At the end of the world, the stars went dark. Astronomers were baffled; never in recorded history had so many stars disappeared so quickly. Some thought it signaled the end of the world, some thought it was only just another part of the cycle of the universe, but for all their studies of the phenomenon, an answer always remained out of reach. And then the world's heroes started to disappear with them, across time, across space, from Krypton to Venus and everything in between. Then the villains. And then one by one regular people turned up missing as well. No farewell notes, no last goodbyes-- it was like the mystery of Roanoke only without even a single word carved into a tree as a clue to where they'd gone. Our story picks up in a new city, one like those you might remember and yet not, filled with a multitude of unmemorable bodies and now, of late, the disappeared. No-one knows why they're here, what the purpose of this all is, if there is any at all, or even where "here" is, but one thing they do know is they can't leave. Welcome to Metro City. |
