I believe it was Rene Descartes that said, "If you would be a real seeker after truth, it is necessary that at least once in your life you doubt, as far as possible, all things."
It's only when you strive to follow that principle that you realize something...It's harder than it sounds.
When it comes to seeking truth, one must embrace doubt. After embracing doubt, one must decide how much to challenge. Whose beliefs? Your own? Everyone else's? That may be one of the hardest questions you'll have to answer in your quest for the truth. How far are you going to go with your doubt. One can only go so far with doubting their own beliefs before they realize that it's entirely possible that their entire lives, perhaps even their existences in some cases, are
lies.
