At times during the day April had wondered if she was being a bad host, working on her picnic plan while DJ read. But that was another thing she appreciated about whatever it was she had with him, the fact that she could do her thing while he did his and neither one of them expected the other to entertain them. In her mind that was nice – they could enjoy the company of having another person around, without the pressure of carrying on a conversation.
Or at times like this, she also appreciated that she could start a conversation and DJ didn’t feel as if she were encroaching on him in some way – or at least she hoped he didn’t feel that way.
She couldn’t help but return his smile with one of her own, her blue eyes wide and excited as DJ reacted positively to the idea of stargazing and a picnic. “It has been,” she agreed with a nod. “And yup, I thought a picnic would be kind of nice….” April trailed off for a moment before adding. “You know, just the two of us. Since we’ve been sharing space with Lucas and George.” Which meant they hadn’t really truly been alone, which April was finding she missed when it came to spending time with him.
Grabbing her list and getting up from the table, April moved over to the bed and settled down next to DJ. “A blanket is totally already on my list,” she answered with a small smile as she held the list out to him. “Along with food ideas,” there was a little more hesitance there as she let him read over the simple list of sandwiches, a simple kind of chicken noodle soup and brownies for dessert. “I don’t cook as well as Rae, but I kind of think I could manage this stuff.” April had watched Rae make it enough times that she was confident she wouldn’t screw it up, or as confident as she could be about cooking anything really.
