|Mommy's gonna come looking for the head-shrinker.|
It said a lot about some of the insults that Toby had gotten over the years that Emma and Elisa understood exactly what that meant. And the part about their mothers had shaken them, deeper than he'd thought it would. He reassured them properly; Emma that their mother wasn't a ghost, and that she wouldn't come and get Toby, and Elisa that mommy was out there somewhere, and maybe someday she'd come to Sing Sing and be with Elisa, that she'd be there if she could. It had dragged Elisa's mood down, but she was trying to cover it up.
Since he'd sent them to Kori's for the night the day before yesterday, he'd been trying to clean the wall up, with very little success. When they got back, he'd covered it in a blanket, and now that they were doing daycare things with Kori again, he figured it was a safe time to try and clean it again. Spray paint was difficult to remove, Toby was quickly realizing.
He'd scrubbed at it all night the first night it was there, and all he'd done was removed the paint around it. He'd gotten rid of some of the paint, but the core of the message was still there. Enough to remind the girls that someone had it out for the only parent he had.
Shaking his head quickly to dispel much more sinking into that thought process, he headed into the stockroom and wandered in the direction of the cleaning supplies. The soap and water he'd been using wasn't cutting it, he realized now. He needed something a little heavier duty.
As he dug through the cleaning supplies, he barely noticed the door to the room opening.
