Who: Bill Weasley & Lavender Brown
When: Tuesday, October 4th
Where: Lavender's Flat
What: Bill pops by for a visit.
Rating: Low
Status: Incomplete

Pulling his hair back away from his face, Bill walked out of Gringotts and down the steps. He tied the ponytail back with a bit of leather he usually wore around his wrist and surveyed the Alley. Working at a desk didn't agree with Bill and he was busy researching possible dig sites so he could be out in the field again. Lifting his face to the sky, Bill's lips turned up into a small smile as the sunshine warmed his face. It'd be cold soon and Bill didn't want to waste a moment of the warm weather.

Walking towards the exit, Bill nodded and smiled at a few people he knew. Contrary to what some people thought, Bill Weasley was a pretty well known bloke. He'd help make a lot of rich people even richer and was the person to call if you needed wards put up or taken down. He simply didn't need to be told how impressive he was. Bill already knew.

He left Diagon and ducked into a nearby side street, apparating to Lavender's building. So what if he looked up her address from her Gringotts account? She'd invited him to visit so it was only a little creepy that he was just going to show up. Knocking on the door to her flat, Bill shoved his hands into his pockets and rocked back on the heels of his feet.

Lavender hadn't even thought about giving Bill her address. Almost everyone knew where she lived, and if they didn't, well, obviously it wasn't that hard to figure it out. Though, she hadn't expected Bill to actually come by her place so quickly. She would have gotten dressed properly if she'd known he was coming over, but the idea of putting on nice clothes wasn't really thrilling at the moment. She also still had a headache from her drinking the previous night with Will.

She'd lost her job, which she hadn't told anyone, though she was sure someone had to know. She'd been arrested by the Ministry and tried for murdering some poor muggle man, who had apparently gotten in the way of a plain old wolf in the woods. It was hard to come back from that, especially with Pansy Parkinson trying to come up with all these new laws, which people seemed to like well enough.

So, Lavender had spent the day in her flat, switching between watching the telly and reading the Dorothy L'Amour book she'd purchased a few weeks back from Penny before she'd moved in. She hadn't had the chance to open it until now and it was really good. Curled up on the couch, Lavender flinched when the knock came at the door, though instead of just letting whoever it was think she wasn't home, like she wanted to do, Lav stood from the couch. Again, she hadn't been expecting Bill Weasley to be at her door, so when she opened it in her teddy bear hoodie that she so loved, she blushed a little.

"I wasn't expecting you just yet.." Lavender stepped back and gestured for him to come in. Thankfully, she was still keeping her flat in a good condition and the only thing out of place was the pillow and unfolded blanket across the couch. "Have a seat. Would you like something to drink?"

Bill walked in, not bothering to take off his boots. He was the sort of person who always made himself at home whether it was around a campfire or in a fancy mansion. Bill didn't really care what someone's place looked like. He only really cared about the people who lived inside.

"Yeah, well, I had a free afternoon." He plopped down on the sofa, his hands folded behind his head. "And no, I'm alright." Bill flashed Lavender a crooked grin and set his blue eyes on her. He wasn't very good at small talk, so Bill didn't bother.

"So. What's going on then?"

Lavender pulled the hood of her shirt down, so there weren't ears perched precariously on top of her head and gave Bill a small smile before moving to sit next to him. She was a bit thrown off by how easily he made himself comfortable, throwing himself on her sofa, and barely even shot a second glance at her. That wasn't something Lavender was really used to.

She blinked a few times when he jumped right into the reason he was there. Coughing into her hand, to hide that she hadn't really prepared for them meeting today, she sighed before she started to talk. "These new anti-werewolf laws that Parkinson is trying to get past..." She shook her head. They were strictly directed at her, and Lavender was well aware of that, and she didn't know how to handle it.

"Remus wouldn't have allowed something like this," Bill said flatly. It pained him that his friend had passed away. When it came to his lycanthropy, Remus was the only person Bill trusted enough to turn to. "But, wouldn't it still have to get approval from the Ministry? There can't be that many people who are going to listen to Pansy Parkinson. Not people who really matter anyway."

Bill stretched his legs out, crossing one foot over the other. "I don't think we'll ever really be accepted in society, but that's no reason to treat us like animals who need to be caged.

Lavender shook her head again. He hadn't been here. Well, she hadn't either, all locked up in the ministry like she had been. "It would have to get approval. And I've been to the Ministry. They aren't completely against the idea." Too many people had listened to Pansy for Lavender's comfort. She was thankful for Penny's shop right downstairs, otherwise she was sure that someone would have come along and trashed her flat in protest of her.

"There aren't many of us. And Pansy... She hates me. She will push and push until she sees this through." And Lavender hadn't really been great at persuading her otherwise. There was physical proof out there that Lavender had threatened harm on Daphne Greengrass. "I can't see my little girl anymore, and she did that specifically because she knew it would kill me." Sometimes Lavender forgot simple things, like that Bill didn't live in the country. He probably wasn't aware of Julie, the six year old orphan that Lavender had been trying to adopt for several years now.

"So, what? I bugger off to France and the sane and rational people in this country just vanish?" Bill didn't believe that. Then again, he'd seen good people mind their own business when they should've been standing up and demanding the Ministry do the right thing. Unfortunately, not all people were born with the Weasleyesque desire to champion a cause.

"Pansy Parkinson is a little girl who wants to still be the biggest fish in the proverbial pond," Bill pointed out. He doubted she'd seen anything of the world that didn't come with room service. It wasn't until a person truly experienced the world in all it's richness, sorrow and joy that they could have any idea what sort of person they were going to be. "And if you sit here and let her win, what does that say about you? It says you're accepting her as your better and that isn't what a Gryffindor would do." Lavender's words echoed in his mind and Bill backpedaled quickly. "Wait, since when do you have a daughter?"

"See what happens when all the good people leave the country?" She was trying to joke, but it came off a little flat. Merlin, he was right, she was doing everything wrong. But really, who didn't deserve a little time to just... be down. Sure, Lavender had not really been herself since she'd kicked Roger out, but a little more time wouldn't hurt anyone but herself, right?

"She's the same age as I am..." Lavender trailed off. It was like he was talking about her. She'd been places and she'd seen things, but it was all tourist things. The only thing she had that put her apart was the wolf and the fact that she had been pregnant and lost her baby. She shook it off and skipped to Julie. Julie was easy to talk about, she'd been Lavender's life for a long time.

"She's not technically my daughter. She's a war orphan who I've been trying to adopt for a few years now, but it always comes down to the fact that I'm a werewolf and wouldn't be able to take proper care of her because of it." They'd told her that if she'd had a husband or a partner or something along those lines, they would let her have the girl, but... that hadn't happened. "However, I should be sixteen weeks pregnant with a little girl this Thursday, if I hadn't lost her." That was the first time she'd spoken so openly about the loss of her baby.

Bill was a pretty smart bloke. It didn't take my effort to piece together the facts and realize that Lavender was going through a rough time of it. He looked at her for a long moment, almost sizing her up before he spoke again.

"You can't let the past dictate how you're going to live in the present." Bill wasn't a big believer of the future. He had an ancient Greek philosophy towards life. Whatever you were going to do in life, do it great. Live in the moment. Dwelling on the past or worrying about the future wasn't going to do anyone a lick of good. "Neither of us were suppose to live after our attacks, right? But we're here. If you can survive that, you're stronger than just about anyone there is."

Lavender shifted, tucking her legs up under her and slumping into the arm of the chair.

"Bill. I've lost my job, my boyfriend and my baby in the past five weeks. Just last week, I was arrested by the Ministry and kept in a holding cell for an animal attack the night of the moon, that I didn't do. The past? It's kind of fucked up right now." The past was very much influencing her present and she really didn't think there was anything wrong with that for the moment.

"Okay. And?" And there it was. Classic Bill. He was the person who didn't let people wallow in pity. If your life was fucked up then you pulled yourself up and went about fixing it. "I'm not saying things don't suck, but what, exactly, does sitting around accomplish? Because I would think the best thing you could do and the best way to show everyone what you are truly like is to move past it."

Shrugging his shoulders, Bill leaned forward, resting his arms on his knees. "I spent years married to the most selfish and self absorbed bitch I've ever met. But instead of letting it ruin my life I just keep going, you know?"

"You know, if I knew you a little bit better, I would probably hit you right now." Or scream or storm out. It was some of the many things she was good at when frustrated or angry. Or upset. Or generally in being herself, really. "Sitting around, for the moment, accomplishes nothing, and I'm not terribly put-off by that." She shrugged.

Rolling her eyes, Lavender sighed again. "Sounds like a happy few years, but I'm not you. I want to wallow and drink and eat bacon and when I'm ready? Then I'll move on and go again."

"And by the time you decide to move on the Ministry is going to lock you up in a cage. So that'll be fun." Bill wasn't going to let this go. People generally needed a kick in the ass when their lives were down the bin and he was the person to give that.

"You want Parkinson and the Ministry to respect you, right?"

See, the thing was, if more of the werewolves were willing to cooperate, Lavender didn't think all of the laws trying to be passed were terrible. Perhaps they should all change under the influence of wolfsbane in the ministry. Tracking, for those who weren't constantly followed by the press, might also be a good idea. They weren't completely terrible ideas and if it kept the rogue werewolves in check, then Lavender wouldn't complain about being subjected to crap treatment once a month. She wouldn't say that though.

"I just want to be left alone."

"No you don't." He didn't believe that for a second. People didn't want to be alone and when they were looking for someone to talk to they really didn't want to be alone.

"There are easy ways to be left alone. And arguing with people on journals and asking people to come visit? Not the way. So what do you really want?"

Really, that was just Lavender. She got a kick out of arguing with people. Recently though, she was more just going through the motions with certain people and it didn't have the same effect. She was being much more careful about the things she was saying.

"I wasn't asking you to come visit, per say. I wanted someone who actually understood all this crap. Because no one else could really understand, could they?"

"I understand my point of view on it. I'm not going to support a law that could potentially lead to me being tracked, tagged or whatever. Because that means I'm admitting I'm different. That there is something wrong with me." Bill stood up, feeling his hackles starting to rise. He'd dealt with this before, most recently in Paris with all of Fleur's French friends.

"What I don't understand is how you can object to this, seeing what it's preventing you from doing and being and just.. wallow."

"We are different," she emphasized the word, leaning forward a little bit as she did. "We're not bad or wrong, but we are different. Once a month, I change into a creature, that even with the wolfsbane, still has it's scary moments. It's different." There were some things she just felt needed to be said. She wasn't like everyone else, she was a long way from it.

"I'm not objecting. But yes, I am wallowing. For now. I'm entitled to have reactions that are my own to things. You might not agree, but for a little while, I want to fucking wallow. I want to be sad and work my way through things in the time I feel is necessary." Lavender didn't want to fight with him, but they thought differently, had different beliefs. It wasn't a bad thing, and it was bringing back some of the spunk in her that she had been missing for a while.
