GOALS
JUST THE FACTS
CENTRAL PARK Click to enlarge 843 acres in Manhattan, Central Park is 2.5 miles long by 0.5 miles wide. With expansive forests, gardens, fields, and plazas, as well as seven (manmade) lakes and reservoirs, it's a great chance to get back to nature without having to actually be in nature. Though it is lined by iconic Manhattan skyline on all four sides, specimens are actually restricted to Park confines (Central Park North to W 59th Street and Central Park West to 5th Avenue and the affiliated circles at the corners. The city itself is separated by a physical barrier. As it is late November, high temperatures will be about 45-50oF (~8oC) during the day, hovering around, if not just below freezing at night. Temperatures will drop to the mid-to high 30s (2-3oC) in early December and nightly lows in the 20s (-7oC). If specimens are lucky, they may even see snow. The Park is empty of tourists and New Yorkers which may give it a strange sort of stillness to those familiar with actual central park. But it does have a minimal, graduate student staff necessary to control rentals, staff food trucks, carts, restaurants, and market stalls. Attractions of interest include:
Rental for skates, fishing equipment, boats, and horses are available as can sporting equipment be borrowed from visitors centers and pavilions. Rental equipment cannot be taken back into the Wittgenstein compound. Available for the cost of commissary include The Tavern on the Green and food trucks in the circles at the corner of the park, and the occasional food cart within the park itself. Additionally, though the Wittgenstein (despite appearances of the Pope) is religiously neutral, Central Park will be getting ready for the winter holidays. A Lighting ceremony will take place on November 30th attended by Santa though efforts at embracing other winter holidays will be made (including Life Day and some D&D equivalent of Christmas, idk Pelor-mas?). Additionally, the Belvedere Ball is scheduled for December 6th, a black tie dinner and ball hosted in a heated tent in lower/mid park and all specimens over 18 will receive tickets. For more information on Central Park in fall, you can read This Guide. CHRISTMAS MARKET Located in Columbus Circle, this holiday market will present specimens with the chance to do some much needed shopping. While it will regularly be a place they stop and get off commissary cocoa, cider, coffees, and holiday treats, specimens are encouraged to check back semi-regularly as on certain days they may have the chance to trade unwanted items for articles from previous experiments, New York stores, or even from home! Specimens may even get the chance to talk to SANTA, though expect a higher level discourse on good and bad action than your standard "naughty or nice" questions. MIKE IS DEAD, LONG LIVE MIKE Specimens in Mike will find that their surroundings have change. While specimens in the suite and one BR apartments have not been moved, those in Mike's dormitories are now housed in capsule hotel-style pods and eight to a larger room. The common areas and decor across the block have also changed. For more information, look at the compound page The cause for this change is a new scientist. Going by Mike, he will be bringing a younger, cooler energy to the block and while he's more of a presence in his block and willing to engage on the netowrk, it's in a similar fashion to the other scientists. Mike is still fairly fickle and distant. No one will answer questions about what happened to the other Mike. NOVI GRAD SOUVENIRS If you spent time gathering items from Novi Grad and would like to see if you can bring them back, comment here and we'll talk :] |
