Malfoy had funny hair. Harry didn't know how he'd never noticed this before, but it was true. Malfoy really had funny hair. It wasn't the colour – granted, the silvery blond looked like it wasn't from this planet, but he'd seen Malfoy's family and if they didn't collectively dye their hair, then the colour was indeed natural. It wasn't even that Malfoy had started to show ever so slightly receding hairlines. Actually, those were strangely adorable. Not that Harry would ever admit that. No, Malfoy's hair was weird because it curled a little in the back and stuck up with a weird whirl. Harry was sure Malfoy hadn't noticed, because he'd seen the man in front of a mirror and how he groomed himself. If Malfoy had seen the curls he would have cut them off or would have tried to smooth them. And that would be such a pity.
A cough from one of the other Aurors reminded Harry that he should get back to work – there were stacks of paper lying in front of him, waiting to be read, corrected and signed. If anyone had told him how much red tape there was involved with the Auror work, he might have opted for a different kind of job. Today doing paper work seemed even more unappealing, seeing as Malfoy was sitting in front of him and the hair in Malfoy's neck was curled.
Without even realising it, Harry reached out and touched Malfoy's curls. They were soft, nearly silky.
"What the –" Malfoy whirled around and batted Harry's hand away. "Potter! Don't you have better things to do than groping me?!"
A blush spread over Harry's cheeks and he ducked his head, not really knowing what to say while his colleagues snickered. Malfoy turned around again and went back to work. Harry picked up his quill, took a deep breath and tried to do the same.
He lasted for five minutes then he was back at staring at Malfoy. Of course it was only then that he thought of good comebacks, jokes and sentences that would have impressed Malfoy. Harry shook his head at himself, he really needed to be wittier. But maybe…
Harry grabbed a piece of paper and wrote: I do have better things to do… but none are as much fun. How about dinner?
Then he let the paper sail over to Malfoy. And waited. Malfoy barely moved at all and Harry was ready to give up on the whole thing, when the paper came back with Malfoy's scrawl on it.
Will there be more groping?
At first Harry wasn't quite sure how to reply, but after taking another look at Malfoy's curl he decided to go with the truth. Yes.
The paper sailed off again and came back quickly this time. His heart beating wildly, Harry read Malfoy's reply. Good. My place at eight. Harry grinned.
