Fullmetal Alchemist (Kimberly) [week 7, prompt 9]
Title: Meaningful
Author: Laylah
Rating: worksafe
Word Count: 200
Summary: His teachers in Dublith talked big about the University in Central, but a lot of it is the same crap as always, dead poets and battles from before he was born.
Classes are nearly as bad here as they ever were. Sure, his teachers in Dublith talked big about the University in Central, but a lot of it is the same crap as always, dead poets and battles from before he was born. Kimberly's had enough of that for a lifetime.
Some of it's better, though. There's the alchemy course he argued his way into -- it's supposed to be for advanced students, and he's never studied it formally before, but he managed to show off enough that the professor took him on. To fix his sloppy form, she said. The other students don't like him, but that's only fair.
And he's learning things. And in between classes, like now, nobody cares where he goes. Nobody minds if he takes the back stairs to the empty classroom on the top floor, climbs out the fire window and up to the roof to bask in the October sun.
Everyone looks so small, from up here. Like they're all elements circulating through the organism of the university itself. Kimberly imagines the campus pathways as a transmutation circle, wonders what it would do. Something impressive. Something explosive.
Now that would make his classmates' lives meaningful.
