SUMMARY: Brendan walks Dawn to her door after hanging out for his birthday. He goes in for a kiss and she gets too flustered.
Brendan. After celebrating his birthday well after midnight, Brendan Phillips was walking Dawn Mellings back to her building in their complex. His hands were buried in his pockets as he walked beside her across the parking lot. He had just finished laughing, it dying down after a joke. He paused for a moment before speaking back up. "Thanks for coming out tonight. Even if it was short notice," since Brendan only posted about it that day. It meant a smaller crowd and eventually it was just the two of them. He walked her to her door.
Dawn. Dawn had had a good time tonight. She wasn't usually one for doing the whole out on the town thing at all, but she wasn't about to not go out for Brendan's birthday. She might not have spent the night drinking, but it was still a nice night. "It was my pleasure. It was a great night. And I couldn't really miss out celebrating your birthday." She smiled up to him as they walked, pleased with how the night went.
Brendan. "We should really start hanging out more, since it's our last year and all," he replied. He had had a few drinks over the course of the night. He was nowhere drunk but he was pretty relaxed. They hadn't really had the chance to hang out all that often since getting back to school (except for maybe a couple times) since their time in Africa.
Dawn. "Oh yes," she replied, still smiling. "I can't believe how fast it's going already. it only seems like yesterday that we were in Africa. But September is rapidly drawing to a close." Dawn realised she was talking a lot there, so she subsided with a smile.
Brendan. "Then Halloween, Christmas, and suddenly graduation," he chuckled. "I guess summer can't last forever, huh? It goes by faster every year," he said as they approached her door. He turned to face her.
Dawn. "Exactly. I can't believe people are planning their Halloween costumes already." She shook her head, glancing up to him. "I'm convinced one day I'll wake up and have just slept through the entire summer. Three months, just gone in a blink."
Brendan. "Yeah," he grinned, nodding toward her door. "I guess it's kinda, uh, late." He bit the inside of his bottom lip, a nervous habit. An idea had crept into his mind the last time they hung out together -- you know, when she came over and made baked goods and Samson didn't (really) bark at her. Maybe he was feeling nostalgic but Africa was fun and hanging out with her was fun and who knew where they would be last year.
Dawn. "Oh, yes." She blushed a little, and then started fumbling for her keys. How awful of her, making him stand out here on her doorstep. "I had such a great time tonight. I really should get out more."
Brendan. He watched her fumble for her keys. He can't just... leave. He wanted to make sure she got into her apartment okay. Brendan nodded, watching her for a second before leaning in for a kiss even if she was preoccupied with finding her keys.
Dawn. Dawn looked up just in time to see him leaning in, and she.. sort of panicked. She blushed and froze and dropped her keys, and ducked down to pick them up. That was really smooth there Dawn. Very smooth. She blushed again, glancing down.
Brendan. He turned his head, looking down at her dropped keys. He ran a hand through his hair. "Look, Dawn..." He crouched down when she was down for her keys.
Dawn. Dawn was still bright red, but she did glance up to look at Brendan when he spoke. "Yes Brendan?" She spoke softly, barely above a whisper. This was getting so awkward! And she had no idea what to do here
Brendan. She was cute when she blushed. It made him a little more bold. "Do you want to go out sometime? I mean, when you're free," he matched her low tone.
Dawn. Considering she's still bushing, it was probably a good thing he found it so charming. "Oh... I don't... oh I couldn't." She glanced away, tucking a lock of hair behind her ear. To say Dawn didn't date was really... sort of an understatement.
Brendan. He tried not to take that as rejection, and considering how flustered she looked, it made him hopeful. "You couldn't?" Is college keeping her that wrapped up?
Dawn. "Oh, well, it's just..." Dawn was feeling very flustered. She fiddled with her keys, not wanting to go in quite yet, but not quite sure what to say. "Oh, well. Maybe. Some day."
Brendan. "Some day," he repeated, a grin starting to grow on his face. "When? Tomorrow?" Okay, he was being facetious. He just wanted to see her.
Dawn. He was, he was. Dawn blushed again, glancing away over his shoulder. "Oh no..." She glanced back at him. "I mean. Well. Yes. Lunch? I could make us something..." That wasn't exactly a date, right? Not quite. Just two friends sharing lunch... with intentions.
Brendan. There was a full-blown grin on his face. "Alright. Lunch, tomorrow. I'll be back," he took a few steps backward from her door.
Dawn. Dawn couldn't help but grin a little as well, ducking her head as she turned to unlock her door. "Great." As she fumbles with her keys. "Tomorrow then." She finally sorted it out, unlocking her door before glancing back to him. "Good night," she said softly, with a shy but pleased smile on her face. Oh lord.
