WHO: Everyone
WHAT: 475th Annual Ministry Christmas Ball
WHERE: Bloomsbury Ballroom, London.
WHEN: Evening of Friday, December 23.

Despite all the threats, hassle, and hubbub regarding the safety of the event, the Annual Ministry Gala opened its doors to its guests on time, and without a hitch. The ballroom was decorated in ivory, with glistening chandeliers and wintry crystal centerpieces. Enchanted snow fell in shimmering curtains around the edges of the room, and sprigs of mistletoe hung from every doorway, surprising lovers and friends alike.

But it wasn't all laughter and celebration. Security was amped up, and every guest checked twice. VIP guests that elected to avoid the queue were subjected to a more intense media barrage than ever before. Aurors were posted at every entrance, with more undercover hitwizards in attendance. There was a distinct air of anxiety among the event organizers. But for most- the alcohol was flowing, the music lovely. It was Christmastime in London, the most beautiful city in the world.

Roger dutifully wrapped his arm around Mandy's waist as they headed into the Gala, trying to ignore the photographers and reporters and, most of all, that guilty feeling that clawed at his stomach, a gnawing, nagging feeling that was pretty much constant at this point. He'd sent off Fleur's present this morning, a present which he should have never bought, words he never should have written, and the whole thing something he should have left well enough alone. But he was stupid and impulsive.

Mandy was putting on a very lovely smile, despite that things were definitely not so sunny at home. And since it was impossible to hide the twins at this point, her dress was tight enough to show them off, and now that she was finally allowed to, she kept doing that pregnant woman thing with the belly-holding. And she was glowing and really beautiful. Gorgeous, honestly. But every time he looked at her it just felt wrong. Like they were trying too hard to hold the seams together. She knew something was up and even if he never cheated again- which of course, he didn't plan on- he didn't know if he had the tenacity to keep lying.

Roger pressed a kiss to her cheek and waved Will over to stay with her for a while. "I'm going to get a drink." He headed over to the bar and sucked down two shots of bourbon, then to shake things up, ordered a bourbon on the rocks. God, he was fucked. His kids were going to be fucked. Everything was fucked.

Susan didn't know why she was here. She was terrified that she'd run into Eddie, but then again it wasn't like he had the money to buy a ticket. Susan hated the holidays. Everyone was so cheerful and merry and all she wanted was to curl up with a good book and come back out after the New Year.

Of course, that was really never an option. She had people she needed to smile and shake hands with and even though the family name wasn't much of a family anymore, Susan always felt obligated. After saying her hellos to various Ministry officials, Susan excused herself and slipped to the bar for a drink.

Looking over, Susan spotted Roger. She hesitated for a moment, unsure if she should approach him or not. He was friends with her ex and Susan understood loyalty. Still, it'd be rude not to say hello. "Roger," she said with a small smile. "Hi."

Roger glanced over at the witch next to him, and really of all the witches he didn't want to talk to-which was a surprisingly long list currently- Susan wasn't one of them. "Hey, Susan," he said, pausing in his rather determined drinking long enough to properly acknowledge her.

He glanced around to see if maybe she had Eddie in tow- he could hardly keep up with the two of them, but it seemed like this time they were done for good. Roger was good mates with Eddie, but he never really got involved in other people's relationships. He did a good enough job of fucking up his own, he was busy enough.

"You look nice," he offered, it not escaping his notice that her breasts were on prominent display, but he knew Susan well enough to keep the thought to himself. "How are you?"

"Bored half to death, you? And thanks." Susan took a glass of wine and drank it back as quickly as possible. "I'd rather be at home with an ale and some Wireless, but I suppose the open bar is nice." Susan smirked a little and leaned against the bar, surveying the rest of the ballroom.

Roger was one of the few people Susan could actually stand for more than a few minutes. And if she was going to make idle chit chat between smiling and nodding to various members of the Wizengamot, it might as well be with someone she didn't loathe.

Perhaps it wasn't the best attend to attend the gala, but Tracey wasn't going to hide in the corner as though she'd done something wrong. She knew of her innocence and was going to continue to live her life. She'd come on the arm of a colleague from the Ministry, though she didn't have much interest in him beyond friendship.

It was actually refreshing to not worry about her so-called friends. She felt free for the first time in months. Her friends would come back into her life if they wanted to be there, but she saw no reason to beg them. And so Tracey had danced with her date, had a few drinks and was generally having a lovely time. Stepping off to the powder room to touch up her lipstick, Tracey was on her way back to the party when someone stepped on the hem of her dress. "Blimey, do you know how much this cost? Be careful!"

Gabrielle entered the ballroom in a grey pencil dress that hugged every tiny curve and left nothing to the imagination. Fleur, of course, had loved it. Gabby usually preferred something more flashy, but Fleur had splashed onto the London scene and now the papers called her a whore every week. Perhaps it was better to be a little bit mysterious, to wear grey to her first gala and ease into the social scene. She, certainly, did not want to be the second French whore in London.

She had stalwartly refused to go anywhere with William the dog lover, as much as Gabrielle adored her sister, and so she entered pointedly ahead of them. She would meet up with Fleur later. Hopefully when she gained some sense. Gabrielle glanced around at the people already there- a few of the Quidditch players she recognized from the papers, a few people she recognized from Bill and Fleur's wedding, though that had been years ago.

Gabrielle made her way toward the bar- some wine would be lovely tonight, though she doubted it would be as good as the wine at home- but then a girl was turning and barking at her, complaining about how much her dress cost.

"il ne pouvait pas avoir coûté tant que ça, il semble très bon marché pour moi," Gabrielle started, reflexively, then stopped, offered a tight smile, and tried to think of the right English words. "Excusez-moi.If maybe your expensive dress was being fitted better to you it would not drag on the floor, comme ça," she said, with a helpful gesture to the hem of Tracey's gown.

"And perhaps you would not look so cheap if you were not wearing a dress a size too small," Tracey said back with a saccharine smile. She had little to no patience for bitchy witches, especially when they weren't her friends. Her own friends were bitchy, but rarely to her. At least they weren't before. "But I suppose having a skirt so tight made it impossible for you to walk properly."

Whoever this French witch was, Tracey had no tolerance for her. She had every intention of returning to her date and being rid of the child.

Gabrielle's mouth fell open just a little bit when she processed the words Tracey had just said to her. "I believe that you are- what is the word? Oh, oui. Jealous that you could not afford or fit into this dress." She smiled sweetly and cocked her hip a bit. Who in the world talked to her like this? She was beautiful and adorable and she was supposed to be adored.

"I am walking just fine, merci, I just was distracted by your 'umongous forehead and forgot to be watching where my feet went. Now, if you will be excusing me, I am 'oping you have a wonderful evening, despite 'aving that face."

Oliver wasn't much for parties, but he was doing his best to have a good time at the gala. He'd taken Katie, thankful there was someone with him who was fun and easy going. He had bought a new tuxedo and made sure he looked his best. Oliver danced with Katie, sipped on nothing more than pumpkin juice for the entire evening and laughed with his mates.

His eyes scanned the crowd for Penelope, hoping to catch her before the night was out. He'd missed her over the last few weeks, choosing to stay out of her way rather than embarrass himself again. She'd made it abundantly clear that she only saw Oliver as a mate and even if he thought she was wrong, Oliver was going to respect her wishes. But that didn't stop him for looking for her every chance he got.

Arriving on the arm of Charlie was, quite possibly, the best part of Christmas for Kyra. She didn't know if they were a couple or merely dating, but she fancied him a great deal and spending time with Charlie made her incredibly happy.

It was why she went to so much trouble to look her best. Kyra went all out and the end result was pretty incredible, if she said so herself. Kissing Charlie on the cheek, Kyra smiled at him. "If you play your cards right," she teased him quietly, "maybe you'll get to see me tomorrow too."

Charlie wasn't sure how he'd got so lucky half the time. He still wasn't certain what was going to happen with Kyra, but he did know that she'd somehow managed to get past his rather prickly exterior to dug herself under his skin. He enjoyed having her around, but he still found himself a little terrifiedby the idea of comitment. This was nice though, even if it left him questions unanswered.

"You should know that I've never realy been on to play my cards right. I have a tendency to fuck it all up somehow." He smirked at her, tilting just slightly to press a kiss to her temple. "You look amazing though." He'd probably said it about a dozen times since picking her up, but he really did mean it.

"Thank you," she said with a bashful smile. "And I think fucking things up is part of your charm," she teased back and pulled him more into the party. Charlie was different than any bloke she'd met before, but that was good. Maybe Kyra needed different.

"I'd ask you for a dance, but the last time I did that I didn't hear from you again for awhile. So.. drink?" She said it all with a smile, but there was a hint of true worry in her voice. What if she didn't talk to him again after tonight?

Bill had his wife on his arm again and things made more sense. He still had a gap in his memory, a giant blank spot of nothingness where Bill knew memories and images should be. Still, it was Christmas and he was with Fleur in a gorgeous ballroom. She was, without a doubt, the most gorgeous woman in the room and Bill always felt a boost to his ego when she was with him. It almost canceled out his worry about being scarred and ugly.

"Would you like to dance," he whispered against her ear. Godric, she smelled good. He'd missed that smell. Funny, Bill didn't know how he could miss something he was use to having all the time, but he distinctly felt like he'd missed it.

Fleur had noticed all of the looks when she arrived with Bill, but she ignored them. She knew this time that they weren't whispering about her beauty or his scars, they were talking about them arriving together. She tried to remain disinterested, but all the confusion the last few weeks had caused her her head spinning.

Regardless of what was going on in her head, it was nice to be with someone she actually cared about at these things. Shifting her new bracelet down on her wrist, she leaned into Bill as he whispered to her. "Oui, I would love to William."

Placing her hand in his, she pulled him gently to the dance floor. Once they got there she placed both of her hands on his chest, leaning into him. "I 'ave missed this."

Bill placed one hand on the small of Fleur's back and the other on her shoulder, dancing close with her. He didn't enjoy dancing, but Bill knew that Fleur loved it. He smiled at her, resting his chin on the top of her head.

"I'm sorry," he said honestly. "I didn't mean for anything to happen. I don't think I did, anyway." Bill might not have remembered why he and Fleur were divorced, but he couldn't imagine he'd intentionally hurt her.

She smiled at him gently, letting his hand push her against him further. He was leaning against him, the side of her face resting on his shoulder. Looking around the room, she decided to stop looking for something that wouldn't be found. Pulling away a bit, she looked up at him and shook her head.

"It is alright William. We 'ave both made many mistakes." She pulled her hand off of one of his shoulders and used it to gently push his hair off of his face. "I 'ope you get your memory back soon."

Astoria had arrived at the gala only a few moments before, but her date was already chatting with his superiors trying to impress them. She wasn't interested in a thing they were saying and so she headed to the bar.

Ordering a nice glass of red wine, she smiled at the bartender sweetly before tipping him and taking that glass from his hand. She took a sip before heading over to a section of tables and sitting down by herself. Her sister was not in attendance, and normally she wouldn't have gone to an event with so many pending threats, but she had already promised to be be escorted there.

She took a seat at a table near the dance floor and watched as a slow song came on. Couples were smiling and laughing, but she just observed. She really didn't mind being alone, at least she got a bit of time to relax.

Marcus was tired of galas. They were always the same and there really was no point to them. He was much better suited to a night at some dark and sketchy pub than to all of these black tie affairs. And in fact, he would have skipped this one all together if that threat of an attack hadn't been made. But ever since his last run in with the WAP, his wand hand had been more than itching for a little action and he wasn't going to miss out on a possible opportunity to actually do something. Something that wasn't business related.

It hadn't been hard to find a date at the last minute. She was a petite Asian thing which was different for him given his affinity for blondes. But she was nice and not completely retarded. But she'd never been to an event like this and as such, he'd lost her hours ago as she stared and gazed at everyone who was in attendance. So far, the night had been fairly normal, definitely no signs of attacks just yet, but it was still early and Marcus wasn't going to leave just yet.

Glancing around the room in a feeble attempt to find his date, his eyes fell upon a very familiar, and very gorgeous, blond sitting alone at one of the tables. As the tempo of the music changed, he walked over to her, offering her a small smile before holding his hand out to her. "Miss Greengrass," he greeted. "May I have this dance?" he asked with a small smirk.

Astoria had barely noticed Marcus walk up to her, so when he said her name, she looked up at him in surprise. A smile immediately played across her lips as she stood up to take his hand. "I'd love to." She leaned into him and gently kissed him on the lips to say hello before pulling away with he hands at the insides of his elbows. "I'm surprised you're here. I was sure you'd be sick of these things by now."

She wondered if he was there with a date, but it was no matter, she was as well. Leaving her half full glass of wine forgotten at the table, she hooked her arm in his and walked over with him to the dance floor. Once they arrived, she turned so that she was facing him, her arms reflexively hooking at the back of his neck. She bit her lip, before moistening it with her tongue and smiling at him. "You look incredibly handsome, as usual. Though I would expect nothing less from the Marcus Flint, himself."

Ginny and Blaise arrived perfectly on time. Part of her wondered if he'd even show up to get her, but there he was, standing there looking handsome as ever. She didn't want to admit how attracted she was to him, but much to her chagrin, he looked good in a suit.

Her hair fell down her back in loose curls, and the slit up her thigh was higher than something she would normally wear. Pulling a piece of hair behind her ear, she walked in the gala with Blaise only to be stared at by perhaps every person in the room. She noticed Bill dancing with Fleur, and Charlie with some blonde on his arm, but she didn't look them in the eye. The last thing she wanted was for any of them to talk to Blaise.

The whispers were loud, but a small grin was planted on her face. Turning to Blaise, she licked her lower lip before biting it slightly. "Do you want a drink?"

Blaise arrived at Ginny's door exactly when he said he would, swapping his normal suit for a tuxedo. He'd honestly wondered for a moment if, in the act of knocking on her door, he'd burst into flames or something. Like that whole vampires have to be invited in thing. He figured it was sort of like that with a Death Eater asking to take out the ex-girlfriend of Harry fucking Potter.

But he'd been perfectly fine, no flames. And honestly, he was a little gobsmacked by that dress. She looked gorgeous, and it went perfectly with her hair. And the slit up the side? Had him wondering if she had freckles everywhere. He fully intended to see for himself by the end of the night.

In the meantime, however, Blaise was ever the gentleman- despite a few of his usual comments, and the shit-eating grin he had on his face when they walked in. Ginny might be avoiding eye contact with her friends and family, but Blaise wasn't. And Ginny might not be exactly comfortable with the attention, but he could tell part of her liked it. That was sort of the reason he'd asked her. Girls liked bad boys because they were dangerous, but the bad boys liked good girls because there was a thrill there, too. He considered Ginny's question and tilted his head, eyes tracing along her lips before lifting back up to meet her gaze. "I think I'd like a dance first," he murmured, easing an arm around her waist.

She didn't know if she was going through a phase or if she genuinely liked Blaise, but the way he was looking at her? That was definitely something she could get used to. She was positive that he would have her incredibly frustrated by the end of the night because he was the most infuriating person she had ever met (besides Malfoy maybe) but at the same time, she liked that he made her feel something.

Grinning at his comment, she leaned in into his arm on her waist. "I suppose I should let you prove to me that you can, in fact, dance." She let him lead her to the dance floor and once they arrived, she faced him hooking her arms around his neck.

Ginny studied his face. She didn't quiet understand how someone so dark could have such bright, beautiful eyes -- but there they were staring at her intently as she was pushed up closely against him. Pursing her lips, her gaze narrowed a bit "So do you always look like you're plotting to kill someone, or is it just the company?"

Wayne adjusted the sleeves on his suit jacket before he gently knocked on Pansy's door. As he waited, he smoothed down the collar of his shirt before letting his hands hang awkwardly at his sides. The suit he was wearing was simple. Black with a white shirt underneath. Instead of wearing a tie, he left the first few buttons open. Pansy was always commenting on how terrible his suits were, but this one fit him and he looked rather charming -- hopefully it would suffice.

When he had asked Pansy to the gala, he hadn't thought she would say yes. He was certain he'd have to follow her around the entire night like some sort of ministry stalker. But there was no way he'd let her go to this alone. Not after all the threats that W.A.P. had placed on it; and from what he heard at the DMLE, those threats were most likely going to follow through. Sure, they would amp up security but for whatever reason, these guys had ways of doing things. They must've had support from someone bigger, he was sure. Clearing his throat, he looked forward as the door began to open. Finally.

Pansy finally answered the door and stepped out into the hall, a good twenty minutes late, which was pretty normal for her. What was not normal for her was this dress, and she, for once, was a little uncertain about it as she turned around a bit, trying to gauge Wayne's approval. Of course she had a backup gown but it wasn't nearly as elegant. And that would take another hour. Her hair was up to show off her bare neck, and she reflexively moved to check for a necklace that wasn't there tonight.

"That's… a much better suit," she said, offering a small smile. "You look nice." And he did. Nice enough to be seen with her, which she'd worried about, though it didn't ease her worries about the one thing she could never fix: his blood. She just hoped Daphne wouldn't be awful about it. And honestly if she'd said no he probably would have hung around all night anyway, so at least this way they both knew she was safe.

That's what she was going to go with, anyway. She was just going to completely disregard how nice it had felt when he'd asked her, and how nice it had felt saying yes.

An immediate grinned was placed on Wayne's lips when Pansy opened the door. She looked stunning. But it wasn't just the dress or the hair, something about her looked softer, prettier even. He decided at that moment that he loved the way she looked when she was happy.

He was happy that she liked his suit. "Wore it just for you." He took her hand and brought it up to his lips, kissing the top gently before letting it fall, his hand still holding onto hers. "You look exquisite." He hadn't ever seen her wear something like that, and part of him was hoping maybe she wore it for him. He finally let go of her hand, offering her his arm as a substitute. "Shall we?"

They arrived at the gala about a half hour late, but no one seemed to pay much mind. His eyes darted immediately across the room, focusing on his fellow hit wizards as well as some aurors he knew all dressed in suits. While was was happy to have this beautiful girl on his arm, he had to stay focused, aware of his surroundings. If there was going to be an attack, he was going to make sure Pansy was safe no questions asked.

He remained a bit tense, but looked down at Pansy, smiling warmly at her. "Is it too early to ask you to dance?"
