“No, you’re the only one who willingly submits to her demands for crossdressing,” Leah responded with a faint smile. “Kori and I have our ways of getting out of it.” Not that Leah minded, of course. She had yet to catch Brandon in the act of dressing up to play the part of the character he was reading about to Marigold, but she could only imagine whatever costumes he wore were amusing.
Hearing that Kori had been the first to arrive had Leah’s eyebrows lifting. “Huh. Well, that might be a first,” she teased. “That you’re not the fashionably late one this time.” She glanced down at her own clothes – a sweater and yoga pants – and added, “Though I can’t claim I’m fashionably late either.”
“No,” was her simple, lilting response to Brandon as she gently shouldered her way past him to claim one of the chairs. “And I agree. Punctual.” She’d always hated arriving late for things. It meant she missed out on whatever was going on.
Leah’s gaze subtly flicked to Brandon when Kori started to ask how they were. The question wouldn’t have bothered her; she was fine, stable now that she was taking better care of herself. Her main concern now was the mental state of her brother and sister.
“Ooh, so I get to lose at cards and bug you by building a card castle? Count me in. I vote for Cheat because it’s the one I probably won’t lose as bad at.”
