Evan would have been lying if he tried to claim that his thought process hadn't followed the same train as Leah's. How tempting would it have been to just… "innocently" shove her over the edge of this building? And how he'd have probably been lauded, if he cared for such things. But it wasn't worth it. Or maybe it was worth it, but Evan just didn't have the energy to deal with it – to fight with her – that day. Besides that, he may or may not have harbored the same appreciation as Leah did for the way she watched his back. And he may or may not have been dead a few times over, were it not for that same defense.
But he would never admit it aloud either. If either of them knew exactly how alike they were? They'd probably hate every second of it.
Fussing over the stolen bottle of champagne probably would have been easy, and probably would have been expected, but Evan didn't really care. Okay, maybe he did. Maybe a little. But he wasn't going to give her the satisfaction of knowing that he cared. He did, however, turn just in time to see her start to struggle with the cork, and it gave him a little bit of grim satisfaction to know that her brazenness wasn't going entirely unpunished. There was no way she was getting that open on her own. Evan had tried, and eventually resorted to stealing a bottle opener from the Grand Central kitcjen. He'd eventually share that little piece of treasure with her. Maybe. If he felt charitable enough.
Besides that, he didn't put it past her to just snatch it from the small duffel bag on the floor. He'd see if that happened first.
For now, he just silently chuckled and turned his head back to look out over the "view." "Shame. I'm sure they're really missing your company and they don't even know it," he mused as he leisurely took a sip from his own champagne bottle. This was a little more entertaining than he expected it to be.
"From what I've seen, being early or being late has never stopped you from getting the best pick of the party favors one way or another, Stone," he mused. It wasn't entirely as insulting as it sounded, either.
