Hanging out in a guard tower for New Year’s Eve, watching movies and drinking felt like something the teenagers would be doing, but honestly he didn’t care. He liked party’s fine –and there would probably be enough people celebrating in the Horsemen to warrant the label-, but given that option, or the option of something a little more chill and low key, he’d take the latter without thinking. Maybe he should’ve ditched the plans with Rae to spend it with Brandon and Regan instead, but he hadn’t been able to bring himself to do it, knowing what little he did about her abandonment issues. Even if Regan had seemed like a different person when he and Brandon had caught up with him earlier. He didn’t know if that made him a bad friend to Regan for not changing his plans, or a good friend to Rae. It was like being stuck between a rock and a hard place. But Jones probably wouldn't hold it against him. Hopefully. He had grabbed the couple of blankets he had in his room, and the few DVDs that he thought would be enough of a compromise between their two tastes and headed for Guard Tower 4. Rae was bringing her laptop, since the DVD drive in his had died ages ago and he’d never bothered to find a new one. He had his security radio with him also; it was habit more than anything, since now that he carried responsibility, he took it seriously. He’d admit that he was crossing his fingers that they wouldn’t need him for anything though, since he liked the idea of an uninterrupted evening. Rae wasn’t there yet when he showed up, so he made himself comfortable leaning on the window ledge, laughing at himself when he caught his reflection in the glass of the window. He’d given up shaving, since it was hard as hell with the cast and he wasn’t ambidextrous enough to manage it with his right hand, so he was pretty scruffy, and not in that charming way that women were always going on about. “Probably be rocking a full beard before the casts off,” he said to his reflection. |
