She reached out screaming but she was being pulled in the other direction. The sounds of gunfire overwhelmed any other sound that naturally could be heard, but Emily couldn’t here even that. Dead silence. Only watching as the face of her mother disappeared and the horde of zombies grew distant. She watched as they hell hit by gunfire. Her hand still outstretched. Her father’s voice speaking to her was finally a sound registering.
Emily woke up with a start. Her heart bounding, sweat drenching the shirt she wore. She reached for her gun, but there were no zombies it was all in her head. Replying the memory she wished would just go away. Emily looked beside her, her brother still not there. He had left, not telling her why, but it had been days ago. They swore they would not be separated; yet here they were apart. Orders could separate them; there was no controlling that. Sleeping alone was not easy, she felt better knowing someone she could complete trust was by her side. That luxury was taken from her, but she just hoped her brother would be back soon.
If a turntable rotates through 720 degrees in one second, how many revolutions does it make in one minute. 720 multiplied by 60 multiplied by 1 that total divided by 360. She lay there doing the mental math of 43200 divided by 360, it took her a moment longer visualizing the numbers in long division. 120 turns.
As Emily felt her heart rate slow to normal, or what could be viewed as normal when you always felt on edge, she sat up brushing tears from her cheeks. Were they tears or was it cold sweat? Emily went for her beg pulled out a new shirt and peeled off the old. Could you even call the one she was changing into clean? Anything was better than the damp cold of sweat that chilled her.
Pulling the shirt over her head and letting her hair free, she stood up shoving her shoes on. She tucked her gun into the waist of her pants and leaving the area where people were sleeping. She wasn’t sure where she was going; there was not exactly a lot to do. All she knew was she wasn’t going back to sleep tonight.
Hearing a noise, she reached for her gun out of instinct. “Damn Emily,” she muttered chastising herself, she was in a safe house and even now she couldn’t let her guard down. Emily looked in the direction of the noise, trying to find out the culprit making the noise. Probably someone on guard duty and she knew it. Still she held onto her gun, but she wasn’t about to go point it at other survivors. “Hello?” She question, she figured the person on the other end of the noise was wondering what the hell she was doing up.
