“Probably, although I think it’s just because I’m a teenager,” Nick answered with a shrug. Honestly Silas kept saying he had his reasons, and she had stopped arguing with him about it. She just held onto hope that sooner or later he would think she was capable to be near things that explode. “No, I don’t think he’s being a jackass,” she replied honestly. Sure, she found it frustrating, but she didn’t think Silas was purposefully being a jackass about things. “He’s just being careful I think.” Wise maybe? Making sure she was trustworthy before he let her near anything that could blow this whole place to kingdom come.
Nick was thankful when Jace didn’t ask whom that someone was. Nodding her head, she smiled slightly. “Yeah, I did get what I went out for,” and the lava lamp had actually worked, which was freaking surprising considering how hard it was to find things that were still functional. “Coming back empty handed would have truly sucked, that’s for sure.” That was probably the last time for awhile she’d be going out, it was better to leave it to the people who knew what they were doing. “I got really damn lucky, I know.” A broken leg or ankle would have really sucked, more so than the injured wrist did.
“Oh good, you remember the whole ‘stop, drop and roll’ thing from school,” she teased, grinning slightly. “And yeah, you probably are, which is why I’m going to stay at least five feet away from you.” Because the last thing she needed was to become a fireball, yeah, five feet away sounded like a really good idea. “I’m sure everyone around here would appreciate you doing it in a less populated area,” she began. “I mean I know I would.” Some people could be extremely stupid, and she wouldn’t put it against them to walk right into Jace’s fire breathing act.
Although she had been kidding, the reassurance that he wouldn’t hold it against her if he set himself on fire was kind of nice. “Good, because I’m no taking the fall for that one.”
Waiting while he dug around in his bag and gathered whatever it was he needed in order to do the fire breathing thing. Nick glanced at the other people standing around waiting for Jace to get his stuff together, smiling at a few of them while she asked. “What do you think, are we ready to be amazed?” When her question was met with a chorus of ‘yes’, she turned her attention back to Jace. “Yeah, I think we’re ready.”
