CHARACTERS: Archie Goldstein & Portia Harper
SETTING: Strolling the lovely streets of Hogsmeade
RATING: GP
STATUS: ongoing
SUMMARY: Well, sooner or later these kids needs to move beyond their library rendezvous at school and what better time than the first Hogsmeade weekend?

It wasn't that Archie hated the school. In fact, he was largely apathetic toward the entire concept of it. He just cherished these reprieves from the walls of Hogwarts, but really away from the sorts of characters that called those hollow halls home for nine months a year. Some days he really did question his own sanity.

That was why he had liked the library. People acted the way there were supposed in there. Or perhaps he was more his father's son than he cared to admit -- not that there was anything wrong with Anthony Goldstein, just that it was not who Archie saw himself as. His father always found Hogsmeade weekends to be a bit of a waste of time. Archie rather enjoyed the ritual, it certainly helped having a companion along for the ride.

"And this is where our tour from the castle to the quaint village of Hogsmeade will be stopping." He said, walking backwards down the main road just outside the town, his attention fully on Portia. "I will have to ask you to keep your belongings with you at all times. And please under no circumstance should you feed the third and fourth years. We feel it's best they survive on their own."

Despite all of her complaining, Portia actually looked forward to Hogsmeade weekends. Her sister always told her that she thinks too much, and Portia never could do too much thinking in Hogsmeade, mesmerized as she was by the colorful, outlandish shops and the eccentric store owners, even though she's been there thousands of times. It was such a relief from bland, dreary Hogwarts. It was such a relief from Scorpius Malfoy, who preferred to keep his eeriness inside the walls of the school.

"Look how sad they are, though." Portia passed a group of defeated third years, desperately searching for enough money to buy something delectable from Honeydukes. She made a show of clutching her bag to her side, making sure her belongings were with her at all times, lest the desperate third years make a grab for it.

"Where's our first stop, Mr. Goldstein? I'm just dying to buy some sugar quills to bring back home to grandmother."

Archie shook his head. "You give into one of them and then they'll never stop. Like rapid Hippogrifs." He shuddered at the thought. They could be scary if they wanted. He stopped walking backwards and turned around to match her stride. It was easier to walk this way.

He raised a brow at the mention of her grandmother. "I didn't know you're grandmother had a sweet tooth." This was nice. Archie almost felt normal today, sane even. The trick was forcefully not remembering the batty people in the castle. Although he was going to need to make a stop for some supplies for his next great plan.

"And if that is the case, our first stop would have to be Honeydukes. Probably best to go before the younger years do finally get their hands on some sweets." Now that would be a sight he would happily pass on.

Portia shrugged, searching with one hand through her bag for some sickles as they entered Honeydukes. "My grandmother has no teeth, actually. To be honest, that was just a cover up for my sweet tooth." It was true. Ever since her first year, Portia made it a point to go stock up on sweets for late night reading and research. Sugar quills in particular calmed her nerves after a risky night of sneaking into the restricted section.

"This has to be my favorite store." She breathed in the sugary smell and took in the wonderful array of colorful sweets. "I must apologize in advance, as I'm pretty sure half our day is going to be spent here," Portia said, making a beeline for the sugar quills, of course.

He chuckled. Sugar had to be the only way she could survive all those hours in the library. Archie made a note to remember that for one of their future library meet ups. It would be nothing more than a small token, but if it made her happy, that was all that mattered. And judging by the way she reacted just walking in -- it would be enough.

Smiling brightly now with the sight of his girlfriend seemingly act her age, or just perhaps a bit younger. "I think we can manage that. Although I would like to stop by Gladrags before the day is done." He clasped his hands for emphasis. "I have big plans in mind."

"Oh, what kind of plans?" She would have given him an interested look, if she hadn't been so busy picking out a hearty stock of sweets to hold her over until the next trip. Portia continued to move through the store, grabbing things off of the shelves.

"Does it have to do with the FMWC, or with someone in particular?" Portia found Archie's pranks interesting and clever, and a refreshing break from all of the tediousness of her research.

He followed her through out the store. Half of his time was spent watching her and then looking at the other students running around the store. "Yes and yes," he replied to her question. He picked up a bag of every flavour beans tossing them from hand to hand. "And best of all it involves time travel."

"And quite possibly the cooperation of a lot of people." It would take work to pull off properly, but when Archie found something that excited him nothing could stand in his way. If only he had that sort of dedication to his coursework.

Noticing the bag he juggled in his hands, Portia held out her free hand in order to take it from him. She tried very hard not to wince at the mention of time travel; something Scorpius continually went on and on about lately, and said, "time travel, really? This must be some plan."

Portia had always secretly wanted to participate in a prank, but had never had the opportunity to, seeing as Slytherins and Prefects weren't really the type to play them. She raised a brow. "What kind of cooperation?"

He handed her the bag. "I was hoping you would ask that question." Archie face broke into a wide grin. She was making his dream come true. He told Phoebe they weren't in second year anymore, and this prank surely would measure up to his current age.

"Mostly, we'll need people throughout the castle to dress and even act in different time periods." Archie leaned closer to her, so he drop his voice on the off chance that someone overheard. But really it was as good a reason as any to move closer to her. "See, it's going to start with small random 'temporal shifts' and then eventually the entire Gryffindor Tower will be dislodged from the current time continuum. Oswald won't have a clue what hit him." This did bring his level of pranks to a whole new level.

Luckily for Portia, the slight reddening on her cheeks was partially concealed by the mound of candy she held in arms as Archie leaned in closer. Sure, she wasn't the type of girl to lose her cool, but she's still a girl. She tried to focus on his words instead of the closeness of his face.

"That is absolutely ingenius." She thought for a moment what the consequences of being a prefect and participating in this scheme would be, then realized that no one would really care. "I'm pretty sure a lot of students will be up for this. Perhaps you could make some sort of secret announcement?"

"Well, I did come up with it." He gave her a little half-smirk. Archie had his modest moments, this was not one of them. "Why don't you let me hold some of this for you?" He held out his arms, at least it would stop him from playing with all the different containers of sweets and trinkets through out the store.

"As for a secret announcement, it is in the works. I just need supplies first." This would be even better than the time Archie convinced Oswald they had a FMWC meeting at four in the morning. And if he had at least one prefect on his side that was a guaranteed get of jail free card. Not that he ever really got in trouble his pranks. He really did have the ideal target. "Of course this does now make you responsible for recruitment."

"Oh no, it's fine, i've got it," She shifted her weight slightly, as if to show she really did have it all, only for a few items to fall to the floor. "Or perhaps not," Portia smiled sheepishly, handing over some of the goods to Archie.

"I'm probably not your best bet for recruitment, seeing as i'm both a Slytherin and a Prefect, and as i'm sure you've noticed, those particular groups don't have a very great sense of humor." Portia mulled over her housemates for a moment before speaking again. "But if Oswald has done something particularly bothersome to them, which i'm sure he has, they may be up for it."

He certainly didn't fancy himself a handbag, but he was happy to help out when needed. So if that meant holding a few things for Portia, why not? "But that's where you're wrong. Portia Harper, now that's a name to inspire the masses." Although perhaps most importantly it was proof that someone outside of his house and outside of the FMWC was in on this prank. Archie needed a whole of people to have this be worth anything.

"And really, Oswald continuously digs his own grave. Sometimes I wonder how he has even survived this long." He shrugged. "Or rather how I've survived living with him for the better part of five years." Now that was a scary thought.

Portia scoffed quietly, as she was fairly certain that being a Prefect AND a Slytherin brought her down quite a few notches among her fellow classmates. She wasn't about to burst Archie's bubble, though. "I'll see what I can do for you, sir." She said, moving towards the counter to purchase the candies.

"Oswald is... interesting." That was an understatement. Portia never had the misfortune of running into him as of yet, but even from afar she could tell he was an odd one. That and Archie's many stories gave her a good idea of Oswald's character. "I'm not really sure how you have either, but I'm glad for it. Otherwise I wouldn't have ever had the pleasure of hearing your many, many stories."

“And they never stop coming because Oswald lives in a reality all of his own.” That was one thing Archie could always count on – the simple astonishment that Oswald believed some of the things he did. It almost as bad as Bertram. The two of them together … well, that was something that Archie tried to not think about when he didn’t have to.

He followed her to the counter. “How about we don’t speak of Oswald or the club for the next couple of hours and see where that takes us?” Most of all he needed a break from it. Not that his life was that exciting outside of the club, but he would rather be normal and boring than constantly questioning his own sanity. “In fact, I think we should play would you rather.”

"I am perfectly fine with that. Thinking of the FMWC makes me tired." Portia paid the cashier and watched him bag her things while contemplating Archie's suggestion. She'd heard of the game, of course, but had only ever played it with her sister years back, when the questions were 'would you rather eat a cockroach or an ant?' instead of the more serious, personal questions. She shrugged picking up her bags and heading towards the door.

"Alright, but you have to start."

"You may regret that later," he said with a bright smirk on his face. Oh Archie had plenty of those ridiculous would you rathers, but he decided to table those for now. It was a game he played often with different members of the FMWC to help pass the time. And while it was all in good fun, the reasoning behind the answers was always very telling.

He scuttled ahead of her to grab the door for her. "Alright, Portia, would you rather say everything on your mind or never be able to communicate with anyone?"

"Thank you." Portia gave Archie a sort of half-curtsy before stepping outside Honeydukes. She pondered the question, though she already knew what she would say; if she were to have to say everything on her mind, she would be kicked out of Hogwarts in a flash or end up dead at the hands of Scorpius or one of his fellow crazies. Instead of saying all this aloud, she simply said, "I would rather never be able to communicate with everyone." She paused, then added rather mysteriously, "There are some thoughts that should never be said out loud."

Moving on quickly, Portia asked, "Would you rather always tell the truth, or always tell lies?"

He responded to her answer with a dramatic 'oooh.' While dismissively playful of the remark, he was curious to know exactly what sort of things fell into that category. Not that he would want to say everything on his mind, although it could be quite liberating.

"Always tell the truth." Archie barely thought about it. "I might be hated, but I would be trusted. Although it would make pranks more difficult to pull." Really, that was the largest extent of the lies he told. Archie Goldstein really didn't have anything to lie about, his life was quite normal.

Once outside the shop, he wasn't sure where they were off too next, but he was happy just for the company. "Would you rather question ideas or established tradition?"

Portia didn't quite know where they were going either, but her stomach rumbled slightly and she hoped they would stop to eat soon. "How respectable of you," She said, and meant it.

"I've never been a fan of tradition, to be honest. I've lived in a house built on tradition, and it's exhausting." Portia thinks of her family and represses a sigh.

She paused, thinking of a question. She never had been good at questions, not even when she was little. Nonetheless, she asked, "Would you rather know everything, or nothing at all?"

Not a fan of tradition. That was another thing he filed away. He wondered if there was something more about her family that she's kept from him. But families were wacky, that was part of their charm. His was certainly eclectic. And he loved them for it.

"Oh I would happily take the burden of knowledge any day." He may have been a Gryffindor, but his parents were both Ravenclaws. Archie may not have showed it in the every day, he may not even be entirely aware of it himself, but he wanted to be challenged.

Archie turned into squaring his hips to hers, but keeping some distance between their bodies. He placed a hand on her arm, looking deep into her eyes. His mind teetered between a serious question and something a bit lighter. "Would you rather I kissed you now or I kissed you later?"

Portia had little time to think about Archie's answer before he asked his next rather startling question. His sudden forwardness suprised her, and despite herself, she could feel herself grow a little light-headed and red in the face. Regaining some composure, she looked at him coolly, moved her body closer ever so slightly, and said, " I'd rather you kiss me now, actually."

"Excellent choice," he said. The smile widening on his face. Archie was far from a Casanova. But he did have as style that was all his own. He could only hope that it was endearing enough.

While this dating thing was new and so was the kissing, he was more comfortable with it now, because really him being nervous only led to more fumbled limbs and uneasiness. Knowing how awkward their first kiss had been on his side, he could only imagine what it was like for her, but she hadn't left then. It was a learning curve, but one that far more appealing to him.

He reached up slowly with his left hand, pushing her hair back behind her ear before leaning in for a very gentle kiss. As much as wanted to kiss her, he hadn't forgotten about their present location and he really didn't want to bring that sort of attention to them.
