Original: Bijou (Cobalt/Amber) [week 7, prompt 4]
Title: Common Stock Author: Laylah Rating: not worksafe Word Count: 200 Summary: The show goes the way it has to.
The show goes the way it has to. Amber's Casmilan bred and born, but his stock is common, and then to make matters worse he's been given the pearls. With Sapphire -- who had more grace than this brat, cool and composed like the northlands ice was in his heart as much as in his features -- that didn't always matter. They were both imperfect for the part, so they could fight for top. But Cobalt looks like one of the clients, like they want to believe they are -- younger, prouder, more handsome. The clients who don't want to see him come out on top keep it to themselves.
So it's not personal when Cobalt calls him names, just like it's not sincere when Amber simpers and grovels in return. Afterward, when the curtain's come down and Amber is wiping the come off his face, Cobalt says, "Pathetic."
Amber bristles. "What?"
"Them," Cobalt says, nodding at the curtain. "They're cowards. Worse than most of the bastards who come in here." He smiles disdainfully -- a bit like Sapphire after all. "Not one of them could best you himself."
"You'll get used to that," Amber says, but he lets himself smile all the same.
