It began with prosthetics...
Ways to repair humans physiological functions, augmented or replaced, by electronic or electromechanical components. By rewiring nerves, or flexing another muscle, one was able to control a bionic appendage that made it possible to live a normal life. That opened the floodgates to approving Stem Cell research, generic cells that can make copies of themselves, and eventually those geneticists learned ways to not only create organs.. but skin. Brain matter. Emotions.

Many people didn't think it was possible to create an artificial person, and have it perform human tasks as efficiently as someone trained all their life to do the same job. Sentient machines, Bionic Technology, and Human-like "robots" increasingly took on the less extravagant occupations of man. It was a concept that slowly made its way into the minds and lives of the world. Most notably, Japan where it flourished and was refined into a scientific art form. It was believed that one could make a unit think. And they did.

They even made them feel...
