Wyatt had flown to Las Vegas after receiving the call from his mother about his dad. He was ashamed of what he had said to his father the last time they spoke, and there was no taking it back now. He was sick at heart, distraught and destroyed. As he stood by the grave, Kitty on his shoulder, he bowed his head, listening to the words of the sermon said over the casket. Tears leaked down his cheeks as his mother patted his back. He wanted to shake her off, but he couldn't bring himself to be cruel to her. Not after what had happened the last time he'd been cruel to a parent.
Once the service was over, he leaned down and kissed his mother's cheek. He had every intention of seeing her again. He just couldn't handle the condolences that were going to be offered if given the chance. "I'll be back later, Mother." He managed to say in a husky whisper. Ducking out of the crowd gathered, unbelievably, around the grave site, Wyatt made his escape.
He hailed a cab outside the cemetery and took it to the strip. He could have easily flown, but in a city this crowded, it would have been akin to suicide. He would have had any number of witnesses and would probably not have been able to get into a casino without being mobbed. As it was, the cabbie had given him a rather odd look because of the falcon sitting docilely on his shoulder. He paid the man and got out in front of the Tropicana. All he wanted to do now was forget.
He sat down at the bar in the Celebration Lounge and looked so forlorn that the bartender didn't even bother asking for ID. Wyatt looked old enough, but just barely, and he looked like he needed a drink. He poured the kid a drink and slid it in front of him. Wyatt managed a smile and took a drink, downing it all in a rather short amount of time. Kitty warned him not to get too out of control, but he ignored her. About the time he finished the drink, a guy sitting a few stools away started making "polly" jokes about Kitty. When he threw a nut at her, Wyatt snapped.
He pushed roughly away from the bar, and accidentally phased through his barstool. He clenched his teeth together to keep himself under control. Looking around he wondered just who had seen his legs pass through the chair as if he were a ghost. It wasn't worth sticking around to find out. He threw some cash on the bar for the drink he'd had and left quickly.
He made his way across the street to the Excalibur Hotel and Casino. He moved through it, avoiding people until he found himself in front of a place called Dick's Last Resort. Wyatt felt like it was his last resort before he put a gun to his head, so he went inside. Kitty nipped at his ear, but he again ignored her and sat down at the bar. It was loud and obnoxious in there, so he found himself a seat in a corner booth.
When the waitress came over, he ordered two scotches and dropped his head into his hands as she walked away to fill his request.
