A deadly infectious disease caused by mycobacteria has slowly been spreading itself across New York. You will begin to hear a lot of coughing out on the streets, in the store, in the mall, see a lot of people clearing their throats, and a lot of people itching. This infection most commonly attacks the lungs but can also affect the central nervous system, the lymphatic system, the circulatory system, the genitourinary system, bones, joints and even the skin. When the disease becomes active, 75% of the cases will affect breathing and the lungs. Symptoms will include chest pain, coughing up blood, and a productive, prolonged cough developing about a week after infection and lasting for an indefinite amount of time. Systemic symptoms include a high fever, chills, night sweats, appetite loss, sudden weight loss, pallor, and often a tendency to fatigue very easily. Depending on the individual, some cases may experience headache, altered mental status coupled with fever, photophobia (inability to tolerate bright light), phonophobia (inability to tolerate loud noises.) irritability, delirium, seizures, and very rarely - coma, and perhaps even death. Antibiotics will eventually be discovered to effectively treat this mysterious illness, but for now and the coming weeks, it's going to continue to spread as it has not yet been recognized as a public threat. At the moment it's viewed as 'that bug going around.' Full on evidense and acute symptoms will not appear until two weeks after initial infection. It is spread through aerosol. Speaking, coughing, sneezing, kissing, or even the spit you might step on. Whether your character is affected, and how acutely infected, is entirely up to you. AIA and humans can both be affected, though the symptoms are more vague in AIA. Any questions comment to this post. |
