WHO: Augustus Pye and Eloise Midgen.
WHERE: WWN.
WHEN: Late, Sunday Night.
WHAT: Augustus is bringing Eloise dinner and is wondering how she gets him to do these things.
RATING: PG at the highest.
STATUS: In progress.

Augustus was just about to finish up the last of his paperwork when Eloise suggested he drop by the radio station to bring her dinner. While most of the time he had this sort of stoic indifference to people, Eloise had a way of getting him to do things that made him question himself sometimes. She was just so darn nice and sweet, and it was really hard not to at least feel a bit of happiness when you were around her. He shut his journal and brought his hands up to rub his eyes. Serves me right for taking this damn thing out at work anyway. He picked up his quill again and scribbled a few things on another sheet of paper and then set it neatly back in its proper place.

AJ's desk was perfectly organised. Everything was in the right order and place. Quickly, he gathered all of his paperwork and stacked it in a neat pile on his desk. He then took out another piece of paper and scribbled something on it.

Nancy,

Please have this sent to Harold on the third floor right when you get in. It's urgent.

Thanks,
Augustus

He grabbed his brief case and opened it, neatly filling it will papers and the things he needed for when he got home. Quietly, he charmed the suitcase so that it could fit in his pocket. He took the stack of papers he had just wrote and set them on his secretary's desk so she would see them in the morning. And with that, he was off to go get Eloise her dinner.

He stopped at an Italian restaurant and leaned over the counter. A lady was smiling at him, which made him turn his head and look down at his folded hands. When the cashier came up to the register, he seemed rather tired. "What will you be having today, sir?" Augustus scratched his head, "Err. Can I just get some spaghetti with tomato basil sauce?" Seriously? How did she get him to do these things?! "Oh. Yea. And an order of breadsticks with extra garlic on them. To-go. Thanks." The cashier nodded to him and a few minutes later came back with his order. He handed him some money and then grabbed the brown paper bag, rolled the top down, and walked out of the restaurant. He apparated to WWN when no one was looking and stepped inside quickly as if running into someone other than Eloise would be an absolutely dreadful thing to happen.

He saw Eloise through the glass window and held up the bag, pointing at it. When he entered, the room he smiled, perhaps for the first time the whole day. "Hey Lou."

"I know it itches." He looked at her and tried to be sympathetic, but it probably came off more like something a father would say than anything else. "But you have to resist the urge, alright?" He smiled at her again (Merlin, he was doing that too much around her) and sighed. "Yes. I should probably get some sleep. But I won't." He began to rub the tense muscles in his neck with his hand, "Maybe if I stay up with you tonight, I'll be able to sleep tomorrow."

Honestly, Eloise made him smile more in one night than Kyra did in a month. He didn't understand why he was so bitter or so angry. Perhaps it was because she made him look foolish. Especially when he came home one night to her sitting on the couch staring blankly at him. She told him she cheated on him and then walked out, saying the divorce was next. If he were thinking clearly, he would've been happy that she told him instead of him finding out, but he couldn't help but feel like he'd never be enough for her. People were always expecting so much of him and somehow he always let them down. He was never that interesting, or very fun and it seemed like everyone around him abandoned him sooner or later.

He was taken from his train of thought when Eloise spoke to him. She sounded so sure of herself, and really it was hard not to believe anything that Eloise said. She was just so positive, fun, silly, and interesting. He had never met someone so full of life and while usually he found peppy people to be exhausting, she just made him want to be better. She made him want to be happier. He smiled weakly at her again. "Thanks Lou." AJ didn't know what else to say, but somehow he knew Eloise would understand that he was thanking her for a whole lot more than that comment. She helped him, she was a great friend, and if he thought he was good enough for her, even for a second, he would've made her his years ago.

She was surprised when he mentioned that he wanted to stay with her. She'd never had company at the station and usually, during the down time, she worked on her music, humming softly to herself. Or she'd sketch and draw. "Oh! If you stay? Could I draw you?" she asked, a hopeful smile on her face. "I really need to work on my portraits but nobody will sit around with me long enough and if you want to stay... I'd love it!"

Eloise knew she had to stop monopolizing his time. He needed to get out, find someone to date and start moving on from his ex-wife. She didn't like Kyra. That was mean to say buy, well, anyone who could turn Augie into this? It was awful. She must've been awful. Eloise didn't know Kyra well. She'd always felt that his wife hadn't liked their friendship or maybe it was all in her head. She didn't know.

"Oh my gosh!" Eloise exclaimed, looking at him, eyes excited. "Guess what?" Of course she didn't give him time to guess, Eloise was too excited. "That bloke who was sending me all those baskets of meat? I convinced his dad, who owned the butcher shop, to start selling tofu as well and he said he would! I get to go over and be the first person to buy it!" Eloise's little stalker experience had been rather off-putting, what with all the meat that Andrew had sent her, but, well, she supposed that getting the butcher on Diagon to sell tofu was quite an achievement. "And he's going to have eggplant burgers! I'm so excited!"

Augustus thought about it for a minute. Actually, he was incredibly interested to see what he would look like to Eloise's artistic mind. "I guess I don't have a problem with that." He remained in his chair then, not exactly sure what he was going to do with her for the next 6 or so hours, but he was sure it would fly by nonetheless.

He suddenly jumped a bit at Eloise's intensity. He chuckled a little bit at how excited she was and gave a little smirk when he was reminded of her 10 year old stalker. Honestly, before he knew who the kid was he's was pretty pissed about the whole situation, but after they found out it just made him laugh. "That's really great Louie. Now I'll know where to get you tofu if you ever come over for dinner." He wasn't sure if that was an invitation or not, because it just came out of his mouth without thinking. Augustus was actually a wonderful cook, though he wasn't home much to show off his talents.

Eloise was excited to draw Augie. Pulling out her sketchbook, she flipped to a blank page and started drawing. He was just... already in her mind, she really found she didn't have to stare at him as much as she wanted. Augie was handsome. That's really all there was to it. She'd always been attracted to him but she really wasn't so sure how to go about telling him. Or if she ever should? Probably not. He'd just divorced his wife and she was sure that was traumatic enough for him without some girl throwing herself at him. Course, he was one of her closest friends and she's not sure what she'd do without him. When he'd married Kyra and hadn't been around as much? She'd missed it so much and she didn't think she could go through that again. She just hoped to always be his friend.

Smiling, she tucked her hair behind her ear, glancing at him. "Dinner would be nice," she said, knowing that he meant it in a purely platonic way. "I actually don't eat tons of tofu. I like it but I really like pastas and salads and the like. Being a vegetarian doesn't mean I eat just weird stuff."

She reached out, touching his face, turning it just a bit. He had lovely lips. She wanted to tell him that but that might be a bit weird. Instead, she cleared her throat and looked back at what she was working on. "So," she said, trying to find something to talk about. "Are you dating anyone yet?"

He loved the way she looked when she drew things. Different from her normal self, more serious, but still Eloise all the same. She was perfect honestly. Even in school, obviously she was too young for him then, but he always thought she was lovely. And it angered him. He stuck up for her sometimes, it landed him a lot of grief, but he'd never stop. Ever.

"Pasta's good. I'm good at pasta." He looked confused when she touched his face but went with it, knowing there was probably some artsy reasoning behind it.

He wrinkled his nose at her question. Honestly? The only woman in his life was Eloise and he liked it that way. He scratched his head. "Well, er, no. Definitely not. Yea." He didn't know why but he hadn't thought about it, but really women embarrassed him more than they interested him.

Her finger absently traced the line of his jaw before she turned back to the work at hand, listening to him talk. Augie didn't say a lot but she didn't mind the silence. It was always nice and comfortable between them. Well, it used to be. Things had definitely changed a bit and she wasn't sure where to go with that. So, instead, she just continued drawing. She leaned back, biting her bottom lip as she studied his bottom lip, idly tracing her own. It wasn't right. She erased it a bit and then redid the lines, nodding. "I make pasta a lot," she said, smiling up at him.

Looking up at him, she leaned forward, and smiled. "Really?" she asked, a bit surprised. "But girls love you. They're always watching you." She nodded and looked back at her drawing. The idea of him dating someone else was sickening but she ignored it. He deserved to be happy. "There isn't anyone at work you're interested in? At all?" Didn't blokes need to have sex ALL the time. Course, just cause he wasn't dating didn't mean he wasn't having sex...

She was beautiful. Uncommonly, wonderfully beautiful and he found himself staring at her in the silence. When she traced his jaw he resisted the urge to pull her hand up to his lips and kiss each one of her fingertips. As he was studying her, her hair fell in front of her face. Before she had the time to remove it herself, he pushed the strand behind her ear, the back of his hand brushing against her cheek. He stared at her, rather intensely before looking away quickly. Merlin. Stop that. She's your friend you idiot. He was really going to have to control himself better.

She was talking about him dating again. He didn't want to talk about dating. She was probably trying to get him away from her. It had to be a drag hanging out with a washed up healer who's wife left him because he was an unemotional workaholic. "Er. Well I don't know about that." Honestly? AJ didn't notice when girls were interested in them because frankly, he had absolutely no interest in them. He couldn't think of an answer to her question, so he raked his mind for something to say. "Well, er no. I mean, Angelina Johnson smiles at me a lot but I uh. Well no there isn't anyone really." Damn. He sounded like an idiot.

She looked up at him as he tucked her hair behind her ear, feeling the back of his hand brush against her cheek. She gave him a shy smile, trying not to lean into his touch. Just friends. that was it. That was all they'd ever be. She nudged his leg with her toe and looked back down at the portrait she was working on. Half listening for the end of her playlist, she paused and recorded her blurb before queuing up her next set. It was a love show so she played a lot of love songs and the words humming through the air waves were making her uncomfortable. She had the urge to put on Weird Sisters... something hard and rockish.

"You know," she said, putting her pencil down and reaching across to straighten his tie. "Girls find you very handsome and adorable. That girl we saw at the ice cream parlour wanted to owl her and I bet you never did." She didn't like the idea that Angelina Johnson was making eyes at Augie but... maybe it'd be good for him. Lowering her hands. She smiled and shrugged.

"Is she pretty?" She asked, trying to remember Angelina Johnson. She was probably beautiful and much prettier than her. And skinnier. "You should ask her out."

Honestly. How did she do that? She would just pop on air say a few things and make them sound perfect and then go back to whatever she was doing. It was impressive, really.

He thought back to said time at the ice cream parlour. There was a girl there, yes. She was hitting on him, yes. He was interested, no. Honestly, why would he flirt or even notice someone like that when Eloise was around anyway? "No. I didn't owl her. Contrary to popular belief, I do not pick up women at ice cream parlours." He smiled though this time in a sarcastic way. Why was she talking about all of this? She definitely wanted him to find someone so he'd stop being a pest and leave her alone. That was definitely it.

He scratched his head again, trying to think of Angelina's looks. Honestly? He did know what she looked like, but he never really paid close attention. From what he'd heard from other blokes at the office though, she was apparently pretty attractive. "Er. Well. I think people think she's good looking, yea." Her next statement took him by surprise. He didn't really know what to think of it. Eloise was so nice and he should'nt assumed because of that, that'd she'd always like his company. She was sure to find a proper bloke and Augie was probably getting in the way. Bloody hell. He'd be one lucky son of a bitch. Not knowing what to say, he just agreed with her: "Er. Well. Yea. I guess I could do that."

"Well," Eloise said, fingers and hands quickly moving over her sketch. "Maybe you should start. You're very handsome, Augie and you don't deserve to be alone." She couldn't very well meet his eyes and say it but she'd never had a problem telling him how she felt. It was rather easy, actually and he did seem to listen and that was always very nice. Not many people listened to her. Well, her radio show didn't count because she was pretty certain that the one person who did listen to her was in this room right now. "I mean. It's not like women don't want to date you."

When he said he'd ask Ange out, a sense of dread fell over her and her hand stilled. Looking up at him, she opened her mouth to say something but found she couldn't really find the words. He was going to ask someone out. Merlin. Then she'd never see him again. That's what had happened with Kyra. They'd started dating and Augie had little time for her anymore. It made sense, honestly. But, well, she didn't want to lose him again.

"Just promise me you won't forget about me this time around," she said, trying to come off as painful but her voice was laced with a hint of vulnerability. "I mean. I'm sure you two will have a lot of fun and maybe you will like her... or something."

Augustus gave her the "are you joking?" look. He was tense, not very fun, and he worked too much. Women really shouldn't want to be dating him, this he knew.

Now he was uncomfortable. Not with Eloise per-say, but with all the things that were going on in his head right now. He looked at her again, rubbing the spot between his eyebrows to the bridge of his nose. "Er. Yea maybe." He felt a heavy weight drop on his shoulder like he couldn't breathe. He had to get some air or something. "Hey. Uhm, I think I'm gonna go. Raincheck on breakfast, okay? I just realized I have some, er, stuff I got to do."

With that statement he stood up and walked towards the door, stopping at it's frame to look at Eloise one again. "Oh and Eloise? I never have and never will forget about you." He tapped the door frame with his hand, and then ducked out not looking back behind him. He honestly had no idea what was going on in his head, but all of the sudden being near Eloise was too intoxicating. He just hoped him leaving so suddenly wouldn't hurt her feelings.
