Kyra Budy had not slept in an empty bed since the night she first stayed over with AJ before they were married. Even after they divorced she'd had Sadie in the bed with her for company. As she clipped the leash, Kyra fought to keep herself from crying. Being upset over a dog was foolish, but that didn't make it hurt any less. Sadie had been there for her whenever AJ wasn't. The dog was faithful and loving and always affectionate. She was every AJ hadn't been and now Kyra was preparing to give her only companion to her exhusband. Which meant that following the exchange, Kyra would be alone.

Taking a deep breath, Kyra led the dog outside and grabbed her bag on the way. She stuck out her wand, watched the Knight Bus appear moments later. Climbing on board, Kyra gave the address of AJ's flat and sat down, petting the dog's head and trying not to have a breakdown while a very ugly wizard was staring at her.

The ride didn't take too long. She arrived outside AJ's building and took a deep breath, praying this went relativity well. Pausing for a moment to crouch down and hug Sadie once more, Kyra walked inside the building and to AJ's door. She knocked, steeling her spine for a likely awful encounter with her ex.

Augustus had actually gotten off of work decently early that night. While he had brought some of his paperwork home with him, it was still nice to be out of the hospital so early. As soon as he got home, he hopped in the shower to rinse off. AJ took showers at least two times a day, sometimes three even, it just felt better that way. His flat was nice, but admittedly he missed his house. It was his before he even met Kyra really, why would someone that hates being alone like a house that was that big? He shook it out of his mind. He was going to try to be civil tonight.

After all, Kyra was bringing Sadie today. He really didn't want to see her in the slightest, but honestly if that meant he got his dog back he was just going to have to deal with it.

He shut off the shower by pressing the faucet and pushed his hand out of the shower, snatching a towel that was hanging next to it and using it to wipe off his face. He then wrapped it around his waist and stepped out of the shower. Heading to where his room was, AJ opened the dresser and put on a pair of boxers, sweatpants, and a plain white t-shirt (his usual sleep attire.) He was exhausted and wasn't planning on staying up much longer than he had to.

He heard a knock on his door and immediately straightened his posture, becoming even more stiff, if that was possible. He opened the door and saw the short blonde standing there with Sadie. He dropped to his knees instantaneously, placing his hands on behind either of Sadie's ears and began rubbing. "Hey girl! Hey Sade!" Sadie's tale was wagging ferociously and she was jumping at him and licking his face since she hadn't seen him in so long, though she usually got that excited anyhow, "Who's a good girl? Who's my baby? Sit Sadie. Good girl." He kissed the dog on the cheek a few more times before standing up and looking at Kyra. He scratched his head and stepped aside signaling her that it was alright to come him. "Hello Kyra."

It was hard not to be hurt over how excited AJ was to see the dog while he barely looked at her. He'd loved the dog more than he ever loved her and losing her hadn't seemed to matter to him. Sure he was angry, but she suspected it was because she was living in his house rather than because she left. If she'd simply moved out, Kyra didn't think AJ would've even noticed.

"Hello," she said and reached to undo the leash, allowing Sadie to run into his flat. She wasn't going to stay long. There was a vial of sleeping potion back home for her to take and pray that she managed to sleep at all. Somehow she doubted she could.

Stepping inside, Kyra remained near the door. It was obvious that they both wanted this to be over with so she wasn't going to linger. "I took her to the vet last week for her checkup and she's had her shots for the year."

It wasn't like Augustus was purposely rude to Kyra, but he just couldn't help it she just peeved him without really even trying anymore.

He watched as Sadie ran about his flat in circles. It worked because there really wasn't much furniture in there. He already felt better about it seeing Sadie running in the living room.

He turned to Kyra who was still standing by the door looking rather uncomfortable. "That's good. Do you need me to reimburse you for anything?" He was used to handing out money at this point, he figured he might as well ask now.

"No," she said. "She's.. she was my dog, too. I don't mind paying her vet bills." The least he could do was acknowledge what she was giving up, but Kyra very much doubted he had the ability to see her as anything but a whore. So be it.

Reaching into her bag, Kyra pulled out a thick envelope. It contained all of the vet records, vaccinations and anything else she had in the file pertaining to Sadie. "Here," she said and passed it to AJ. "If you want to use the same vet we had back home they know to contact you from now on. If you want someone in London they included a list of recommendations."

Kyra turned her attention to Sadie and worried that she was going to start crying right in front of her ex. Which would give him far more reason to call her crazy, not that he needed much reason in the first place.

Her voice was thick when she spoke again. "I, um, just had her to the groomers too. I know you're busy and.. um.. she needed to go. And if you're ever too busy and.. I could come by. Maybe visit her a little?" She truly didn't expect AJ to say yes. Why would he? He hated her to the end of the world.

"Right." Augustus really just wanted her to get the hell out of his flat. It wasn't his fault he disliked her so much, it was just this reaction he got when he was around her.

He took the envelope from her, opening it and looking down inside but not bother to actually take anything out of it just yet. Of course he would go over all of it later but not with Kyra around. Personally, he didn't want to give her a reason to stay.

Sadie ran up to both of them and sat, with her tail still wagging. It must've been ages since all three of them were in the same room together (not fighting) and the pup was happy about it. Augustus knelt down again and looked at Sadie, "Lay down girl." The dog obliged and laid down, as Augustus began rubbing it's stomach. He looked up at Kyra who seemed pretty upset, but he didn't acknowledge her. "That's good. She looks good." Staying on the floor, he spoke again, "I'm sure she'll miss you. It would probably be better for her if you visit." While it wasn't the sweetest thing he's ever said, at least he was trying. Eloise would've told him to be nicer and he was really trying to take her advice here.

"Really!?" The surprise on Kyra's face and in her voice couldn't be hidden. For months now he'd been a jerk to her, not that she'd been any nicer to him. And it did make Kyra sad to know that a man she once loved was now someone she screamed at, bickered with and secretly wished he moved to France. "AJ, thank you. Really."

It was time for her to go. Lingering any longer was going to start a fight and she didn't want to risk never seeing Sadie again. Kyra carefully knelt down and lightly petted the dog's head. "I'm going to miss you, sweetheart." Her eyes were watery, but Kyra refused to cry in front of her ex. She gave a watery laugh when Sadie got up and licked her face. Kyra wrapped her arms around the sweet dog and hugged her tightly. "Be good for your dad, okay? And I promise I'll see you again." Sadie gave a little bark in return and Kyra quickly stood up, anxious to leave.

"If you.." Her voice cracked and Kyra quickly swallowed, trying to cover it up. "You know how to reach me," she said and pulled a pair of sunglasses from her purse, slipping them on. Her walls came back up, not wanting to show any emotion in front of this man. "I'm sorry I kept her for so long," she finally said.

Kyra was entirely too easily impressed, but he didn't say much about her mood changing. Sadie was really a great dog, he'd had to admit that. Scratching his head again, his eyes shifted over to the clock on the wall. "Er. Yea it's no problem."

He watched awkwardly as Kyra hugged the dog goodbye, not really wanting to be a part of that. Especially since he knew she probably wanted to cry and he was done with that.

"Yea." He didn't have much to say to her, but he would probably just get her through owl. He relaxed a bit seeing her put on her sunglasses, knowing that mean she'd be leaving soon. Looking down at her when she apologised, AJ gave no sign of feeling sorry for her. He simply shrugged. "It is what it is."

"Okay, then," she said and turned to leave. It was pointless to stay there any longer. Kyra wanted to go home and adjust to being alone and she was certain AJ wanted to spend time with their dog. Except it wasn't their dog any longer. Even if the divorce had been finalized for a few months, returning Sadie really made it seem real. Her marriage was over. She'd gone into it with such hope and excitement, but how quickly that had changed.

"Goodbye, AJ," Kyra said and adjusted the purse on her shoulder. There were more things to say, but Kyra didn't bother. Augustus Pye was never going to have a discussion with her about how or why their marriage failed. In his eyes she was the only one at fault and nothing she said was going to change his mind. With one last look at Sadie, Kyra let herself out of AJ's flat. She exited his building and apparated back home to her empty, cold house.

Fuck, she hated her life.
