Who: Everyone
What: Halloween Gala
When: Saturday night
Where: Park Lane - London - Asturbury Hotel
Status: In Progress
Rating: Try to keep it low - Remember the children!

The annual Halloween Gala was always a fun one. Costumes, candy and children. The ballroom was filled with all of them. There were fansy costumes, ornate and beautiful and then, of course, some bloke running around in a sheet, claiming to be a ghost. Kids were trick or treating at each table, laughing and having fun. It was a nice break from the horrid drama that had been plaguing wizarding society. Dinner, drinks and fun were offered. The costume contest for both children and adults was a highlight of the event. The reward? A three foot bag of candy from Honeydukes.

Music, food and dancing was essential and the decorations were stunning. Autumn leaves were enchanted fo fall from the sky, the smell of smokey fires and chocolate permeated the air. It was a fun gala. An event meant for all ages to enjoy. The money raised went entirely to the orphanage.

Mandy was tired. She was always tired lately and the fact that Roger was practically forcing her to come to this thing just made her grouchy. She'd been working so much, she hadn't even had time to really think of a costume. And honestly? She wasn't really into dressing up or anything like that. She thought it was silly and pointless. Still, it was for a good cause and she could use a little bit of a break. Her nerves, however, didn't agree with her. She wasn't into the spotlight business and that's what this would be. At least, until they got inside. It had taken her an hour to come up with a costume and it'd ended up being so ridiculously simple and easy, that she was glad she this was a casual affair. She'd gone digging through Roger's closet and pulled out one of his old Ravenclaw jerseys from school. A pair of shorts and a toy broom completed her outfit and she just shrugged. She was pale, tired and sick. If Roger was going to force her to go to this thing, well, he could deal with her lack of creativity.

Heading downstairs, she stared at Will, who looked at her and grinned. "Cute, Brocklehurst," he said, lounging on the sofa in his costume. Drinking a beer, and waiting for his friends, he yawned. Not really into this whole thing.

"Are you sure you should be wearing that around kids?" she asked, sitting down across from him, brow raised.

Will grinned and finished off his beer. "What? I thought you'd appreciate the historical reference to the Spartans," he said, scratching his stomach. "Besides. Women should get to see these."

Mandy rolled her eyes and leaned her head back against the chair, legs curled up under her, waiting for Roger to finish whatever it was he was doing so they could go and then come back. It had been a long, tiring week and she had too much on her mind to really enjoy this party.

Roger was really excited about tonight. He liked galas, especially the ones Mandy agreed to attend with him, and they’d finally reached a sort of middle ground regarding his public life and her need for privacy. Things were… much better than they’d been a few days ago. He felt a lot lighter. Like this was going to work out. He patted his breast pocket, something that was quickly becoming habit, making sure the little band of metal was still there. He hadn’t formed any sort of plan about asking Mandy yet and had no idea how he was going to do it, but he’d taken to always carrying it around with him. Pressed up against his heart, like tonight, or tucked into the little change pocket of his jeans. Just in case the moment came.

His costume had been Mandy’s idea, and while initially he’d turned his nose at it, it had grown on him. He hadn’t been keen on covering up half his face, seeing as it was so pretty, but it was sort of mysterious and showed off his mouth and it was pretty cool, actually. Plus he had a cape. The only thing he didn’t like was the cumberbund- and really, if you were an opera ghost who could kill people and whatnot why would you fuck with a cumberbund, but he didn’t grumble too much. He adjusted his Phantom mask one final time, then headed downstairs to meet Will and Mandy.

He broke into a grin as soon as he saw Mandy. That was pretty much the most awesome thing a girlfriend could wear for him. It was adorable and sweet and her boobs looked amazing. “Awesome,” he said, appreciating her for a long moment before wrapping her up in his cape and attacking her neck with kisses. “I will take you down to my sewer and make love to you in a boat.” Roger laughed when Mandy finally shoved him off and he turned to Will. “Gay, mate. Fucking gay.” He shook his head. “Alright, we ready for this nonsense and excitement?”

Mandy couldn't believe he was wearing that and she just shook her head, smiling as he came over and wrapped her in his cape. She laughed, batting him away. His lips tickled her neck and she stood up, sliding her arms around his waist, content to just lean against his chest for a bit. Mandy had a love affair with Gaston Leroux. She'd always loved the story and it amused her to no end that she was getting her very own Phantom for the night. "You look devastatingly handsome," she murmured, leaning up to kiss him lightly on the lips before resting her head against his chest. She could tell him later. Or never. She was probably wrong anyway. Muggle things were unreliable.

"Hey," will said, standing up, flexing his arm. "These muscles are going to get me laid tonight, thank you very much." He grinned at Mandy, who was staring at him from Roger's arms. "Besides," he said, burping. "I'm sexy."

"I can't believe you're wearing that out in public," Mandy said, shaking her head. "You're going to be attacked by every female over the age of thirteen." Mandy raised a brow, smiling. "Maybe you'll find some lovely, elderly society witch to take care of you and your alcoholism."

Will finished off his beer. "One can only hope," he said, feeling a slight pang of envy at the couple in front of him. Roger was lucky. His thoughts drifted to Lisa before pushing them away. Fuck. He needed to find his own place. Roger and Mandy were making him maudlin.

"I know, it's my burden to bear," Roger sighed, loving the feel of Mandy in his arms. It was almost so nice he didn't feel like going any more, but they had to. They could stay an hour and do the appearances thing and then get Mandy back home. She was still pale and tired but he couldn't get her to go to Mungo's. He was going to call his Healer if she didn't start looking better by the end of the weekend. "You feeling any better?" he asked, tipping up her chin with his fingers and meeting her gaze. "We won't stay long, I promise."

Roger glanced sideways at Will and shook his head. "I can practically see your dick right now, and I could do without seeing your dick all night. I really could. But I'll crash at Mandy's tonight then, just in case. Maybe Turpin has a thing for gay Spartans." Whatever the fuck Will was supposed to be.

He pulled his wand out of his pocket and adjusted his grip around Mandy, then clapped a hand on Will's bare shoulder, which just did not feel right. After a moment of Apparition, they arrived in the ballroom, and Roger smiled at all the candy and costumes and kids. "Oh, look, there's lots of little Quidditch players," he said, pointing. A couple of kids were dressed in Falcons jerseys, and some woman had even dressed up her baby as a golden snitch. "I should have just come as me."

His hand running circles on her back was actually very soothing. She liked it. However, it really just made her want to crawl back into bed and let him baby her for the rest of the night. She had to remind herself over and over that she'd signed on for these things the moment she told Roger she'd be with him. She loved him and didn't want anyone else but Merlin. She hated these events. His voice pulled her out of his thoughts and Mandy looked up, kissing the inside of his wrist. "I'm fine," she murmured, with a small smile. "I promise." Her arms felt heavy and it was so nice, just being wrapped up in Roger. "We can stay as long as you want."

Will just rolled his eyes at their lovey-dovey shite and sighed. "Hey," he said, crossing his arms over his chest. "My dick is awesome and not just anyone gets to see it," he said, grinning. "I hope she has a thing for sexy men in very little clothing."

Mandy just shook her head. "Still convinced they're going to ask you to put some clothes on," she said, turning so her back was against Roger's chest.

The arrival to the ballroom literally made her head spin and the nausea that she'd been fighting down all day did not stay down for long. Tearing off tot he loo, Mandy didn't spare anyone a glance.

"What the hell?" Will asked, watching Mandy push her way through the crowd. "Didn't know people could actually turn green." Gazing around the ballroom, he grinned at the snitch baby. "That is fucking awesome. Look," he said, pointing at two kids. "I like the beater bat and bludger."

Roger didn't quite believe Mandy when she said she was fine, but he couldn't tell if she really felt a little better or if she was just lying. He wasn't planning on staying too long, but he loved parties. However, when she tore off to the loo? He knew she was totally lying.

He frowned at Will and shrugged. "Yeah, she's been doing that. Flu or something but she says Mungo's won't do anything. She's been all stressed and I'm not even getting pies out of it. Or sex. I don't know what the fuck's going on. I'm taking her to get looked at tomorrow."

He followed Will's gaze to the Quidditch kids and laughed. "Sad I haven't seen a little me yet, but the hair's really hard to get right. I get that it'd be intimidating." Roger surveyed the room, checking out who'd shown up already. Lavender and Bill. They looked stupid. And the groupies had shown up, but they were still wearing more clothes than Will. "Huh," Roger whistled, impressed. "I think you still out-slutted the groupies. Congrats."

Sidestepping a kid who was hopped on too much sugar, Penny made her way further into the ballroom. It was packed with people, children milling about and weaving through the crowds. There were familiar faces here and there, features she recognised from Hogwarts, the shop or even the papers but a flash of blue caught her eyes as she spotted Mandy and then, following the direction her friend had come from, saw Roger and Will.

Moving through the crowds, Penny raised her voice in greeting. "Hello! I love your costumes! Roger you look positively dashing," and turning to Will she arched an eyebrow, hands smoothing down the fabric of her dress before adding. "Did you mean to turn up wearing leather nappies Will?"

"A lot, eh?" he asked eyes following her as she ran across the room. "The flu?" he asked, looking at Roger like he was daft. If Mandy had the flu, then Will was about to grow a pair of tits. "Right. The flu." He shook his head, grabbing a drink as the waiter passed by. "Well, maybe Mandy will give you a little you." He rolled his eyes and tried not to think about the implications of that.

Mandy spent a few minutes in the loo, emptying her stomach before she cleaned up and headed back to the ballroom. An elderly witch had patted her on the shoulder and smiled. That had really freaked Mandy out and she just left. It was rude but, well, she was a bit on edge. She headed towards Will and Roger, not really in the mood to talk to people she didn't know. Sliding up next to him, Will raised a brow but didn't say anything and she crossed her arms over her chest. "You look gorgeous, Penny!" Mandy said, giving her friend a quick hug.

Will just grinned. "I happen to like my leather nappies. Thank you very much. And if you're lucky, I'll take you home and let you rip them off of me and tell me what a bad boy I am."

Mandy groaned and shook her head. "Merlin..."

"Last couple of days, I'm not really sure. She didn't tell me she was sick til I was over there and she was throwing up all over the place." Roger arched an eyebrow when will looked at him like he was stupid. "What, I don't know if it's the flu or stress or she's growing a new set of tits. I'm not a fucking healer." He glanced at Will sideways at that last little comment, finally piecing together what Will was implying. "Don't be a fucking dick," he said, shaking his head. "It's too soon."

When Penny came over, he gave her a little bow and grinned, happy to end the conversation. "Thank you," he said, pulling Penny into a hug. "Agreed, gorgeous." He laughed at the nappies comment- because, well, it was accurate. And maybe Will needed someone to take the piss out of him. But then of course Will made that comment.

"Fucking gross, Will," Roger said. "I don't need to know about your weird fantasies."

Pennys smile as she spotted her friend making her way over was bright and large, leaning forward to envelop the other brunette in a tight embrace. Mandy was looking a little bit paler than normal though that could be down to nerves or just a simple case of being in a room with a lot of other people in their finery. Big do’s like this always made Penny feel a little apprehensive ; there was a recurring dream that she’d turn up to one of these events minus the back of her evening gown and over the years she’d developed a habit of smoothing her dress slightly over her frame to check that the excess fabric which kept her decent was still there.

‘Thankyou,’ giving a little twirl, Penny enjoyed the way the flare of the white gown. “Mandy you make the rest of us look overdressed in the best way.” Bloody hell, in those tiny shorts, her friend was basically all legs and a walking advertisement for quidditch calendars to exist. And they were really good legs too.

Wills comment would normally have her arching a brow but this time she turned and let her gaze run blatantly over his form, taking in the dips of his muscles. “Really William, I think you should keep your little Head Girl kink to yourself. Just because my old Hogwarts uniform fits and I’m capable of taking off your shorts with my teeth doesn’t mean I want to or I will.” Lifting the glass of champagne to her lips, she smiled at him over the lip. “You’ll have to get used to hearing the word ‘no’ William. Its character forming.”

Mandy smiled at Penny, looking down at her costume. Most of the women had gone the opposite route of her and had done something ornate and lovely. Mandy, however, had a limited number of dresses and the idea of spending the evening in heels hadn't really appealed to her. Trainers and shorts? Perfect. "It was quick and easy and if I have to be here," she said, shrugging, leaning against Roger. "Then I'm definitely going to be comfortable." Glancing around, she shook her head. "Besides," she said, pointing out the kids. "There's tons of Quidditch players here and I'm barely any taller than them. I fit right in." And, Roger liked the socks.

"You should go table to table and bring us back some candy," Will said, grinning. Mandy elbowed Will and he rubbed his ribs, glancing around for Turpin. He wasn't even sure if she was coming.

Penny always had a way of putting him in his place and at this point? Well, he didn't mind. It'd been years of back and forth so, really? He was used to it. Pointing to a cute little red head, the one from their party, he smiled. "She doesn't like to say no. Ever."

Mandy sighed and shook her head. "Really, Will," she murmured, wrinkling her nose. "We know how much the ladies love you. No need to brag about it."

"That's the spirit," Roger said, rolling his eyes, but he wrapped his hands around Mandy's waist. They hadn't had sex in forever and she knew what the socks did to him. Plus those little shorts. Evil. He smiled at Will's idea about the trick or treating. It really was a good idea. "Yeah, Mandy, if you're not baking, at least get us some candy."

But then Penny was saying dirty, un-Penny things, and Roger had to shut his mouth again when his jaw fell open. "God. Yeah, you two. Not allowed to say weird dirty things to each other at a kid's thing." And then Will was pointing to that familiar redhead, and Roger really couldn't remember whether she still had any clothes of his, so he grabbed Mandy's hand and started tugging her away.

"Dance with me," he said, pausing to drop a kiss on her neck. "I'm tired of looking at Will's nipples."

It was good to see Roger and Mandy together again, the comfortable way they were with one another and as she took another sip of her drink, Penny smiled. Maybe one day she’d write them into a dorothy novel, the childhood sweethearts who found one another after older boy realises he’d let a good thing slip out of his grasp. Changing their names, the background and some of the details and it could genuinely work. It was certainly worth thinking about.

Mandy looked effortlessly pretty in her outfit and Penny nodded her head. “You look wonderful.” And she really did, there were women going around wearing a lot less and still not looking half as classy as her friend. She always considered it a successful evening when she’d shocked Roger and with his mouth capable of catching flies, she had an inkling that she’d managed to do just that. “Would you prefer me to say them when there aren’t any children around?” As she took in the redhead, Penny snorted. The redhead looked like she wouldn’t say no to anyone, especially if they were famous or they had the right number of galleons.

“Great. You two go off and dance and leave me with the bloke in adult diapers and strange nipples. Lovely.”|

Mandy shot Roger a dirty look but rested the back of her head against Roger's chest. "I'm not going trick or treating," she said, shaking her head. Course, she was a little sad she hadn't been in the mood to bake. She loved making cookies decorated like pumpkins or bats. Usually, she made dozens and sent them over to the orphanage but she'd just been so busy this week and feeling under the weather? Well, that hadn't helped. Roger's lips tingled against her neck and she smiled at Penny. She felt oddly happy and content to be there with her friends. If Lisa would show up, that'd make it even better. "We're not leaving Penny to Will's leather diaper and creepy nipples," she said, amused.

Will looked affronted and looked down at his nipples. "There's nothing wrong with my nipples," he said, looking back up, grabbing another drink when he finished his first. A waiter stopped and presented a plat of cupcakes and he grabbed one and handed it to Mandy.

Taking a bite, she chewed and shrugged. "Not as good as mine," she said, amused. "But not bad." Mandy finished off the cupcake, the sugar and chocolate making her feel a little sick but she managed to hold it in. Turning to Roger, she looked at him. "Leaving Penny with the baby Spartan would be cruel. You know that."

Will just huffed and rolled his eyes. "I'd ask you to dance, Penny," Will said, grinning. "But I don't think you could handle my rippling pectorals."

"Why not? We're not his keepers. Not my fault Will wore a diaper." Roger grabbed a drink for himself and turned to Mandy. "You want anything, Mandy?" He stole a bite of her cupcake and kissed her cheek. "Nope, definitely not as good. It was very hard for him to keep his hands to himself, and dancing would have been a lovely excuse for his hands to wander around.

"Cruel is that little outfit," he murmured, brushing his lips against her hair. Fuck, he already just wanted to get her home. "Maybe you could come to the loo with me for a second. Penny'll be alright."

Roger laughed at the bit about Will's rippling muscles. "My pectorals beat your pectorals, fucker. And I think she's more concerned about your junk dangling around." He turned to Penny and shook his head. "Your outfits kind of go together though. Like you could be Helen and he's some little Spartan plebe."

“Really Roger, the bathroom? God I don’t even want to know what the two of you get up to so long as you wash your hands afterwards.” Rogers hands seemed inclined to wander and Penny had the feeling that she was very much a spare wheel. Cupcake theft, much, much worse than any public display of affection ever could be. And cuter too. Damn them both.

As Rogers lips roamed further, Penny rolled her eyes. “Oh for Merlins sake, would you take her into a dark corner and snog her so you get it out of your system, Davies.” It was that or the rest of the assembled people would be subjected to the mating ritual of one Roger Davies and there were impressionable children about. As much as she adored her best friend, there were somethings she didn’t want to know about him and him and Mandy was ah..certainly one of those things. Writing romance was all well and good, watching other peoples was sweet for about thirty seconds and then it was just a case of feeling like a gooseberry. “The only muscles you two should be concerned about is your brain instead of your pecs.”

With a shake of her head, Penny dismissed Rogers statement. “I am an Olympian goddess and Will and his not so dangerous rippling muscles and junks is Spartan Cannon Fodder number 34.”

Mandy turned bright red and looked away. She couldn't even look at Penny. The sheer amount of embarrassment that came over her had her complete mortified. Especially as her thoughts drifted back to dinner at Roger's mum's. Mandy pulled away and finished her cupcake. She didn't mind the bits of public displays of affection but she drew a line at talking about her sex life in public. Because, well, some things just needed to be sacred. Besides, she didn't need half of the wizarding U.K. to know what she'd been up to and where. "Just ignore him," she said, trying to keep a smile on her face. She wasn't at all surprised Roger's hands were roaming. They hadn't had sex since Sunday and while most people might not think that was a long time, well, for her and Roger it really was. She'd just been feeling so poorly...

"See what I have to live with Penny?" Will said, pathetically shaking his head. "Every day. It's like they can't keep their hands off each other. Did you know they actually have the audacity to cuddle in front of the telly?" Will shook his head. "Travesty, really."

Will grinned at Roger, noting Mandy's hesitance as she polished off another cupcake. "I like being cannon fodder number 34. And, they didn't really have cannons, Penny. More like... spear fodder number 34."

"I'm sorry, Mandy," Roger laughed, loving that blush, tugging after her when she tore away. He shook his head at Penny and grinned. Out of his system. Right. Like that were even possible. It might be easier if they'd had sex at some point this week and he weren't getting antsy, but Mandy just hadn't been feeling up to it, and then the thing with Fleur. "I wish it were that easy, Pen. But I'm going to get her to dance with me eventually. You might as well give in, Books."

He rolled his eyes at Will. "You know, you could have the audacity to get a job. Until then it's my telly."

Someone waving and calling his name caught Roger's attention, and he frowned. One of Quidditch Weekly's reporters. If it were the Prophet, he would have made an obscene gesture, but for a Quidditch magazine, he really ought to say hello and answer a few questions. "Gotta take care of this, spear fodder and Olympian goddess. Sexy girlfriend, would you like to come with, or keep babysitting William?"

“They cuddle in front of the tv? Oh William you poor dear. How do you manage to sneak in your redheads with them hogging one of the best snogging places in the flat?” Somehow, Penny managed to keep her face straight and her voice utterly serious. Had she known about the ‘drought’ Mandy and Roger were going through, there was every chance that she’d have cracked up. Five days was hardly a long time when for it had been well, a lot longer. Love for her friend had her not commenting on the flush creeping across Mandys face. One of these days, Roger would learn that embarrassing his girlfriend was not the way to get her to return his kisses and soft touches in public.

“Its a figure of speech William to indicate that the cannon fodder were simply nameless bodies.” Pennys voice was always a little snippy when she made corrections and taking the bull literally by the horns, she held out her hand and tried not to roll her eyes. “William, will you do me the honour dancing with me so these two can have a moment to themselves? Your rippling pectoral muscles, fearsome leather diaper and manly torso will surely be the highlight of my evening.” God, she was going to gag. Roger owed her and if Williams hands so much as wandered, she would have something to say about it. Loudly. Draining her champagne glass - the first, second? - she placed it nearby and smiled at the assembled group.

Mandy glanced back and forth between the reporters or standing on the side of the ballroom floor while Roger went to talk to reporters. She wasn't really in the mood to do either and her stomach was bothering her. "I think I'll just duck into the loo for a moment," she murmured, leaning up to kiss him lightly on the cheek. She glanced at Penny and Will, eyes narrowing at Will. "Don't be an arse."

Will only looked slightly affronted and she headed out of the ballroom, glad for a moment. The quiet would be really nice and watching Lavender Brown parade around with her new husband was mildly disgusting. The small sitting area just outside the woman's bathroom was rather decorative and she sat down on the rotunda sofa, needing a moment to calm herself. A harried young woman came over, two little girls on her heels and a baby dressed as snitch. "Oh thank goodness someone else is in here," she said, shoving the baby into Mandy's arms. "Could you hold him for a moment, love. I really need to get these two into the loo and ... well, you know." She gave her a friendly smile and ducked in.

Mandy didn't even have a chance to say anything. The little baby in her arms was... so tiny and so cute in it's snitch outfit. Biting her lip, the little face crinkled up as though he was about to cry. Mandy quietly cooed, walking back and forth with the baby. Not sure what she was supposed to do with a baby... Merlin. This was unreal. She wasn't supposed to be... no. She couldn't. Except, she was and.. Mandy felt tears prickle behind her eyes as she rocked the baby back and forth. This was so unfair. Roger wouldn't want this.

Thankfully the reporter only asked him generic questions, how was he doing after the injury, did he feel it would impact his next games, did he feel he could overcome this initial lurch in his stats. She asked a few questions about Mandy but Roger shut her down before she got too personal, and after a few minutes of talking he headed back to find Mandy. Will and Penny had already moved away to dance, and Mandy wasn't where they'd been standing earlier. Roger wandered around and found another drink, then moved back towards the loo, finally finding Mandy sitting on a sofa holding someone else's kid.

He smiled and crossed over to her. "How'd you end up with Snitch baby?" The baby wiggled and stretched his little arms out, and Roger picked him up out of Mandy's arms. "Hey Snitch baby," Roger said, tilting the baby from side to side while it laughed. "You should have been a Quaffle, but I bet that's your mum's fault. Tell her next year, though. Quaffle. And also, Pride. You need to be a Pride Quaffle."

He cradled the baby up against his chest, then frowned at the look on Mandy's face. "You alright?" Obviously, she wasn't. "We can go, Mandy. I've been seen and everything. We can go if you want to go."

Mandy quietly hummed to the little boy, feeling oddly content. She'd always liked kids and had done a fair amount of work with the orphanage when she could. She'd tutored younger students at Hogwarts and had always wanted to be a big sister. He was adorable and she smiled, realizing that maybe it wouldn't be so bad... Roger might- No. She wasn't going to think like that. She couldn't. It was early and it really could just be anything. There was no way she was pregnant. Mandy looked up when she saw Roger, smiling, lightly. "Hey," she said, looking down at the baby. "His mother or... whoever she was handed him off as she dragged to little girls to the loo." She looked back down at Snitch and smiled.

Mandy took Roger's glass as he took the baby from her. Leaning back, she crossed her legs, watching him with the infant. He looked surprisingly natural with him and something inside of her felt like it was about to burst. She worried her lower lip, watching him and the baby together. It was right. Roger would be a good father. A great father, really. He was attentive and kind and loving... And right now? Right now, Mandy wanted nothing more than to have his baby.

His question caught her off guard and she looked up, giving him a half smile. "Fine," she said, clearing her throat. Standing up, she reached out, pulling the Snitch's hood up. "He's cute." Her eyes flicked upward, meeting his gaze, tenderness and love filling her. "You look like a natural..." Part of her felt so guilty because he should be having this and soon. With Lavender. They didn't talk about it but she knew it had to be hard and she couldn't even begin to tell him about her suspicions.

Roger bounced the baby on his hip a little bit, talking to him about Quidditch, delighting every time he earned a laugh. "He is cute," Roger agreed. "Needs a little more hair. That's not going to get him the ladies." Roger laughed as the baby grabbed the nose of his mask and pried his little fingers away, only succeeding in having his finger held tightly.

Roger liked kids, liked babies. He'd adored Annie and taken care of her when she was little. It reminded him a little bit of what might have been with Lav, but he didn't let himself think about it too long. Everything happened for a reason. He had to have faith in that, or he couldn't live with himself for the... relief, he felt. He didn't want to be with her. She was a selfish bint with a selfish prick husband and Roger was thankful every day that he woke up next to Mandy and not next to that. But he was still sad, sometimes. Sometimes he wondered anyway, even if things were better now. Even knowing things would never have worked.

He glanced back over at Mandy, the intensity of her gaze a little unnerving. "What?" he asked uncertainly, smiling at her. "Did he spit up on me or something?"

It was really easy for Mandy to get lost in the moment. Watching Roger with a baby was a bit surreal. She watched the emotions play across his face as he played with the little boy. There was sadness and regret and what looked like a touch of relief. She worried her lower lip between her teeth, hoping that he'd be okay. She knew, that while he might not want to be with Lavender, he'd always regret the way things ended and the things that were said between them. A knot of tension and her own guilt welled up inside of her. She'd played a downfall in that and she really hated herself for it. The idea that she could've contributed to the loss of Roger's child? It literally made her ache and she couldn't wrap her mind around it. It was too much. Her hands went to settle on her abdomen but she quickly crossed them over her chest, trying to keep from making Roger too suspicious. She wasn't ready for the conversation and she wasn't even sure. No sense in both of them worrying.

Smiling Mandy tilted her head, watching them together. It was different, to say the least. "I think he'll get around to having some hair," she said, watching the baby wave Roger's finger back and forth. The little boy reached for her hair, tugging on a stray strand and began to fuss. Reaching out, Mandy took the baby back and rubbed soothing circles, quieting the baby. She gave Roger a small smile, really wanting to ask him what he'd like to have when he had children but she was afraid it'd be too painful to discuss. "It's nothing," she said, looking at Roger. "Really... it was just strange seeing you with a baby. I've never seen you with one and you were surprisingly good with him."

"Oh thank you!" the woman said, pulling the two little girls behind her, taking the baby out of Mandy's arms. Mandy had a momentary sense of loss but she smiled and moved closer to Roger. "Three can be a handful," she said, looking down at her daughters. "Twins and a baby? It's exhausting! But thank you so much!" The young woman smiled at Roger while the little girls stared and whispered at each other. One was dressed in a Katie Bell jersey and the other was wearing a Roger Davies one.

Mandy smiled and nudged Roger. "You've got a fan," she murmured, sliding her arm around his waist.

"Hopefully," Roger agreed. "You're gonna be a real lady killer with some hair. Don't ever let your mum cut it, though. And next year. Quaffle." Mandy took the baby and Roger finally had a free finger. She looked... it was weird looking at Mandy with a baby, now that she'd mentioned it. But she looked pretty. Especially holding a baby that looked like a Snitch. That was pretty awesome.

He smiled at her and shrugged. "I get to hold a lot for pictures, and Annie was little once. I like kids." He turned and smiled at the mother. "Twins, wow." He couldn't imagine two kids all at once. "But cute kids. And great costumes." When Mandy nudged him and pointed out the jersey numbers, he grinned. "Hey, you're me, that's awesome." He turned to mini-Katie and felt a little weird- Katie wasn't here, and he still hadn't seen her since, well, everything had happened. "And Katie's one of my best friends, so you both have the best costumes as far as I'm concerned."

He leaned down and shook their hands, and the little girl in his jersey blushed and turned her head.

Mandy watched them interact, head slightly tilted as she studied them. It was so strange to see him like that. Not that he didn't look perfect but that it could be them in a few months time. She rubbed her temples, knowing she'd have to tell him... somehow. Mandy knew Roger and she knew that he wasn't ready for kids. He wasn't ready for the baby that Lavender lost and she knew for a fact that there was no way he'd be ready for this. It was entirely too soon and that was so unfair to him. She felt like a horrible person. This wasn't right but at the same time? She'd always pictured her life with him. Just, well, kids? Not so soon.

The little girls started talking about Katie and Roger and Marcus and they were listing off stats like little pro's. Mandy just smiled, watching them. Merlin. She was probably pregnant... She should probably stop lying to herself. But she wasn't ready for that yet.

"They're quite a handful," the woman said, running a hand through the little girl's hair. They weren't identical but they favored one another a lot. "Come on, loves," she said, scooting them away. "Leave Mr. Davies alone!" She turned to Roger and smiled. "Thank you so much for talking with them. And thank you for holding Thomas. I really appreciate it."

Mandy just smiled and waved, watching the family of four walk away. She didn't even notice she was chewing on her thumbnail as she watched them, so lost in thought over everything that was about to change.

Roger smiled as the kids went off and wrapped his arms around Mandy's waist, stealing a kiss against her neck. Some kid had actually dressed up as him for Halloween. It was really weird, even for him. It had to be weirder for Mandy, and he kind of got the way she felt now."I hope being the girlfriend of a super awesome famous Quidditch player isn't too terrible for you." he said, pulling back and catching her hand within his.

"Promise me if we ever have a kid we can dress him up like a Snitch. But not just at Halloween. Every holiday. He can be a Christmas Snitch, Easter Snitch. Until he's like, five. It'll be awesome." He turned and watched the little girls trick-or-treating and shook his head. "Twins. Can you imagine."

He smiled and turned back to Mandy, batting away the hand she was chewing on so he could brush a kiss against her cheek. "Come on. Dance with me already. I want an excuse to hold you."

Mandy just smiled at his comment and shook her head. It wasn't so bad right now but it was about to get worse and she wasn't so sure she had the stomach to weather it. Looking at Roger, she quietly studied him for a moment before linking her fingers with his. "It has it's moments," she lied, smiling. The truth was, she hated it and had a feeling she'd never like it. She'd always been private but this was Roger and she'd do anything to be with him. They finally had a real chance and she wasn't going to let him go that easily. She'd left him without much of an explanation the first time around and had barely recovered and then she'd almost lost out for good. Part of her thought they might have a chance in the future. Her thoughts drifted to Lavender and she let out a shaky sigh, the emotion of the whole situation overwhelming her. She'd almost lost him for good and that made her ill.

Pulled out of her thoughts, her eyes widened and she had to keep her hands from settling on her abdomen. "Oh. Right. Yes- sure," she said, nodding. "That'd be cute." Her eyes followed his, watching the twins run around and she shook her head, unable to deal with the idea of twins. She had twins in her family. Her grandmother and great-aunt were fraternal twins. And then her great-grandmother was a twin as well. "Twins run in my family," she said, absently. "I don't know how parents handle it."

Still a little lost in her own thoughts, she barely heard him and looked up, smiling. "You really need an excuse?" she asked, stepping into his arms. "Alright," she murmured. She liked dancing with Roger. It was always nice to have him hold her and surround her. She let him lead her out to the dance floor, feeling a bit silly dancing with him in shorts. Settling her arms around his neck, she rested her head on his chest. "It's not so bad," she murmured, looking up at him. "Being the girlfriend of a super awesome Quidditch star."

Roger smiled. It had its moments like this, where he got to hold the prettiest girl in the room and tell everyone she was his. He didn't care what she was wearing. He just cared that she was here. "Lately, yeah," he said, arching an eyebrow as she settled into his arms. "It seems like I do need one. Like you're miles away. Wrapped up somewhere I can't follow you."

He tugged her closer and didn't let his hands wander, which was really hard, seeing as she was wearing tiny shorts. Instead he just reveled in having her close to him, pressing kisses against her hair. "I love you, Mandy," he murmured, forgetting anyone else in the world was there in the room but her. "So much."

He grinned when she said it wasn't so bad, and he felt a weird twinge of panic, like this was his moment. He could just pull it out of his pocket and put it on her finger. He could kiss her and ask if she wouldn't be his girlfriend anymore. Ask her to make him happy for the rest of his life. But... that wasn't Mandy. It was too public. And while he wanted the world to know how much he loved her, that he wanted her forever, she wouldn't. And he wanted a few quiet moments with her, before the reporters caught on and started taking pictures. He wanted a moment for them, not for everyone else. So he would wait, and have to ignore the phantom weight of the ring in his pocket.

"I knew you'd come around," he said instead, dipping down to brush a kiss against her lips.

"I'm sorry," she said, biting her bottom lip. "Just had a lot on my mind and haven't been feeling well..." Like he didn't know all of that but she wasn't so sure she wanted to explain exactly what it was on her mind. It wasn't like she could just tell him that she might be pregnant and he'd be okay with that. It was easier to blame work and push it off on that. She hated lying to him and this was something she wouldn't be able to hide for long if she was. Sighing, she wanted to cry with frustration. Instead, she gave him a smile, though, it didn't quite meet her eyes. "You know how much I enjoy thinking."

It always warmed her heart when he told her he loved her. She wasn't sure why but it just made her so happy inside. "I love you, too," she murmured, sliding her arms tightly around his neck, just wanting to be close to him. If he'd just take her home and let her curl up next to him... that'd be lovely. Perfectly and wonderfully lovely.

"It's not exactly like I have a track record of being able to say no to you for too long," she said, returning his kiss. Mandy had a hard time saying no to him when he wanted to spend time with her. It wasn't like she didn't want to spend time with him. She just preferred it in a more intimate setting that didn't involve a lot of people standing around and staring at them.

On days like this, when the kids were allowed to go to the gala's, Lavender was usually given permission to take Julie for the day. However, with the werewolf laws being brought to the Wizengamot soon and everyone up in arms about the laws and her interaction with children, Lavender was getting less and less time with the little girl. She'd been allowed to go to the orphanage today to volunteer her time with the kids, who all wanted to go to the costume gala. Costumes needed to be charmed smaller and it seemed the orphanage was short staffed today. Most of the kids wanted to be Quidditch players. They had more then enough to fill three full Quidditch teams. Most wanted to be Falcons or Puddlemere players, which was just adorable to see so many little kids running around, pretending to be Marcus, Clint and Katie. Julie, however, wanted to be a princess. They had a store of donated clothes, most of which Lavender recognized as her own, or Pansy's. Dressed in a little gold dress, Julie picked a bright pink comb from one of the baby doll toys and Lavender transformed it into a bright pink tiara.

The kids all looked adorable, and once they were all dressed, Lavender returned back to Shell Cottage to dress for herself. She and Bill had coordinated their outfits and as far as she was concerned, they looked fantastic. Once dressed, they left for the hotel where the gala was being held. Lavender loved these things, she loved getting dressed and going out. Taking her new husbands hand and linking their fingers, Lav went into the ballroom, smiling at how pretty everything was and how adorable the kids were, going around to the tables to collect candy.

With his hand intertwined with Lavender's, Bill walked into the ballroom with a small smirk on his face. He wasn't generally one for fancy parties, but Lavender had seemed so excited about the idea. And it would help her if people saw them out acting as a real married couple. Not that it was too terribly difficult to act like a married couple with Lavender. She didn't make any demands, didn't whine or complain when he was at work late and generally made him smile when he was home.

"Can I get your a drink, Mrs. Weasley?"

"I would love a drink, Mr. Weasley." Lavender grinned up at her husband and gave up his hand so he could go and get them a drink. She was going to find a table to put down her clutch.

As soon as she had found a table, Julie spotted her and came over, the curls in her hair bouncing as she skipped. That child was so cute and immediately brought a smile to Lavender's face. "You having fun?" The six year old nodded and climbed into Lav's lap.

Bill had procured two glasses of.. something. It smelled like cider, but it was smoking and served in goblets that looked like small cauldrons. As he wove his way back through the crowds to find Lavender, Bill eventually located her at a table with a little girl in her lap. He assumed this was the Julie that Lavender was always talking about.

Setting the drinks down on the table, Bill knelt down in front of the girls and smiled. "Hi Julie," he said. "My name is Bill. I have a big problem and I was hoping you could help me with it."

Lavender had wrapped her arms around Julie, keeping her close for a little while, while at the same time, helping her to unwrap some candy. She'd collected a good amount already, most of which seemed to come off of Lavender's table. She just couldn't say no and kept putting pieces into the bucket that Julie was carrying around.

When Bill came back, Lavender grinned again. She really did like him. It was so easy just to be around him, and, yeah, it felt right. There certainly wasn't love, but it would have been easy to love him, if the time was right.

Julie gave a little smile. She liked meeting new people and Lavender was always introducing her to someone. All Lavender could hope for was that she wouldn't ask Bill what Quidditch team he was on, as the only men she had introduced Julie to were Marcus and Roger.

"Hi, Bill." She was acting shy, which made Lavender laugh. Julie was not a shy child. But when Bill asked for her help, she brightened up and nodded. "What kind of help?"

Pansy was excited for the gala. She loved any chance to be seen out in public, and her costume tonight? She was definitely going to make a splash. It was also a welcome relief from all the pureblood stuff going on. For once, she felt safe among friends and acquaintances, happy to go somewhere that wasn't work or her flat.

She adjusted the hood of her red cape and smiled as she entered the ballroom, carrying a little picnic basket filled with candy for the children. She paused in the entryway, surveying the room. It was delightful to see so many of the children in her old gowns, a room full of tiny, stylish little girls. There was even a little girl in a pair of Pansy's old heels- charmed so she could walk in them, they were hardly stiletto length, but the sparkly shoes were adorable and fierce. It made Pansy almost wish for a daughter to play dress-up with. Or... no. If she ever got the urge Marcus had a kid now. She didn't need a full-time kid. She didn't have time for that.

The usual partygoers- a few Quidditch players, most of the society people. Of course Brown and her Weasley, because heaven forbid she pass up an opportunity to be seen in public, despite most of the public loathing her. Pansy rolled her eyes, but smiled and waved as little Julie spotted her. Then Pansy moved further into the crowd, looking for Daphne or any of the other Slytherins.

Oliver didn't know how Penny had talked him into coming to this thing, but after five minutes in the door he was already miserable. A reporter had spotted him instantly and Oliver had to (not so politely) tell them to bugger off. He didn't want to talk about what had happened, he didn't want to talk about leaving the league and he didn't want to talk about much of anything.

Turning to get a drink, Oliver brushed past a witch dressed in a red cloak and knocked the basket she was carrying out of her hand. He stopped immediately and knelt to scoop up the candy that had fallen from it back up. "Sorry about that," he said as handfuls of candy went back into the basket. Standing up again, Oliver handed the basket back to the witch. "When my feet are on the ground I'm not much use to anyone."

Pansy's hood fell back as she knelt to shove candy back in the basket, a scowl marring her face. "Obviously not," she agreed, standing back up and adjusting her dress. She finally looked at the person who had knocked into her and her expression softened. She didn't really know who he was or recall his name, but she knew his face from the papers. He was one of the ones taken by that group. That awful group that had Pansy terrified, despite all her bravada.

"It's fine," she said quickly, waving a hand. She couldn't help that her eyes were roaming his face, looking for... something. Some sort of damage, maybe. She pulled her gaze away and was about to head off in the opposite direction, away from clumsy people, but there was a long crack in the handle where the basket had fallen. "Oh, damn," she said, frowning, reaching into her cloak pocket for her wand.

Kyra was a little apprehensive about attending the gala. She didn't have many friends these days and there didn't seem to be much reason to bother attending an event where she was sure to be bored. But Penny was going and Kyra knew it'd be better than sitting home alone and moping. She needed to start her life over, even if it was turning out to be the hardest thing she'd ever done.

It was far too crowded to even bother trying to find Penny and Kyra didn't want to be totally dependent on her. So instead she lingered against a wall, looking hopelessly bored and out of place. She would stay for an hour and if she wasn't having fun by then, she'd go home and to bed. Merlin. She was pathetic.

Astoria was more than excited to go to the gala that night. She had really wanted to do something where she was around other people other than Daphne. Not that she was hard to be around, she just hadn't seen much of anyone but her sister, Clint, Marcus on occasion, and her cat. It wasn't that she disliked living with them, but she missed her house and having her own space and being able to go out when are where she wanted to.

Getting ready was something that Astoria really enjoyed. She wasn't usually one to fuss with herself for too long, but today of course she would. She sat in a silk robe in front of Daphne's vanity, using charms to apply her make-up. Swiftly, she charmed her hair up and then placed a gold headband around her head that was to be her halo. Of course going as an angel was somewhat cliche, but she had the perfect dress and she was excited to use it.

Finally, she stood up and discarded her robe, pulling on her white dress and wings and grabbing her clutch that was magically enlarged on the inside. Standing at the door she look in the mirror once more and waited for her escort to arrive. This was silly, but she wouldn't be allowed to leave alone and considering the fact that tonight would certainly be a night to target purebloods.

Adrian felt bad for neglecting his friends, so many of his free hours were spent with his mum and helping her. As time passed, she faded further and further from reality and Adrian despaired of one day losing her. Between the Falcons and his family, Adrian wished he could find more time for his favorite people. Astoria was one of the easiest to talk to and he had been actually looking forward to the evening.

Dressed in a very understated tailoured black suit, he had added a pair of horns and wore a smirk. Lucifer, out to tempt his pretty little angel. He knocked on the door a few minutes late, his smile apologetic and a single rose in his hand for his date. She wasn't allowed out alone after the way purebloods were being targeted and he wondered if Clint or Marcus were going to object to his escorting her.

"Hello." He said when he caught sight of her standing just inside of the door. "My apologies for being late." He held out the rose to her and smiled. "You look beautiful tonight." It sounded almost cheesy but it was true.

Astoria was excited to go out with Adrian. He had always been so nice to her, and handsome. Of course, it seemed that most of the men in her life were handsome. Still, she thought he'd be nice to photograph or draw. It had taken some convincing for her to be able to leave with Adrian alone, but her protectors would surely be at the gala and there would be children around for goodness sake! Astoria was never one to make a spectacle of herself and she certainly wouldn't be starting now.

She opened the door to him and smiled, stepping outside to greet him. "Hello," she smiled at him. He was in a suit, but it was perfect and he looked handsome. "You are hardly late." She took the rose from his hand and blushed at his compliment, smoothing out her dress before she looked back up at him. "Thank you. You look nice as well."

Closing the door behind her, she put out her hand for him to take. "Shall we?" They apparated moments later. As they entered the ballroom, Astoria smiled at the decor. "It's lovely." Her eyes flickered over the falling leaves and all of the children. They were adorable and she was happy to be out of the house. Turning to her escort, she looked down before speaking. "Thank you for taking me, Adrian. You are such a gentleman."

With hardly any leads on the case he was working on, Wayne was finally able to be out of the house for a night. He was excited to go to the Gala with his best friend and see all of the kids. Wayne loved children and he loved to be goofy and sometimes his job didn't allow for things like that. Having a night off was more than welcomed.

He decided to go as a jedi and though not everyone in the wizarding community would understand his ensemble, he thought he looked pretty bad ass either way. Those movies were practically his childhood, damnit.

He apparated to the venue and stepped inside. He told Eloise he'd meet her there since he had so much to do before, but he was excited to see her all the same. Entering the large room he looked around and took in all of the people in their costumes already. Walking over to the bar, he ordered a firewhiskey and leaned against it, trying to see if he could spot Eloise somewhere in the room.

Eloise had spent a painstaking amount of time on her costume. She'd decided on an Autumn fairy. Mostly because it gave her a reason to paint and make things. She always made her costume. Her closet had a collection of hand-made outfits that she'd come up with. This year, though, the fairy was her favorite. Stepping inside, she immediately felt at home. The decorations were perfect and she was excited to get to spend the evening with Wayne. Things had been a bit odd with Augie lately and she wasn't so sure where they stood anymore but being with Wayne for a night? Well, it'd be brilliant!

Making her way through the ballroom, she spotted Wayne by the bar and headed over, tapping him on the shoulder. "Hi!" she said, cheerfully, leaning over to give him a hug. "I really feel that you should've been able to find me with your Jedi mind powers. I'm a bit disappointed in you, Wayne!"

Eloise ordered a drink. Nothing too heavy, just a glass of champagne and sipped on the bubbly wine. "Look at all these costumes!" she exclaimed, looking around. She waved to Lavender Brown and Roger Davies. Though, she wasn't so sure Roger noticed her. He was busy talking with Mandy. "The kids look adorable! How fun!"

Wayne felt a small hand tap on his shoulder and he turned to look at Eloise. "Hey!" He smiled brightly at her before pulling her into a bear hug. Stepping back to admire her outfit, he grinned "Beautiful as always. How long did this take you to make?" The detail in her costume was incredible and he had no idea how she hadn't become famous already from her artistry. Fuck. If he tried to make anything like that it would just end up looking like a huge blob. Embarrassing.

He chuckled at her joke, "I'm sorry. I'm a little rusty." He let her step past him as he ordered a drink. Grabbing his firewhiskey, he offered his arm to Eloise and escorted them to a table. "Everyone look's brilliant." He was happy she was so excited and it was nice to see his best friend after being so busy at work all of the time. He waved at a few people he knew before pointing to a table and beckoning Eloise to sit down.

"It's crazy how many kids are dressed as quidditch players right now." Taking a sip of his drink, he swallowed hard and glanced around the room. They really outdid themselves. This Gala was beautiful, though he suspected there wouldn't be much foul play with so many children around. He was happy he was here and even happier it was with Eloise. Birds could be more of a burden than they could be fun, but he always enjoyed Elle's company. She was so sweet and always had some interesting thing to say.

"So. Tell me how you've been. I'm sorry I've been so busy lately."

Fleur entered the ballroom and almost everyone's head turned instantaneously. Strutting into the room, she glanced around for someone she would know but hadn't seen anyone right away. She was on the arm of an old man that she didn't know very well but she ignored that. What's-his-name was on the wizengamot and was entirely too infatuated with her breasts. Plus, he was constantly stuttering and she was already bothered with him. Eventually they were spotted by others and he had gotten tied up in conversation with someone else important and that left Fleur headed straight to the bar.

Before she got there though, she was stopped by a little boy dressed as a quidditch player who held out a flower sheepishly at her. Bending down and smiling, she took it from him. "Why zank you petit garçon. Zis is a very nice zing to be giving me." Moving her hand to the side of his face she looked at him seriously, "You always give flowers to the women you love. Being such a gentleman will be very good for special moments. Your mother should be proud you are so smart for being so young." The boy nodded and she adjusted the collar of his costume before kissing him on the cheek. He blushed and ran away from her quickly to go tell his friends. Smiling to herself, Fleur spotted a table and sat down. She was bored already.
