleasant look. It didn’t matter, she was out and about and she was having fun.

She just hoped that the wolf only came out in closed off quarters and she wouldn’t be closed off with it.

As there seemed to be way more history between the three than Gwen had thought, she took a small step back. She didn’t want to intrude on such private matters. Then she was looked over like lunch. Oh she wasn't blind. Heat rose into her cheeks and she dropped her gaze, watching her hands as she folded them in front of her. Gwen slowly looked up under her lashes to see if he was still looking at her in such a way, plus to see if the intimate moment had passed.

As the trio moved to where Methuselah led, she glanced at people. Giving small smiles as she passed, a small nod or two, then they were in the study. Quite a study. She let her eyes roam, focusing in on some of the titles of the books. She grinned, seeing fascinating collector edition tomes, worth hundreds if not thousands if she remembered correctly. Gwen had a tendency to watch Antiquing shows only because Keri had been addicted to them. The man had to have more money than Gwen had ever dreamed of having. She wanted to reach out and touch some of the books, even made a step towards a bookcase, before stilling. Glancing at Nate and Serena she moved back closer with them, not wanting to be rude.

When it seemed alright to speak, Gwen tentatively spoke, "You seem to have very nice taste, sir." She gave him another smile, "I know someone who would just die to be in here with these." She pointed to one of the book cases, and lifted a shoulder. She then looked to Nate and Serena, wondering what was to happen next. She wondered briefly if she should've stayed outside. Her eyes widened as she thought that might have been the case and she raised her brows at Nate.

Then again, he couldn't read minds. Mentally rolling her eyes at herself she shifted to a more relaxed standing pose. Her eyes drifted to Methuselah, calming her mind, stilling her own thoughts. She began slowly concentrating on his thoughts, trying to slowly break herself into such practices. What better person to practice on than him? Plus she really wanted to know how old he was.

"Nice to meet you." She quipped to Gwen. "I'm sure I could work something out. And don't worry about paying me back. I usually keep a pretty clean house, but I wouldn't mind learning a new dance or two." She grinned at her. Serena was in a good mood. She was going to meet the Immortal again and she was off the ship. Life didn't get any better.

Serena remembered that night seven years ago vividly. She hadn't been interested in the sensuality that the Immoral oozed. She was interested in who he was and in their shared interests. She had been amazed with some of his ideas, and how simply they would work in such a complex machine. He had helped her come up with the canisters that held the lightning when they harvested it. He had also helped her come up with a few additions to the ship. Sometimes Serena needed an outside mind to help her muddle through her own jumble of thoughts.

As Methuselah led them into the study, Monkey stood near Gwen. She didn't want her to feel overwhelmed or lost. And it was easy to do in a place as unexpected as this. She even leaned down to whisper to her. "You're allowed to browse." She smiled and motioned to the bookcases that Gwen seemed so interested in.

She stood a little straighter as the Immortal set his eyes on the trio once more. She knew that he was going to drive a hard bargain with Nate, but she also knew that he was going to pay them a hefty sum for the diamond in Nate's posession. She found a comfortable chair and waited for the bargaining to begin.

Once the study door was closed and secured, Nate placed the elegant Prada bag he was carrying onto the table in the center of the room and opened it. He borrowed a Tiffany gooseneck lamp from one of the desks in the room and placed it by the bag, turning it on before he put his hand inside to pull out the merchandise. He smiled at the Immortal and winked in a playful manner, “Feast your eyes on this, Justin! At 541.17 carats The African Queen Diamond surpasses the Great Star of Africa at 530.2 carats and is only topped by the Golden Jubilee Diamond at 545.67 carats, making it the second largest diamond in the world. All were discovered at Premier Mine. The Queen is oval-cut and a white diamond, internally and externally flawless in color. The diamond was previously owned by Garritt De Vries, owner of Diamond mines, hotels, casinos, night clubs, health spas, porn magazines, porn studios, etc. The man is disgustingly rich and got that way on the misery of others. In my humble opinion, he doesn’t deserve such beauty”. Nate tilted the diamond into the light of the lamp so that it cast a multitude of rainbow-colored beams onto his face.

The Immortal grinned, “Two beauties and which is more rare”, he clasped his hand to his heart dramatically.

Nate blushed and laughed at being discovered being obvious.

The mutant who was now called ‘Justin Thyme’ gave the captain a pat on the back and held his hand out, “May I, Nathaniel?”.

Nate placed the diamond in his hand. It truly was a handful and awe inspiring.

The Immortal held the diamond high in the air and turned facing each side of the room with it…he smiled.

“It’s magnificent! I want it!”, he exclaimed, “Name your price, Nathaniel”.

Okay…Nate certainly wasn’t ready for that. He wasn’t an expert on diamonds and certainly not on what to ask for the second largest diamond in the world.
He moved close to Justin and spoke low, “Your offer is generous, Justin, but I’m not a greedy man. I’m also no expert on diamonds…we both know my opening speech was all smoke and mirrors”, he grinned, “I trust you implicitly. Whatever you think is a fair price to give us for the diamond, we will gratefully accept”. Standing close to The Immortal, Nate smelled that scent he wore…oranges, some rich spice, frankincense and something else he couldn’t identify…it all combined to be a bit intoxicating.

Gwen nodded with a smile. She would be happy to teach anyone anything she was able to teach them. It wasn't much, Gwen wasn't a very educated woman, but she could try. She began thinking of the dances that would show off Serena the most. Her mind trying to keep away from the obvious ones to the more subtle and rare. Her students had always liked the fast paced dances the best. Gwen always knew why, and she hadn't had much of a problem with it, at least they showed some kind of interest somewhere.

As she was told that she could browse, Gwen just walked about. Keeping her hands to herself she idly listened to the other three. Finding a seat in one of the windows she settled down, watching everything going on below. She wouldn't ever touch the books, they were more precious than what her poor fingers should ever be allowed the feel of.

Keeping her eyes off the diamond was easy, she just kept looking down through the window. After all she had made the mistake of opening her mouth once already. Again she wondered why she was even here. Glancing up she wondered on what the price would be, and when they would be able to leave the study. Serena and Nate seemed really comfortable with the immortal. She could take Serena's little ship back to King's and call it a night so they could have their fun. They deserved it after all. Being the captain and being the only one who could control the ship had to take a toll.

Serena watched Nate as he placed the bag with the diamond in it on the table. She watched the Immortal, too. He was a great guy, but he wasn't about to give them more than he thought it was worth. And the show Nate put on was quite funny, seeing as how he probably had no idea how much it was worth.

She watched the diamond exchange hands and hoped to God that no one dropped it. Heaven forbid it end up with a flaw. Serena knew jewelry, and she had a rough estimate of how much she thought it was worth, but she wasn't sure exactly. She was sorry that Vivvy was missing out on this. She was a great haggler and she knew that she was going to regret not seeing the Immortal. But, it was the price she paid for being such a goody two-shoes.

She grinned her amusement when the Immortal asked Nate to name his price. Then chuckled softly when Nate admitted that he didn't know its worth. She shook her head lightly and turned her attention to Gwen. She seemed uncomfortable and strangely aloof. As if she didn't want to be there, or that she would rather be somewhere else entirely. That was really too bad.

Serena herself, unlike Gwen appeared to be, was a social creature. She craved interaction with others. Relished it. And she had a difficult time understanding those who didn't. Like Vivvy. Well, Serena wasn't going to push the girl into being social. Not if she didn't want to. So she turned back and watched the Immortal once more, catching a whiff of his familiar scent. She smiled again, remembering.

As the Immortal looked over the African Queen Diamond, Nate looked over his two mutant princesses, both so lovely in their evening dresses. He smiled to himself as he caught their host distracted by the ladies, as well. Nate wasn’t sure how old The Immortal was, but the years had only strengthened his libido; looking over to Nate, Methuselah, being caught, gave him a smile and a wink.

Strolling over towards the ladies, Nate teasingly whispered, “Either of you ladies fancy being a kept woman? From the look on our host’s face, I dare say he may offer to buy the diamond only if I throw in one of you to sweeten the pot”.

Leaning close to Gwen’s ear, the tall young captain whispered, “Have you tried to read his mind yet, Luv? Don’t cause yourself any pain, but I’d be awfully interested in what the gent thinks about”.

Sliding up next to Serena, his old pal, Nate teased, “Monkey, you are so cruel. Wearing a dress like that…with a body like that…and the morals of Mother Theresa”, he kissed her on the tip of the ear, “…give The Immortal blue balls and he might not invite us to anymore fabulous parties”.

Walking back over to their host, Mr. Justin Thyme, Nate patted him on the back and asked, “Well, Justin, what do you think?”.

The Immortal brushed back his long red hair and smiled at each in the room, “I think that you know more about diamonds than you pretend, my friend. This large diamond is indeed internally and externally flawless in color and the cut is exquisite…it is perfection”, he held it up so the light caused tiny rainbow colored beams to dance across his face, “…I think that I can not pay you it’s true worth, but I offer you this…a million per representative of the King’s Ransom here tonight. Three million for the African Queen Diamond, Nathaniel. Is that acceptable?”.

Nate had to steady himself, by leaning against a desk…he didn’t even expect one million, let alone three. To break the tension he was feeling, he took a deep breath and quipped, “Y’know, Justin, something told me I should have brought a lot more people”. Steadying himself then, he walked forward and shook The Immortal’s hand, “Too right three million is acceptable, mate!”.

Once they settled all the exchanges, the four, stepped back out into the party full of all the beautiful people.

Edwin Fairchild had been dispatched from his main office in London to the Capital Hill office a few days prior to the diamond heist. The head inspector wanted Edwin's thoughts, ideas and so forth on the mutant population. He also wanted information on the King's Ransom. Late that night a call woke Edwin from a sound sleep. Apparently there had been a diamond heist, a diamond of epic proportions had been stolen by mutants. Edwin smirked as he dressed, and quickly headed to the main office.

They questioned Edwin, asking where he thought the King's Ransom would go, since apparently he was the resident expert on the ship. He smirked, stating a simple Los Angeles if he had the pattern correct. There were more meetings, images of new crew members, and a phone interview with De Vries himself. Edwin found it highly amusing when De Vries spoke of a golden retriever puppy.

Then as the American HILE officers began to gather their things up to load, and move out to LA, Edwin pulled the head inspector aside. He told him that he was going out to Las Vegas, he'd had some business there not too long ago with the HILE office back a few months ago. They'd apparently been having some mutant issues at the casino's and of course, Edwin had offered his services since he'd been in the states. Couldn't have those 'terrible beings' cheating out the big wigs now could they? The head inspector clapped Edwin on the back, telling him to go on and do what he needed to.

Edwin thanked him, taking the next flight out to the city of sin. On the flight there, he pulled out his laptop, booking a room at the Bellagio, and then going through the newest crew member of the King's Ransom file. A young boy, they didn't really know much about him other than his power. Edwin smirked, he was unregistered which was good for him. He'd have to work on the photo, change it somehow when he got a chance. Oh he'd done it before, and he'd do it again. He also made a mental note to grab the kid a fake ID to pass off to Nate when he caught up with the crew in Las Vegas. There was a party going on tonight and Edwin wasn't going to miss it for the world.

Once arriving in Las Vegas around nine a.m., he did stop by the HILE office there, speaking with the men briefly about their 'problem'. That was finally settled around two o'clock. The Brit made his way back to the Bellagio, setting up a wake-up call for seven p.m. and also a tux rental that would be delivered to his room. He hadn't brought one with him, and this party called for that extra something. Stripping down to his boxers, he crawled into the soft bed and slept until the phone rang. Getting up he showered, dressed in the robe that was provided and accepted his tux as it was delivered. He dressed, and then tamed his curls.

Wouldn't do to look a mess at one of Methuselah's parties.

He made his way up there, fashionably late of course, but early enough to see the host, Nate, Serena, and a young lady he didn't know enter Methuselah's study. Taking a glass of champagne off a tray, he walked around the party. Talking to those he knew, those he'd helped escape from some of the facilities as he waited on the four to exit. Finally when they did, Edwin excused himself from his present company and made his way over to them.

"Brilliant party," His eyes narrowed a degree as he looked at Methuselah, "Justin. You always throw the best parties." He tsked, shaking his head and held his glass up in a salute to Nate. "You Nathanial, are now the most wanted mutant alive. You have no idea what sort of hoops I had to jump through to make the chaps on Capital Hill bloody believe that your lot had gone to Los Angeles." He smirked, taking another sip of his champagne. "Serena, enchanting as always." He inclined his head to her, then looked at Gwen. "I believe we haven't met." He held out his hand to her, "I am Edwin Fairchild, pleasure to meet you."

As the show and dance continued, Gwen couldn't help but smile a little at it all. It was a far cry from haggling prices over fruit and vegetables in the market. She had haggled for price only because she knew marketers jacked up the price for the tourists. She wondered if Nate would have done the same thing as a lowly marketer instead of a captain if the tides had been turned on his fate. Shaking her head lightly Gwen kept her mind to herself, pushing thoughts aside as she just listened to those in the room.

When Nate came over to her she raised a brow. As his words sank in her mouth dropped open into a slight 'O' and her cheeks reddened slightly. Blinking once, then again, she made a small sound like a whimper as she shot a glance at the man who called himself Justin. "I um...nothing yet." Then the realization hit that Nate had to be joking. Surely he was joking.

As he walked back to deal with the oldest in the room, Gwen closed her mouth with a light click of her teeth. She watched the two, her eyes going wide with the price. She was going to be sold! Gwen was glad she was sitting. The room seemed buzz a little before her smarts kicked in. She was her own person, Nate wouldn't do that. Then again she had gotten on a ship with him only knowing...a few things about him. She had tried to forget everything she had read in his mind because...well that was just private.

Jerking up to standing as the others started to leave she followed them. Now she decided to keep a bit closer to Serena than Nate. Gwen wasn't so sure anymore about him. Not that she thought Nate a bad person, but...he seemed to be more of an opportunist now than anything else. If she were a betting woman, she would bet that if Nate could get a good price, more than he expected for her, he'd take it. Then again...the mind that she had read before hadn't ever held such thoughts as was a bit more...charismatic.

Rubbing the crease that had started in the middle of her forehead, Gwen rounded her brain to the task at hand. Nate wanted to know things about Justin, Methuselah, the so called immortal one. Jumping a little her eyes became large again as someone else popped up. She gave a small smile, taking his hand and giving it a firm shake, "Gwen Gregory. Um, likewise I think. I mean! It's a pleasure to meet you. Sorry, I'm nervous, I didn't mean it that way. I'm always glad to meet new guys, um, people in general, not just guys." With the last she gave a glance at Methuselah and then Nate.

She looked up at the ceiling for a moment, begging herself to calm down and for her cheeks to not be so hot. Gwen needed to work, she could multi-task. Smiling at the Immortal she studied him for a moment, concentrating on him again and trying not to be obvious about such. She began looking away, looking at other people, but never focusing on them, her mind was on Justin's or Methuselah's, whatever he wanted to be called.

Raising a brow as she saw a mental image of beautiful gardens and exotic people come from him. The word Babylon flitted across her mind. Great, he was at least that old. She'd have to look Babylon up. Fleeting images of grand bases of some buildings being erected were brought to her mind. The pyramids perhaps, or something like them. He could be thinking of the pyramid in Las Vegas though, or had watched a National Geographic special for all she knew really. Biting her bottom lip she backed off for a moment. A dull ache had started back behind her eyes and radiated down to the back of her skull.

"You can throw me in." She glanced at Gwen and saw the look of horror on her face. She wanted to laugh, but she refrained. "I'm not sure Gwen would appreciate being sold. Even to the Immortal. "Would you prefer I dress like Mother Theresa?" She teased him right back.

She heard the offered price and knew the diamond was worth a little more than that. But, it had to be worth the Immortal's while. He was going to be buying stolen goods. Serena smiled and stood up as the transaction was completed and they headed back out to the party. The diamond was stashed in some secret place known only to the Immortal.

She stepped back into the party, noting that Gwen kept closer to her now. She smiled at her, understanding that she didn't quite get Nate's humor just yet. She was brought up short as Edwin approached. She inclined her head back to him. "Edwin." She smiled at him. "How's the HILE these days?"

She turned as Edwin introduced himself to Gwen and looked at the rest of the crowd. There were plenty of people to mingle with, but she wasn't too interested in them. She sidled up to the Immortal and nudged him with her elbow. "Any suggestions as to how to put a small freezer showcase together?"

Nate left the study practically walking on air; he realized that the African Queen Diamond was probably worth twice what he got for it, but it was stolen property and one rarely got such a price for stolen, high profile merchandise. A tray of champagne was offered and Nate gladly took one and saluted each of his companions before taking a nice long sip. Turning towards The Immortal, the young captain's eyebrow's shot up, "Justin! Is my palate teasing me or is this Heavenly ambrosia tickling my throat Perrier-Jouet 2000 Belle Epoque?", he grinned and lowered his voice to a whisper, "Expensive even for you, Luv...how decadent".

Hearing a familiar voice he turned and smiled a brilliant white smile...it was Edwin, his dear old childhood friend, Edwin. "Edwin, you bloody HILE bastard!", Nate greeted him with a grin, "You're looking dapper in your tux, mate", he winked, "downright edible even".

The Immortal clinked his champagne glass against Nates and interjected, "I already offered to eat him and he politely declined", he paused and sighed, "It's not fair to be asexual and look that good".

When Serena was greeting Edwin, Nate chimed in, "Careful with those hands, old chum. This one wants to be Mother Theresa".

Letting his eyes wander over to Gwen, Nate saw her bite her lower lip and, so, wandered over to speak to her. He whispered, "Gwen...honey, are you okay?", he looked concerened, "Look, I want you to forget trying to read Justin's mind, okay? I was wrong to ask you to do that...I wasn't thinking about the headaches you might get. I'm sorry".

Gathering the group all back together, Nate asked, "Edwin, are you going to grace us with a visit? Basil would be thrilled...", he elbowed him, "...as would I", leaning back he threw an arm around The Immortal's shoulder, "Justin, you must come too! Even if for a night or two. We'll give you a wonderful view of the stars and the city".

Edwin’s lips twitched up into a highly amused smile at the young woman, “Ah, so you’re new to the Ransom then? You don’t have a file with the HILE but give it enough time around this lot and you will.” He teased as he shook Gwen’s hand and gave her a playful wink. Somewhere in the back of his mind he meant it though.

Slipping his hand from Gwen’s he smiled softly over at Serena. “Still have their heads up their butts I’m afraid, love. Such a terrible waste of taxpayer dollars if you ask me. They’re in Los Angeles, doing a full out search for you lot. If I were you I’d keep a low profile while in Vegas, and leave the States for a while.” He sighed, looking over Nathanial. “Then again, knowing you, you’ll stay here just to rile up the wasp nest a little more won’t you?”

His brow rose slightly, and he scoffed as if offended. “I’ll have you know that I am not a bastard. We’ve been over this a thousand times, Nathanial.” He smirked, giving the other a wink and rolled his eyes. “Thank you, you look dashing yourself, Nathanial.”

He chuckled softly at the comments about his lack of a sex life. He waved a hand, “Oh please, I give you one taste of what I have to offer and you two would be following me around like puppies. Can’t have none of that now can I? Can’t keep you lot safe that way either.” He rolled his eyes, and then slid his dark gaze over to Serena. “That bad is it?” He smirked, teasing her with a wink.

Bringing the glass of champagne back up to his lips he took a sip, watching the interaction between the rest of them. He licked his lips, grunting softly at the elbow to his side, looking over and raising a brow at Nate. “Yes, of course. I’m down here for a while. I’ve missed Basil.” He smiled as he thought of his brother, “I’m sure you would, you look like you’ve got a big secret that you need to tell me.” He smiled over at his friend, and shrugged a shoulder. “I’ll be on the ship tomorrow evening at some point. I daresay the little job you did kept me up all night long.” He pouted slightly over at Nate, and let out a dramatic sigh. “I’ve barely gotten any rest, and you know how I get when I don’t get enough sleep.”

Shaking her head, Gwen had to agree with Selena. "No, I like being...my own person?" She smiled shyly and lifted a shoulder, "No offense." She added as an afterthought when she laid her eyes on the Immortal one again.

Gwen looked confused for a moment, "Oh, yeah...I guess I will have one won't I?" Sighing she shook her head, "I don't want one." Smiling she shuddered, "I don't think I've ever really been in trouble, other than in school, and I was wrongly accused." Of course she hadn't been wrongly accused, Keri had actually talked her into stealing the books in fifth grade. It has also been Keri who had started the fight with the bully Heather in eighth grade.

As the four talked, Gwen kept up. Her eyes going a bit wide at Edwin being asexual and the Immortal wanting to eat him. That was interesting and no. She wouldn't think on that. No. That was just...wrong. Shaking her head she looked up at the ceiling, trying not to let her imagination run away with her. What the Immortal had been thinking about doing to Edwin slipped into her mind. Her brows rose, eyes growing wide, her mouth dropping open a little again as she felt her face heat up even more. No man should do that to another.

Jumping a little when Nate came over to her she gave a small smile. "I...got a little bit and I'm alright. Just, um, I would rather him not think on what he wants to do to Edwin." She put a hand to her forehead, feeling the heat on her skin and she laughed sheepishly. Eying the Immortal for a moment, she then smiled at Nate, "I'll tell you later I guess? Just so he won't overhear."

Canting her head to the side she listened to all of them. "Basil? There's so many on the ship." She smiled, wondering if she was ever going to meet everyone that was on the ship. Then again, she shouldn't want to meet everyone. She had heard some things about some of the people on there that she didn't think she would like too well.

Giggling she listened to their banter, teasing. It was as if they were a family. She still felt a little left out. Still felt as if she shouldn't be there and that she was intruding. She supposed that she would feel that way until she was on the ship for a while longer. Then she'd be like family and know them well enough to keep up with the banter, maybe even tease them herself.

Serena and the Immortal had a little chat about how she could put together a display case for the ice rose Nate had given to Gwen. He gave her some good ideas and she planned to go back to the ship and put them to use. The night was getting late and she was getting tired. She nudged Nate and told him she wanted to go back. She gathered up her things and headed for the door.

She smiled at Justin before she stepped out. She would be back the next day to go over some more plans with him. She waited for the others to get their things together. She didn't want to leave alone. Unless they wanted to be left. But she knew that Nate was worried about Pavla. And she didn't think Gwen was quite ready to be left in the clutches of the Diamond Buyer.

She stifled a yawn with the back of her hand and walked out with the others as they filed in front of her back to the dinghy. She smiled. It had been a good night, and it had been fun getting to see and talk to the Immortal again. She nibbled her lip as she drove her dinghy back to the ship. She was exhausted. There had been so much excitement lately, and she had flown the massive ship from Hawaii.

She would need some serious nap time to recharge. She might have to let Justin know she wouldn't be around until the evening. She was sure he wasn't going to mind. She waved to the others as she docked the hover craft and headed up the plank and down the hall to her cabin across the hall from Nate's.

She stripped out of her clothes and practically fell into her bed. She was almost instantly asleep.
