Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Charlie and Dora
What: Being wibbly and cute and making sure Charlie can dress like a grownup
When: Wedding day! Before the fateful walk down the aisle
Where: The bride's dressing room, as Tonks puts on those beloved little touches
Why: Because it's time to get this wedding moving!

Nope. Tonks was still not completely convinced that the woman looking back at her from the mirror was actually her. Because, see, that girl was wearing a wedding dress. And Tonks was the girl who, at thirteen, had declared she was never getting married because no man was special enough.

But it was her. Because she'd found that someone who was special enough. Today she was going to walk through the church and marry the man who'd truly let her become an adult. She would finally be Remus' wife, after the hell they'd gone through the last several years. Her daughter would have both of her parents through sickness and health and all that nonsense.

With that thought, Tonks turned a proud eye to her daughter, who was resting in her carrier nearby. She'd have more than her fair of caregivers during the ceremony, and the reception that followed at Hogwarts, but for the moment, Tonks wanted Felicity with her. It probably wasn't traditional to have her little girl at the wedding, but then, Remus and Tonks were far from the traditional couple. Never mind Felicity being born before her parents got married. There was a thirteen year age difference, there was the small fact that he was a werewolf, and oh yes, there'd been a war being fought all around them for the last three years.

None of that mattered. "You don't care, do you?" Tonks asked Felicity, reaching down to pick up and scourgify the pacifier that the baby had dropped. She offered it to the infant once more and smiled. "You love him just as much as I do, don't you? We're going to be the most amazing family, you know that?"

So needless to say, it was with tears in her eyes that she called, "Come in," when there was a knock on the door. Probably her mother, checking to make sure she hadn't gone and made her hair pink pre-wedding, or maybe Ginny, offering last minute assistance.

Charlie was happy for Tonks, no, thrilled even. He had been present when she swore she would never get married and oh, how he had laughed. He told her that someday she would be eating her words and this was it. He was so glad she had found Remus; it if were any other guy, he probably wouldn't have been so relaxed about Dora getting married. Charlie knew that Remus would take good care of her which made giving her away so much easier.

Giving her away. Charlie was still touched he got to do that. The only thing he disliked about it was the robes. He had spent the last thirty minutes putting on the dress robes made especially for this occasion and though it fitted perfectly, he still struggled to put it on. He had jumped up and down, back and forth, wiggled about and whatnot, trying to make himself more comfortable, but the truth was, Charlie Weasley hadn't wore a fancy robe since he left Hogwarts. And boy did it feel weird. "May it be the last time, too," he growled, trying to make his hair more presentable. He had even cut his hair for the wedding, much to his mother's pleasure, and while tangles weren't the issue any more, self-conscious, messy hair was. Ten minutes later, Charlie was ready to bang his head against the wall out of sheer despair. He didn't know any ruddy hair spells and nothing else seemed to work.

So knocking on Dora's door he was. He was meaning to see her before the ceremony anyway, and if that meant he got to blame her for forcing him to wear fancy robes, the better. When he heard her call out, he stepped in. "Do-o-o-ora," he complained before having a good look at her. He shut the door by leaning on it, then crossed his arms and smiled: "Wow, Dora. You look like a girl.." He flashed a wicked grin and continued: "Sorry, I meant amazing." Of course she did look fantastic. She was glowing, he had seen her happy and all more times he could count, but never like this.

Tonks didn't even try to hide her grin. This was not the day to drive Charlie Weasley mad. She'd have plenty of time for that later on. Instead, she rushed over, throwing her arms around him in a huge hug that would probably make him gag and wheeze and be annoyed and irritated but oh Merlin, she just didn't care. In a short while, she'd be Mrs. Remus Lupin and it would be perfect, bloody well perfect it would.

"Of course I look like a girl, git, I am a girl!" Despite her words, she was laughing as she released him from the minor chokehold she had on him. "Not that you noticed in the last, oh, fifteen years, but it's true, I swear."

Oi, he looked perfect, all cleaned up and prettified and why didn't he do this more often? She gave his tie a little tug, straightening it and giving him just a bit more room to breathe. "There. That's better."

Charlie didn't mind the hug, even though it was rather suffocating. No, he didn't mind, but he sure as hell wasn't going to pass up a shot to tease Tonks a bit. When she finally released him, he clutched to his chest and began dramatically gasping for air. "You.. want.. to.. get.. rid.. of.. me.. eh?" he wheezed, jokingly.

He relaxed a second later and grinned at her. "Apparently it is true. I had my suspicions, but I wasn't too sure." He dragged the last two words a bit, squinting at her chest (of course he knew she was the only woman it was okay to do that to/with, as she would see he was simply kidding, even if she did smack him for it) as if examining if she truly was a girl. "But so it would seem," he finally said, standing up straight, nodding knowingly.

Charlie couldn't help but to start wiggling like a little boy who thought he was big enough not to have his mum fix his shirt for him when Tonks adjusted his tie. He was glad for the extra air, but still he conjured up the best spoiled kid pout he had in store. "Do I have to wear this? It's so..." He cringed and pulled his chest a bit, "Confining. It's weird. Dress robes, pfft."

Tonks had the instant feeling she'd be rolling her eyes quite a bit that day. All day. He really could be unbearably irritating, she had no idea why she kept him around. The fact that he even implied that she was less than a woman (alright, so she wasn't exactly stacked, there was nothing wrong with that, hell, she was nursing, it was probably the best she'd ever looked...there at least!) made her want to turn him around and march him right back out the door, dress robes and all.

But, for better or for worse, he was Charlie and she loved him absolutely to death. "You're pitiful," she informed him, giving a haughty toss of her head. "I'm all dressed up and you don't hear me complaining, do you? Felicity isn't, either, are you, love?" she asked, glancing over at the baby carrier. The infant seemed to be studying them both with wide, interested eyes and Tonks couldn't help but giggle. "See? She loves looking pretty and I bet secretly, so do you."

Naturally, Charlie hadn't meant anything bad with his teasing and he certainly didn't genuinely imply Tonks was less than a woman or anything the like. After all, he had been looking after his best mate and warding off suspicious blokes since '85 (or something like that, who counted), not that she couldn't take care of herself. He just couldn't stop himself from having a laugh, mostly because otherwise he'd be bawling like a little baby.

Charlie walked to Felicity's carrier and smiled. She was adorable. Of course, he found pretty much all babies adorable in some way or another, but Felicity was just perfect. Of course he was slightly biased, being her uncle and all, but still. "I don't know. She might just be putting up an act, it is her mum and dad's big day, innit?" he said, turning to Tonks. "Me? I'm not mature enough to keep my emotions in control." He gave a hearty laugh and went over to Tonks for a second hug, less suffocating then the last one, but all the sweeter. "Seriously, Dora, you do look wonderful," he said, still holding her. He let her go and pointed to a lock of hair that was especially uncooperative: "Now, will you help me do something about this?"

The idea that Charlie was serious about potentially bawling at her wedding would always make Tonks giggle. He was smart and brave and all those things she loved in her Gryffindor friends and fiance, after all. He was not the overemotional sap that she'd been lately (bloody horomones) and he was also, well, a bloke. And a grownup one, at that.

But that didn't keep her misty eyes at bay when he folded her into another hug. Mmm, yeah, she could easily mark today as the best day in the whole wide history of ever. Best friend by her side, kid sister sort as her Maid of Honor, her mum nearby at all times, a wizarding world safe and sound with the boy who'd done that for them just as safe, and her sweet baby girl and that baby's father, who Tonks loved more than anything. All together, all with her. This day was downright perfect.

Pulling back from Charlie, Tonks gave his hair a serious expression. She tilted her head and studied it before picking her wand up from a side table and holding it up dramatically. "Now, this is really complicated, so don't budge, okay?" She focused all of her attention on it before reaching for a bottle of Sleak-Eezee potion sitting nearby and applying rather liberally. "There!" she declared, wrapping his hair around her wand to smooth it. "Whew, that was tough." Giggling, she smoothed his hair into place, a look of pride on her face. "Now, you are presentable, Mr. Weasley. Oi, I'm proud of me."

Charlie chuckled at Tonks as she fixed his hair in such a dramatic manner. When she was done, when his hair looked the nicest it had for the last couple of years, Charlie eyed himself in the mirror. "You work magic, Miss Tonks," he laughed, admitting he didn't look too bad, "Mum will want to know how you managed to get me into fancy robes, looking all proper."

He turned to Tonks, giving her a wide smile. "So, you ready to become Ny-" He stopped himself at that. He was quite aware she didn't like her name, he had always been aware of that and yet he had no troubles calling her Nymphadora. Not only did he like the name, but he also enjoyed her reaction to it. But this was her wedding day and, however unbelievable that may sound, Charlie actually figured he'd cut her some slack with that. He continued: "Dora Lupin? Heh, I need to get used to calling you Missis Lupin when I'm teasing you."
