"A wonderful friendship indeed." She smiled. It was always good meeting another person who didn't like arguing, and who didn't mind when she shared her strong opinions. She could count on one hand the number of people who did more than tolerate it when she went on a tirade about something seemingly pointless.
Awesome best friend Allie. The woman glanced down upon hearing that, although she made no attempt to correct David with the truth. Allie wasn't so deluded as to truly believe Rae considered her a best friend. That Sarah girl held that title, and Elliot ranked high above everyone else. Allie was just thankful to be counted genuinely as one of Rae's friends. When she looked back up and saw David grinning, Allie couldn't help but mirror it with her own. Important, yes. "Invaluable, even," she added.
With a gentle frown, she insisted, "I do say so. Usually it's only my brother who sticks up for me..." When everyone starts picking on me. But she didn't add that last part. No need to make herself look completely fragile. "Not that I let everyone walk all over me," she added hastily. "It's just harder to be tough when just about everyone is so much bigger than I am."
Unable to keep from laughing softly when David mussed up his hair, she was about to agree that she was looking forward to spending time with him at the party, when Rae appeared, looking smug and devious about something. Allie quirked an eyebrow at that expression. That almost always meant really good things... or really bad things.
She made a note of David's contact number, assured that he would either get hers from the screen or ask Rae for it later. Nodding, Allie said, "It was great talking to you, David. We'll do this again really soon, okay?"
When David was gone and Rae back in front of the monitor, Allie smirked. "So what did your Prince Charming want that kept you away for," she glanced at the clock on her computer, "twenty minutes, hmm?" She had a feeling she knew, though.
