Apparently, though, she'd poked on a button. Brandon never really talked about shit with Zimmerman, because who was he supposed to talk to? So, even though he'd thought he was done, he said, "Pretty sure we got into about seven fist fights before he died." Brandon usually didn't readily admit that to anyone, but it was just the way it was. "I know a little first aid. Combat first aid, anyway," he explained. "Enough to keep someone from dying when in a fight." Other than that, he'd leave it to everyone else. "You don't get to be a cop without knowing at least a little bit." Sometimes, with his bristly personality, people forgot that he was a cop once.
"I admit, I kinda envy it about the guy. Having tunnel vision like that," he explained. Evan was dedicated beyond belief. He supposed that someone in his position would have to be. "You don't?" he asked her when she mentioned not having someone to look out for. "What about that sister of yours?" Whether she admitted it or not, Vienna probably needed someone to look out for her. Sure, there was that Noah guy, but scuttlebutt said that they weren't necessarily serious. At least last Brandon knew.
Brandon nodded his head. "Good to know. That file system you and Alghren had before was fucking confusing," he said, a half-joke. "I never got why it went into alphabetical order only at the end." But he'd also never really asked. "I'll probably pick up a lot of the slack, if only because I'll need something to do to keep my mind busy, but..." he shrugged. He also felt shitty making Reg do it, since he had enough on his plate.
Really, he'd probably have gone with her no matter what she said, but ten minutes wouldn't really be that bad. He stuffed his hands into his pockets and nodded. "Might grab a bottle of whiskey too," he chuckled softly. "Don't think I've needed a drink this bad in a long time." Fuck-ups being on his shoulders tended to get to him a little more than anything else did.
"Silas too," he offered. "We can drop it off with Alghren at the door or something." He felt better about it, passing it off as getting things for everyone else. He didn't need anything. Not really.
Hands still in his pockets, he caught up to her in a couple of quick strides. "Think they're all busy," he explained as he looked around. "I know one of 'em's in Leah's room, and I think I just saw another one ducking into the Nichols girl's room. Probably means one of 'em's with Silas too, since they tend to do shit like this all at once." Or maybe they didn't. What did he know. "What'd you come here for, anyway? Info?" he asked.
