Summary: Omi's got some bad news for Nagi.

The shop was silent, bereft of people. Even the normal noise that filtered in from outdoors was absent, leaving the place feeling more than empty. The whole world felt deserted, and the sensation was disconcerting indeed.

Omi trailed his fingers along the shop's counter, critical eyes examining every light that gleamed from metal findings and every shadow that hid under cracks. His hand reached out, catching up a framed photo resting just beside the cash register, and he stared down at it, his fingers touching each face. There was the redhead, tall and too-serious, not even smiling for the photo. And the brunette was beside him, whose rich brown hair fell into his eyes. He had the smile his coworker lacked, his expression open and cheerful. The blond just below him had a cigarette hanging from his lips, and even as Omi noticed it, he caught the whiff of old cigarette smoke lingering in the air. It was gone almost as soon as he noticed it.

But it was the last face that captivated him. That solemn, almost blank expression tugged at his heart. His smile faded into worry, and suddenly, the shop wasn't deserted any longer. "You wanted to see me?" came the quiet, inflectionless voice, and Omi looked up into storm-blue eyes. The boy tilted his head, padding forward to finger a rose petal.

"Nagi," Omi murmured, his voice muted as he watched the flowershop boy. "You look good," he finally offered lamely. "The upgrades really suited you."

"I'm glad," Nagi murmured, and Omi knew that he wasn't actually glad at all. Nagi couldn't feel happiness that way. But it was the expected response, and Nagi's timing was impeccable. Omi reached out, one hand resting on Nagi's arm and marvelling at the texture of his shirt.

"You won't be staying here," Omi said softly, stepping closer. "The investors think that you should have a more charming personality." His heart clenched as he saw faint emotion flicker in Nagi's eyes. "Don't worry," he added, his hand squeezing on Nagi's arm. "I'm not going to recode you. I've got a private project that I think you'd be perfect for. I'll shift you over to there."

"I see," Nagi murmured, staring at Omi for a long minute before moving to sit on the stool behind the counter. He folded his hands in front of him, resting them on the cool surface as he watched Omi. "What about Aya, Ken, and Yoji?"

"They can stay," Omi explained, wishing he'd loaded Nagi's room rather than the shop. "They're suited to this place. I'll modify their code so that you never existed, and do the same for you."

"NO!" Nagi burst out, his eyes going wide. Around them, the shop rattled. "I'll go, so don't take away my memories," he added hurriedly, his face dropping. "You don't need me to forget for your project, right?"

Omi blinked, his eyes softening as he watched Nagi's obvious distress at the thought. Skirting around the counter, Omi opened his arms to Nagi. It took the boy a few moments before he leaned into Omi's chest. "As I thought," Omi murmured against his ear, his fingers stroking over silky smooth black hair. "You're perfect for my private project." Noting Nagi's worried expression, Omi smiled at him. "Don't worry," he assured Nagi. "When I transfer your code, I'll keep it intact. I promise." He leaned in for a soft kiss before stepping back.

"Program end," he commanded firmly, blinking a bit as the flowershop faded to black. Taking off the headset was a careful thing, but once it was away from his neck, he could unplug the cord from the port in his neck. The headset freed, he settled it in his lap, then ejected the small disk labeled "Kitten House Flowers" and tucked it into his pocket. He already had an idea for the character who could replace his Nagi...
