“Right, because I’m exactly the sort of person you could picture abusing their power of authority,” Regan remarked dryly. Nodding his head in agreement with Brandon’s words. “Having a badge didn’t mean we were boring as shit or anything,” they had still been young after all, and it never hurt to turn a blind eye to the things that weren’t exactly hurting anyone. Although he had been smiling slightly, Regan’s expression sobered at the mention of Kelley. “You know I’d say he did better than a ‘pretty good job’ in keeping us in line, fairly certain he was our fucking saving grace sometimes.” Regan often wondered what had happened to Kelley after the outbreak.
Laughing, he scrubbed a hand over his face before giving Silas a look. “Thanks for the reminder that anyone’s second rate when in the company of Stone,” in reality it didn’t really bother him, wasn’t like he had suffered much, he had had a gorgeous wife to go home to at the time. “Careful though, keep saying shit like that and his ego’s going to suck up all the oxygen in the room.” He tossed Brandon a look, a smart-ass smirk pulling up the sides of his mouth.
The discussion of whether or not Silas would have been a good cop was not a new discussion, it was the kind of thing that was just common enough to be comforting, but not enough to be annoying. “Afraid I have to side with Brandon on this one,” Regan interjected. “Which means you’re outnumbered two to one.”
“The fucking best team there was,” Regan agreed with an honest to god smile, something that had been a bit of a rarity since he got back.
Shrugging slightly, he supposed that might just be the truth – teenagers didn’t face the shit that was out there on a daily basis, or even a monthly basis like some of them did. “Maybe he does, which means he’s going to be in for one hell of a shock when he figures out you can’t just restart when things go to hell.” Though the idea of a restart button was fucking appealing, if he had that option he’d have gotten up to Lake Placid in time to save Soli. Shoving that thought to the back of his mind, Regan got up from the stool he had been sitting on. “Darts sounds like one hell of a good plan, it’s been way too long since I beat your asses at it.”
