Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
(square one)
( Who: Rhys && Rose and NPCs of both packs. )
( When: Early Morning. )
( Where: Looking through some houses near Central Park. )
( What: The Diebelius Pack get attacked. )
( Warnings && Ratings: G currently. )

Sometimes he would just stand there - eyes closed remembering what it was like before. The street was quiet, dead really. Beneath his feet the pavement was cracked, broken like egg shells. But when he closed his eyes it came to life. He can remember the quiet laughter of children in the park, their screams of joy as they found perfection in the swings or slides. He can remember the clickclick of women’s shoes on the pavement behind him. The rumble of cars which pass, how their speed would lift his coat when he stood here.

When he opened his eyes again all he saw was death. Desolation, something dry and empty. The park was a hollow husk of its once beauty - the trees were beginning to grow, the grass returning but the life and vibrancy it once had was gone. The others were scavenging he could hear their rustle and bustle in the houses behind them - in the corpses of their previous lives.

Rhys could hardly remember what a sunrise looked like - he couldn't remember how it felt to have the light beating against his face. How long had the sky been blackened by the sins of the war? How long had the ash coloured it grey? Too long.

The scent came to him in a rush of wind - mixed in the with gentle fresh scent of the leaves. Wolf. Enemy. His first instinct was Rose -- to find her, protect her. Then his pack. Nostrils flared as he took it in, eyes roaming the park before him. The noise of the houses behind him died and he knew if he turned they would all be watching the park waiting for the intruders to step out.

"Rose?" He would enquire quietly, hoping she would be close but not daring to look around. The need to know she was safe was almost overwhelming but the need to protect his pack, his family grew stronger. Then as an after thought he muttered a soft "Cassie." How could he forget his wife afterall?

Fights don't usually last for hours, they don't usually last for long at all. This fight was something like that - more a scuffle, children playing than anything. At that moment Rhys had a one tracked mind - connecting his fist with that bitches face. The crunch was satisfying, the growl of pain which was ripped forcefully from her lips and the sight of her hair flying as her head snapped back from the force. Recovery was almost instantaneous for her, a snarl and growl and she was surging forward all fists and snarling teeth. Before she had much chance to step forward there was Cassie, dragging her back with a fistful of blonde hair wrapped around slender fingers.

"You should be somewhere safe," Rhys told her, a warning tone in his voice as he watched Cassie grin at him with little thought of her own safety.

"But there is no fun, you know that sweets." Cassie replied before spinning the blonde in her hands and landing a good left hook, foot lifting to follow through with a kick to her chest. A crunch of bones and Cassie grinned at him, laughter on her lips as she sauntered forward pressing a kiss squarely to his lips.

Tensing he allowed her the kiss, though his mind as elsewhere running amok with worry over his pack. A dark haired wolf was leaping from the side and he twisted them both, kicking her knees from under her so she'd land squarely on the ground though Rhys was merely ducked, allowing the wolf to soar ahead before bounding after it.

It hurt, a hot bright sensation as his bones shifted and creaked. Clothes were shed even as he ran, feeling his wolf come forth so easily. Pausing he allowed the shift to complete, bones breaking and re-aligning as his body took upon the beast inside. A snarl dropped from his lips as he bound after the wolf, though something else caught his attention after a moment. The sound of Rose, a cry of pain and his wolf was screaming for blood. Head dipped low the dark, large brute shifted his lope to a run and made his way toward Rose. Bursting in through the trees Rhys would make a certainly threatening vision - larger than an average wolf, fur midnight black and his teeth a bright white shown out in a furious snarl.

The silver cut cleanly through the skin of her midsection, slicing three lines across her mocha flesh. It burned - because of the silver, clearly - the wounds ones that would not quickly heal. Marcus knew what he was doing, or rather Chris had, sending someone to ensure that when and if they managed to get their hands on Rose, she wouldn't soon forget. Blood ran from the cuts, smearing across her skin as she struggled in spite of the pain it caused her. The injury had awakened that wolf inside, the one she was still learning to embrace.

She reared back, biting her lip against the excruciating pain, and used the wolf who held her as leverage. Both of her legs left the crowd, planting a swift kick to Marcus' chest. It sent him sprawling backwards just as Rhys, fully transformed, burst through the treeline heading in their direction. When her feet met the ground again, Rose staggered, head swimming for a moment. It was then that she picked up the scent...liquified silver on those metal claws Marcus had used. No wonder it had hurt so badly, left her feeling so weak...

The man who held her jerked her back to her feet, holding her until Rhys was close enough to shove her in his direction. Rose was only vaguely aware. The silver was already in her bloodstream, she could feel it burning in her veins...

Silver burnt his nose, a tangy disgusting smell which had him snorting in fear and anger. Paws scrabbled for purchase on the gravel beneath his feet. The snarl which spilt from split jaws of deadly fang was made of fury and fire, something which had gone far beyond warning. There was a moment when he could only watch, the human part of him screamimng for Rose while the wolf screamed only for blood.

His jaws ached to find flesh, to rip and shred. Devour until there was nothing left, but for once his human side screamed for him to stay still. Rhys put himself between Rose and the floor, using his body as a cushion as he lowered her to the ground slower. The noise of the fight had died down, quieting to a distant hush as the others caught up with him, rushing over like a sea of helpful hands and worry.

Rose would have Rhys nose pushed to her cheek, snuffling against her in wolfy kisses of worry, a huff and growl as the others try to keep close. Finally he'd allow Cassie to kneel down beside the bleeding Rose to ascertain her injuries. Worried golden eyes lifted to meets Cassie's who only gave him a look.

The scent of silver assaulted all of them, washing over their senses in the most undesired way. For Rose it was more intense, not only the scent by the feel of it on her flesh, in her bloodstream, burning it's way throughout her slender form. She felt the wolf that held her shove her hard towards someone else, colliding with the solid bulk of a chest before the familiar scent broke through....Rhys. For a moment she was worried that Marcus would turn on him, use that silver against him too, but she couldn't catch the enemy's scent anymore, could only smell her own pack as they gathered around her.

Vaguely she was aware of Rhys at her side now, sniffing at her cheek. She turned slightly, seeking out more of his touch, one hand reaching out a bit blindly to try and find him. Then there was Cassie, through blurred vision she could make her out, and Rose's hand fell away. Even now she knew what was and was not hers. She winced, biting back a cry of pain as Cassie examined her wounds, the warmth of blood cooling as it dried against her skin, soaked through the denim of the jeans she wore.

"We should get her back..." one of the pack members stepped up, eyes moving continuously over the park around them, "Chris might be using this as a distraction of some kind." It seemed right up his alley, wound Rose and come after all of them. She couldn't let that happen, had she been able to focus enough to speak, she would have told Rhys as much. Instead, she could only groan in pain, her eyes slowly falling shut as she drifted into unconsciousness.

It took a lot of effort for Rhys to step away, to allow them to lift Rose and take her from the spot. All the while they would hear his growls of warning to be careful. He kept close as he could, circling about the pack as they moved through the rubble of the land taking Rose and the others to safety.

Rhys was the first to slip into their apartment building, checking for the others. When all appeared safe he would slip back out, signalling them to bring Rose through into the block and the apartment which they had turned into a small medical center. It was useful having a whole apartment to themselves.

One of the larger beta's in the pack moved to lift Rose carefully off of the ground, carefully cradling her in his huge arms. Rhys gave the orders and the others followed, moving through the park, continually keeping an eye out for the return of Marcus and his pack. One could never be too careful, especially not when one of your own was wounded.

The apartment was clear, safe for the moment - it wouldn't be if they all stayed, too much traffic was bound to draw attention. "You should go back, take some of them with you," Rhys and the beta that had carried Rose stood just off to the side as the women of the pack took their wounded back to bathe her quickly, clean out the wound, "you're vulnerable here, I'll stay with her." Someone had to, to make sure Rose had time to heal....or die...before Chris sent more people to find them.

Eventually Cassie and the others returned, carrying a freshly cleaned Rose. She was wearing a pair of sweats and a gray tank top, dark hair tumbling wetly over the arm of the couch as they laid her to rest against the cushions. She groaned softly, still unconscious. "Not looking good," one of the women crossed to where Rhys stood, her worry written on her face, "the silver is already in her blood." And so the question was, could she fight it or would someone have to stay and watch her die? She was too weak to be moved and the medical equipment in the apartment would barely give her a fighting chance. And still, the pack had to leave before they were all put at risk.
