Who: Bill & Fleur
When: November 13th
Where: Gringotts
What: Finally bumping into each other & accidentally abusing Fleur
Rating: Idk. Low?
Status: In Progress

Bill loved his job. He worked at least six days a week and he never felt like he was there too much. There was always something to be doing, a new site to be researching, new wards to test... he had a fucking brilliant job. Bill was Gringott's top Cursebreaker and that came some some serious perks. He could travel the world, pick and choose what he wanted to do and he also had a pretty nice office.

Or it would be if he ever cleaned it. There was about a foot of parchment covered nearly every available inch of space on the old oak desk, stacks of books on the floor and piles of maps against all the walls. The shelf behind his desk housed an assortment of trinkets that he'd found at various digs around the world, along with a very large collection of leather journals that chronicled his travels since he was eighteen.

Sunday was generally his day off, but Bill decided it'd be best to go in to work for a few hours and attempt to clean his office. Mostly because there had been a strongly worded note stuck to his door about the clutter. So, dressed in a pair of his favorite leather pants, an oversized white button down shirt and his hair pulled back into a ponytail, Bill headed into Gringotts. The door to his office was wide open and Bill was in the process of tossing rubbish out into the corridor that he no longer needed.

Fleur didn't usually work on Sundays. In fact, she was rather cranky about being there in the first place. It wasn't that she disliked her job, she did really. It was nice to have people take her seriously every once and awhile. Plus, getting to go down into people's safes because they needed her to translate to one of the Goblins was actually very interesting. Sometimes she wondered why people kept things in there though. For instance, just last week she had seen a couple that kept a very old and disgusting painting of a man with a large nose. Who would need that, really?

She had caught a cold the previous week and was stuck in bed for a few days and so she needed to make up that time. The bank wasn't even open very late on Sundays, so she was busy doing things for her boss that were way below her level of intelligence.

She was currently carrying papers from his office to the reception area when she was hit with a book square in the side of the face. Wincing, she dropped all of her papers and sighed looking at the mess she had just made for herself. Kneeling down to begin picking them up, she started muttering her frustrations in french. In the midst of picking up her papers, she glanced over to the open door of the office to see who would be so rude as to throw a stinking book at her.

Sitting at a desk was none other than her ex-husband. Standing up with a large frown on her face, Fleur brushed some dust off of her pencil skirt and hmphed. "William. I am knowing I am no longer your wife. But is it really necessary to be tossing books at me?!"

Bill jumped up from his desk and rushed to Fleur's side. He might not have wanted to be married to her, but that didn't mean he threw a book at her on purpose. "Shite, Fleur. I'm sorry. That was an accident, I swear." Bill caught her chin with his hand and turned her face to examine the cheek he'd just tossed a book at. It was already red and Bill felt simply awful. It wouldn't be too hard to assume he'd done it intentionally.

Fleur moving back to London hadn't been a great moment for Bill. He'd rather she remained in France and they could've just continued on with their own lives. Having her around was a reminder that he failed and Bill Weasley hated to fail. "Want me to heal that? Wouldn't want it to bruise."

Fleur was surprised when Bill rushed to her side. Knowing him, he was probably trying to clean his office or something. Glancing around, she noticed several other discarded items lying in the corridor. Looking back at Bill while he still held her face, she smiled. "It's okay. You are cleaning out your office, oui?" He tended to get involved in things and forget the world existed around him.

The anger she had felt only moments before subsided and her shoulders visibly relaxed. Nodding, she moved her hand to touch her own cheek. "Zat will be best, I zeenk. I don't want you to be in the prophet for abusing your ex wife. You 'ave enough to deal with."

Truth be told, she was worried for him. While she didn't exactly keep up with most of the news that was around, she knew that these werewolf laws had to be frustrating for him. While he wasn't a full werewolf, these things still got to him most of the time. She would never admit it, but a part of her would always love Bill. She cared about how he was doing, and she was hoping that maybe one day they'd be able to be friends.

"That'd probably earn me a howler from Mum," Bill said with a small smirk. He turned and stepped to the side, allowing Fleur to walk into his office. He didn't often care what was reported about him, but he certainly didn't want people thinking he beat on women for fun. That was a line he wouldn't cross. Unless that woman was a Death Eater or someone trying to hurt his family.. but Fleur wasn't one of those people.

"Sit down," he said and pointed at a chair. Even if he was a little rough around the edges, Bill had a taste for fine antique furniture. The chairs in his office were some of his favorites, having found them at an estate sale following the war. He was an interesting man, to say the least. "What are you doing here on a Sunday? I thought I was the only person crazy enough to work all week long." Bill sat on the edge of his desk, facing Fleur and picked his wand up from his desk. "Push your hair out of the way," he suggested. A few months ago he would've done that for her, but now it didn't seem appropriate.

Fleur let herself seem vulnerable for a moment when she let herself laugh. Everyone knew that a howler from Molly Weasley was not something that you wanted. She stepped into his office and nodded when he told her to sit down.

Usually, Fleur was highly independent and didn't let people tell her what to do, but she always listened to Bill. He had this sort of power over her. She had truly loved the way he was so to the point and how aggressive he was. It was a major turn on. And to be honest, she missed the sex. Even towards the end of their relationship, it had still been great. Of course, that wasn't something you could solely base your relationship on and it certainly wouldn't keep it going forever.

She looked him as he studying her face and replied. "I was sick, so I am making up for ze lost time." She pulled her hair off of her face and gathered it to the back of her head, pinning it in a loose bun so that he could heal her cheek. For some reason, this felt way too intimate to be their first time seeing each other after the divorce, but she figured it was probably just her being silly. Clearing her throat, she smiled at him. "So, 'ow are you doing?"

"Right as rain," he said and contemplated which charm to use. Bill wasn't a Healer, but he'd learned enough from six siblings falling and hurting themselves and countless people getting hurt in tombs. But unless he was breaking a ward or creating one, Bill wasn't exactly delicate with his magic. He knew how important it'd be to Fleur that she didn't have a mark left on her face so he wanted to make sure to do it right the first time.

"Not like I have anything to complain about, really. People are just trying to convince the Ministry to take away my rights. Who'd be upset about a thing like that?" Bill might have sounded calm, but his blue eyes were flashing. He was not happy about what was going on within the Ministry lately. "Hold still," he said and cast a charm to remove the redness from her cheek, ensuring that she'd not have a bruise. Next he flicked his wand and cast a quick cooling charm to help with any swelling. "Better?"

Fleur didn't want any marks to be left on her cheek, but she remained silent knowing that Bill probably already knew that himself. It was strange being to close to him. To think that he was married again. It sort of broke her heart, you know, if she let that kind of thing upset her.

Frowning at his statement, her face wrinkled in thought. "Zat's what I meant. I'm sure zese last few weeks 'ave been especially 'ard for you and your wife. I am not knowing what the ministry is zinking." His wife. She said it, but it was still rather hard for her to wrap her head around. Had she really meant so little to him that he needed to be married again so soon? She didn't understand it. And if you would have told her a year ago she'd be divorced, she would've laughed in your face. She would have done anything for Bill. She would have given him to the world.

She remained still and felt the pain in her cheek subside, as he healed it and then an icy sensation ran over her. She closed her mouth and smile at him again before turning away from him blushing. "Oui, beaucoup mieux."

"You're welcome," he said and dropped his wand back on his desk. At least now if anyone suggested that he threw a book at her out of anger he'd be able to prove it was an accident. Either that or they'd say it was a ploy to get her into his office. Bill just shook his head. There was no winning.

"I don't think the Ministry is thinking, actually. Then again, it's not uncommon for them. They generally don't have the ability to see beyond the end of their nose."

Fleur nodded at his statement. "I agree. I don't zeenk they are being rational at all. I can only imagine what you 'ave 'ad to deal with lately. Do you-" Her eyebrows furrowed. She couldn't quite find the English word that she wanted to say and she had to stop to think for a moment. "Do you zeenk you will be-" Sighing she looked at her fingers, she didn't usually get nervous around people. "Fighting zem. Zat's what I mean."

"Yes. If it comes to that? Yes." Bill never had to worry if he was going to fight. It was just a matter of when he was going to fight and or he was going to fight. Wrongs needed to be righted and Bill was the sort of man who longed to correct those injustices. "I will not let all that we fought for before go spoiled because there are misguided people trying to ruin what had been fixed." Bill had to make things right again. He might not have been the best person to do it and he certain wasn't a leader, but he knew someone needed to step up and it was clear that no one else was volunteering.

Fleur shook her head. She didn't understand. Not the fact that Bill was going to fight, but the reason he had to in the first place. Hadn't they all fought against this kind of thing? Prejudice was supposed to be gone, not coming back tenfold. "If you-" She stopped for a moment before continuing, "If you need me to do anyzing. Please tell me, William."

It was true, he wasn't her husband anymore. But she understood what it was like to have a loved one be looked at differently because of something they didn't choose and it disgusted her. Why wouldn't people ever look on what was the inside? Sure, she was pretty but most people had no problem telling her that she was a nasty person. Why should it be different with someone that was attacked by a werewolf? Those people were sweet on the inside. Remus Lupin was one of the kindest men she had ever met. It just wasn't fair, and she had no idea how to fix it.

"I don't know where to start," he said honestly. "Before we had Dumbledore. We had Remus and Kingsley and now?" Bill shrugged his shoulders. His parents should have to live through another thing like this. They were older and tired and if anyone was going to step up and be the leader, Bill felt like maybe it should be him. He certainly didn't trust Harry to do it. Not at all. Not one fucking bit.

Bill felt a little odd talking to Fleur about this, but she'd been there through the last war. She understood what it took to fight and what people had to sometimes sacrifice. Like their faces. "What do I do?"

All these terrible times certainly gave Fleur a reason to find someone to help her get through it. Yes, Roger was a great friend but he was busy with his own life and his own significant and it seemed that she was really just making her life more complicated. Part of her wanted to move back to France, but the people there were just, well let's just say she understood why Bill left. And getting a divorce certainly didn't help any of them to look at her better.

Her brow furrowed as Bill talked about Dumbledore. They were certainly lacking in the direction that they used to have, but she had faith that if he wanted to do something about all of this he could. They had been through the first war together, had to live their first marriage in fear that one of the people they loved wouldn't be around anymore and now? Things were just as bad. It was in a different way, but still. She looked at Bill in the eyes. This was a hard subject and something he was seriously going to have to think about. "Well. 'ow do you feel about working for ze ministry?"

"And leave Gringotts?" Bill would do a lot of things for people. He'd move back to England. He'd tolerate being ignored and shunned. But quit his job? It defined Bill. He was the one thing he'd always loved. There was nothing in the world Bill loved more than his work and he knew that. Everyone knew that. Bill was a curse breaker. He didn't know any other life.

"I can't imagine not working here. It's who I am."

She knew Bill loved his job. Of course he did. It was probably one of the things that was most important to him, but it wasn't helping that everyone that was willing to go against the ministry quit it altogether.

"Well, I know zat. But sometimes, I zeenk it is easier to stop somezing from ze inside." She knew that was asking a lot and it probably wasn't going to happen, but it was just an idea. "Ze only other zing I can zink of would be to call a meeting to ze Order. My guess is zat none of zem are very 'appy about zis. Resistance is always better in numbers."

"What Order? There aren't any of us left. Nothing but a handful of children, most of them haven't seen anything outside the Final Battle. And they all seem to think they know everything, but they don't. Their leader is Harry and I don't trust that prat as far as I can throw him." Bill tugged his pony tail loose and ran his fingers through his hair. It was frustrating. There had to be something that could be done, but what?

And maybe Fleur had a point. Maybe being inside the Ministry would give them an advantage. It wouldn't be the first time he gave something up for the better good and he doubted it'd be the last. "I don't want their deaths to have been in vain. Fred, Remus, Tonks.. they died for a reason and now what?"

She nodded. He was right. The Order hardly existed anymore. But those "kids" that he was talking about certainly did a hell of a lot for the Wizarding World and it wasn't fair that he was undermining them like that. Sure, Harry had probably gone off the deep end- but the rest of them? His brother? His sister? They were good people. She knew that even now.

She needed remembering how hard those deaths were. "Zey did. And zats why we 'ave to do somezing. Zis cannot keep 'appening."

"I need to figure out why it's happening in the first place. I can understand Muggleborns being upset for what the Death Eaters did during the war, but they are attacking people who fought for their rights and freedom. That doesn't make any sense. And where did it start? Who at the Ministry is involved?"

Well, fuck. Now he was truly invested. Bill sat there going over different people he knew and who could be put into place where to obtain the best information. He needed to get moving on this. The fact that it took a conversation with Fleur to help him see what was needed pricked a thought in the back of his mind, but Bill ignored that for that. There were bigger, more important things to worry about.

"You're being careful, aren't you?"

Fleur nodded. There were certainly things that needed to be answered in order for him to truly understand what was going on. "Oui Zis is not making much sense I don't zeenk. Clearly someone in charge is not over ze whole war zing yet." She waved her hand nonchalantly before running it through her hair. This really didn't make much sense to her. The french ministry didn't have nearly as much power.

She looked over again to him when he asked a question. Her stomach flipped but she ignored it. Why did he care? At the same time, she'd be much more upset if he didn't at all. Looking down, she shrugged. "I'm. I don't zeenk I'm in much danger. I'm not one of ze pureblooded. La vraie question est, are YOU being careful William?"

"No, of course not." Bill didn't really know how to be careful. He had wards up around the house, but that was more to protect Lavender than to protect himself. If anyone did try to mess with him, Bill would give them one hell of a fight.

"Since when have I been careful?"

Fleur gave him a knowing smile and folded her arms across her chest. "I know, but you should be. For your family." She coughed a bit, still not completely over her cold and continued, "And your wife." She felt a small ache in her stomach, realizing that she never thought someone else would hold that position other than her. It hurt a lot. And to be honest, she was probably going to go into the bathroom to cry after this.

Glancing over at the clock in his office, Fleur realized that she probably should have taken these papers to her bosses office ages ago. She stood up from the chair she was sitting at and adjusted the skirt she was wearing before grabbing the papers that she set on Bill's desk. "I should- I should be going, William."

A small frown crossed Bill's face. He knew it couldn't be easy for Fleur to see him married to someone else. He didn't know what to do about it though. He and Lavender were married and that was that. Bill certainly wasn't going to tell Fleur it was because he was helping Lavender get her daughter. Regardless of the reasons behind his marriage to Lavender, Bill didn't love Fleur like that any longer.

Maybe Ginny had a point. He had interesting taste in women.

"Yeah, okay. Take care of yourself," he said. "And sorry again for the book in the face bit."
