Who: Andrea (Narrative) Where: Hers and Aidrian's apartment. When: 11:24 pm, July 15, 2008 What: A phone conversation; Status: Complete Warnings: Pretty depressing.
Brown hair swirled about her shoulders as she danced about hers and Aidrian's apartment, the fox moving about her feet easily without getting stepped on. She smiled down at him and then her phone started to ring. Frowning a little bit, she flipped it open and shut her I-pod off as she answered.
"Hello?" Her voice sounded confused, since her dad rarely called her as of late unless it was something to start trouble. So the fact that he might be calling just to chat was something that made her curious. A soft yip came from somewhere around her feet and she bent down to lift Kamal up and let him shift a little bit as she held her phone between her head and her shoulder.
"Andrea." Came the cool reply, his voice colder than ice. Uh-oh, this was going to be one of those conversations that left her an emotional wreck, wasn't it? "Are you still with that...hooligan?"
Of course he was trying to break her and Aidrian up again. It was no shocker there, but the fact was, she was getting tired of it. Her eyes looked down to Kamal for a moment as he yipped again, nuzzling his head against her face. She giggled and then calmed down as her father asked her what she was giggling about, if Aidrian was touching her while she was on the phone.
"Yes I'm still with Aidrian. No, he's not touching me. He is taking a walk with his brother, I'm just looking after our kitten." There, that was the safest thing to call Kamal since her dad would likely flip out if he knew she was holding a fox. And the fact that her and Aidrian had a 'pet' fox. He wasn't exactly a pet, more like hers and Aidrian's kid if one thought about it.
"That boy is going to destroy you, Andi. Just like every other male in your life apart from those you're related to, he's going to destroy you and leave you a broken mess that I'm going to have to pick up. And you know what? I'm not going to. I'm flat out going to tell you 'I told you so'."
Sighing, she moved over to sit down on the couch and when she did, Kamal settled down into her lap. Her fingers idly stroked orange-ish-red fur and she shook her head.
"You don't know him, you never gave him the chance. You don't know me anymore either."
A brief pause in the conversation and a low growl emitted. "You're damn right I don't know who you are! I don't even think I want to know who you are anymore!"
Closing her eyes against that, the sting from that alone was very obvious with her sharp intake of breath. "Dad, seriously, cut it out. I couldn't stay a soldier forever, the world doesn't work like that and it's not all black and white. I love Aidrian, I love him and if you have a problem with that...then I guess there's no sense in you being in my life anymore, is there?"
"You're right, Andrea. There is no point in my being in your life anymore, you obviously don't need me and you obviously don't want me around. So I'm not going to be. I'm just very disappointed that my daughter became a little slut.."
Before she could respond to that, however, he hung up the phone and she was talking to dead air. She stared at it for a few minutes and then shut it, setting it down as she curled up on the couch. Kamal shifted and tucked himself underneath her arms as the tears started to slide down her face. She couldn't believe her father had actually said that about her; she wasn't a slut. She was still the same person she'd always been with a few differences. She had Aidrian now, she had a real family now and he couldn't seem to accept that fact.
Glancing at her phone as it rang again, she sighed and answered it. It was her grandfather.
"Don't worry about what your dad said, Katherine. It's not important and you're not a slut." His voice was soft, soothing almost. God, she loved the sound of her grandfather's voice. He was always the one that took care of her.
"Thanks, grandpa." She murmured softly, closing her eyes. Jeremy St. James was the family patriarch, what he said went. However, her father tended to disobey that and the fact was, she was just happy to have her grandfather still alive. He truly was her sanity.
"No problem, Katherine. Just remember that you can love whoever you want to love, you can be with whoever you want to be with. It doesn't make you less than what you have ever been and that's my granddaughter. Your father just...he needs to adjust to the fact that you've grown up and that yes, you have changed. You're still my Katherine."
He'd always called her that, Katherine. It was like her grandfather's way of letting her know that she was indeed a female. It was rare that he ever called her by her full name unless she was in big trouble and even that, it'd always been very rare. Smiling as she wiped at her face, she nodded. "All right, grandpa. I love you."
"I love you too, Katherine. Now, go wash your face and take good care of yourself. I'm going to go have a long discussion with your father about him growing up. You're not your mother and you never will be like her. He is very...sore about that still, even after all of these years. Now, go take care of yourself, Katherine."
"Bye grandpa." She hung up the phone and settled her arms about Kamal again, just laying there for the time being until she stood up to go wash her face. The fox, of course, tagged along after her. She washed her face, then flipped her music back on. Her grandfather, as always, was right.
