Lukas nodded when Evan told him to get some rest. At this point he was pretty sure that his body would make him get some rest anyways (whether he liked it or not). His vision swam a little and he felt about ready to pass out, so he leaned his head back against the wall for a second and closed his eyes.
In the background, he vaguely heard Evan mention going back out for his supply run. There was a slight delay to his brain so that when he opened his eyes to respond, Evan was already gone. He closed his mouth since he didn't have to speak again and wondered when Evan had walked away. Looking around the safe house, he noted the many people walking around and looking at him cautiously. He'd probably be cautious of new people too. Never know if someone was lying about being bitten. All it would take would be one.
"Was that my brother, Evan?" a slightly accented voice asked quietly from beside him.
Lukas turned to see a tall, thin wisp of a man, with dark hair and eyes and skin pale enough to suggest that he never saw the sun. He bore a slight resemblance to Evan and he hadn't met a whole lot of frenchies running around, so he could only assume... "Yeah. Went back out on his supply run. He was just droppin' me off."
"Oh," the boy said, looking slightly disappointed. But then he brightened a little. "He saved you?"
"Somethin' like that. We're about even now I'd say..." The boy looked concerned. Lukas imagined that he wasn't too keen on having his brother out running around with those things. He would probably feel the same if the government had Gabe running all around the city. "Hey kid, you know where I can get cleaned up? Maybe have a snack and then find a place to lie down?"
"Yeah sure..." he said quietly, looking Lukas over curiously. He supposed he looked a little imposing in his police gear, with his bullet proof vest and the vast amount of weaponry strapped to his person. He'd be happy to get it off actually. Maybe give his spine a little bit of a rest. "Follow me," he paused and then looked back over at Lukas, "I'm Daniel by the way."
"Lukas," he shot back, giving the kid a small smile and holding his hand out for him to shake. The guy had a firm handshake, but not so firm as to prove something. He liked him already.
Daniel showed him to where the make-shift mess hall was and he grabbed a quick bite of stale crackers and cheese before moving along to the showers. Daniel said he would watch his stuff, since Lukas had a lot of expensive weaponry and he didn't know a soul in this place. He flushed red as a tomato when Lukas stripped down, grabbing a towel from his bag and making off to the showers. Honestly you'd think the kid had never seen a naked man before. There was no room for modesty during the apocalypse.
The feeling of having clean skin was very underrated. He'd probably washed about a week's worth of sweat and grime and dirt from his skin and he felt like a completely different man. Probably smelled a little better too. He would worry about washing his clothes after he slept for a few hours. For now he had some casual wear that he could sleep in. He looked around for a place to set down his sleeping bag and Daniel led him over to a corner of the safe house where the Marchands had staked out a claim.
"You can sleep here if you like... you don't look like you'll be staying long. It won't be a bother," he said brightly, giving Lukas a warm smile.
He didn't need to be told twice. Throwing down his bag against the wall behind him, he unrolled his sleeping bag and lay down on top of it, using his balled up sweater as a pillow. "Thanks kid," he murmured before falling asleep almost immediately.
