Re: David, Allie, eventually Brandon
If there was one thing the holiday party had lacked, it was good quality music. Thankfully, the wonderful Kris had provided them with a means of connecting an iPod to a dock with speakers capable of sending the music to a large area of Madison Square. No poorly-tuned group of singers would taint this celebration.
Another thing that was missing was a bit more personal. Unlike Rae's outfit with its adorable hat, Allie's own dress, equally as eye-catching, lacked the fun little quirk that a hat brought. She hadn't even been able to decide on a suitable hair accessory to match. The only thing that saved her from pouting excessively over it was the fact that she was still garnering compliments, and, once or twice, a few wandering hands she'd had to bat away. That made her feel better about the whole being hat-less thing.
Brandon had said he'd seek her out sometime during this soiree, but he hadn't stated when or where. Which was fine. Allie had plenty of things to keep her occupied in the meantime. Namely, spending time with a certain little brother of her friend's boyfriend. David Zimmerman was a cutie, no doubt about that. What made him even more endearing was the fact that he blushed every time she gave him a compliment. Making him feel special was fun.
The festivities were only just starting up, and Allie was taking a break from seeing to the arrangements, fulfilling her promise to spend time with David. She didn't see it as a hassle or an inconvenience. In her opinion, that was what the hostess of a party was for: to give everyone a reason to love the party. If she could find him a nice girl to spend the evening with, then she was doing an exceptional job.
Seated next to him, legs crossed at the ankle, Allie surveyed the setup of the talent show area while she waited for David to gather up the nerve to speak. A moment to adjust to the chaotic surroundings was all he needed, and she was more than happy to allow him to initiate the conversation.
When he finally did speak, she flicked her brown eyes to his face and quirked her lips into a smile. "Oh, thank you. It wasn't nearly as much work as the holiday party. We reused a lot of the decorations," she explained, indicating the strands of garland around the tables. "So it was mostly just a matter of getting refreshments and an appropriate form of entertainment."
Allie had to tilt herself a bit closer to be able to hear his quiet voice, masking the action by resting her arm on the back of the chair and crossing one leg over the other. Her tongue traced along her upper teeth as she smiled at his compliment. His face was beet red. So cute. "You're too sweet, do you know that? And you look really handsome tonight, yourself." Reaching out, she smoothed out his shirt collar, which was sticking up at a slightly odd angle.
"I'm glad you decided to come tonight, and you have my word as a hostess that you will enjoy yourself. I never make promises I can't keep," she said.
