“NYU, actually,” Kori answered. “I had some fabulous scholarships thankfully, because my family would have never been able to afford it otherwise.” It used to be that she hated admitting those things, but perspective had shown her that it wasn’t something to be ashamed of. “Yeah, we’re New Yorkers born and raised.” Had she mentioned that before or was that just a fact that floated around? It didn’t really matter, but it had her curiosity peaked. “Do we sound so much like New Yorker’s that it’s easy to spot?” she broke down and asked.
Oh that was cute. She hadn’t seen bashful on a grown man in a long time, if ever. “It’s all mind control,” she teased. “I get people believing they want to talk and then I use the things they say against them, so you should probably watch out.” It was silly and a little immature, but it was fun and even a little relaxing. She usually only said things like that around her family and close friends. “You know, you make everything sound so reasonable,” she mused. “Like everything has an explanation.” She wondered what he’d say if she ever really opened up about Mike’s death; she’d said some things, but she didn’t think it was enough for anyone to go all shrink-y on her over.
“I know, but I don’t always want to burden them with all my sadness and thoughts,” she told him. “I was pretty terrible to them right after Mike died.” And she didn’t want to push her luck. She and Leah were finally back in a better place and she didn’t want to do something to bring all the progress crashing down around them. “I know all your haunts, it makes it easier for the girls and I to practice our stealthy stalking skills,” she confirmed with a wiggle of her eyebrows and a smirk. She didn’t know why she was being so silly, probably because she was having fun and it was easier to be silly when she was in a good mood.
It was almost impossible not to think that the Brooks girls were adorable, they just had so much energy. “Thanks sweetie,” Kori replied. “Your costume is great too.” She swallowed down a laugh at Elisa’s astute statement.
“It is,” she confirmed. “I was cold and he was nice enough to let me have his jacket because he wasn’t wearing it. I know it doesn’t fit my costume, but I would have turned into a Kori popsicle otherwise.”
