It didn’t happen often, Bea’s desire for normal. For everything she’d lost in the end of the world, but it did still happen. She wasn’t a brooder by nature though, and she didn’t dwell. Not even a little. What she did do was move on, realize she was being stupid wishing for things that weren’t coming back. She’d never have her tiny apartment in New York City back, and she wouldn’t probably see Ty again; if he had really wanted to see her he would’ve hauled his ass to Sing Sing with Vienna. Not that it mattered, she had people here. Friends. Even if she was a somewhat shitty friend herself; too concentrated on not putting her damn nose where it didn’t belong to actually show people she cared in any non-dysfunctional way. Guess people couldn’t be that choosy about their friends when the world ended. Or maybe it was just that the friends she did have were similar enough to her that they all just dealt with each other. She and Leah, for instance. Or Noah. Either one of those had traits that Bea possessed too. Rae was the least like her, but it didn’t matter. She’d realized a while ago that she wouldn’t trade these people for anything. Sentimental as that sounded. For once she wasn’t responsible for security stuff. Brandon and Silas were dealing with something, and they didn’t need her around shuffling paper around, so she’d taken the rest of the day for herself. Found a guard tower that wasn’t being occupied, then texted Noah for company. They didn’t go running as much now that the temperatures were so low, and lately it seemed like the only times she actually saw him was when they were both doing security at the same time. And even that wasn’t really seeing, since it was mostly just talking at him over the radio. She had made herself comfortable against one of the walls, Ada pressed to her side, and a cigarette in hand. She smirked when she saw the door shift open, and said, “Took you long enough.” No real irritation in her words. “Thought you’d changed your mind and had better things to do than shoot the shit in a guard tower with me.” |
