Hello.
Some may not recall me, and that's fine, but my name is Neville Longbottom. It may ring a bell, mostly because my parents, Aurors Frank and Alice Longbottom, fought in the first war. They were loved, and respected due to the quality of their character and the people who they served and fought for. They were then tortured into absolute madness by many of the individuals who now run this government. They were forced to live a fate far worse than death, being trapped in their own bodies, their own destroyed minds, no one really knowing if they are alive in there or not.
I'm not saying this to make anyone feel guilty. I understand that after so long, the reality that we now live in doesn't seem so bad. There's peace. There's prosperity. People have homes, families. The community has rebuilt itself and wealth has found its way back into the pockets of many. There are so many reasons to be happy, and content. But at what cost?
All I'm asking, is that if you remember my parents, and you remember me, and the terror and tyranny that we all fought against not only during the first war, but also the one that came after, that you'll consider my following words.
There is an entire group of people, just like you and me. People who have never done anything to harm you, and who are no different than you. People who used to be your friends, neighbors, coworkers. For years, we lived side by side with Muggleborns, and we know, inherently and deep down, that they are good people. That they do not deserve their rights to be stripped away. No one deserves that. They are not a threat to wizardingkind. They are merely human beings, like you and me, just trying to make it in this crazy life. This separation isn't what countless people gave their lives for. What children gave their lives for during the Battle of Hogwarts. This isn't what freedom truly looks like.
I want to prove to you, without a doubt, that what the Ministry stands for is bad. That they have misled you and lied to you. But I am going to do that in as honest and peaceful of a way as someone like me can manage. I am going to find ways to untie the blindfold that has covered the eyes of thousands, whether by choice, or by force. I want you to see the corruption and the lies that you've been fed. To truly understand what's happening here. I understand you have no reason to trust me, but why would I harm any of you? We need to stick together now, more than ever.
But that is exactly why I must press this point now, for all of you to hear - Myself, and those who take up the cause alongside me, are not vandals. We are not terrorists. We are not murderers. We have killed no one, and we will continue to condemn the actions of anyone who does, even if it be our own government. While I admit there have been mistakes made in the past, we must move past that and learn from those actions. I also want to formally state my people were not in any way involved in the defacing of the Lestrange Museum. While I may not like the Minister, I also recognize the importance of history to this community. Not all of us are the same. Lumping us together is dangerous, and fractures our community even more than it already is, as it makes our ideals seem worlds apart, when that is the furthest thing from the truth.
I love the magical world. I love the people in it. And I know that we can figure out a way to coexist in a fair way once more.
This is Neville Longbottom, signing off. Goodnight.
