Brennan was on the floor. Eloise gaped at him for the briefest of moments -- not afraid, but certainly concerned -- and then knelt down beside him to assist with the tourniquet. He was laughing to himself. Maybe at himself? Either way, Ellie's brow was furrowed.
She hadn't meant for things to get this out of hand. Where had she gone wrong in considering the plan? It should have been more obvious that the lab would be dangerous; all of her coworkers had been just as dedicated as she, and most of them were states away from their families. Where else would they have gone, when the Outbreak hit?
Other people in the library had started to stop and stare. A few looked to be edging in and trying to offer help, but Eloise couldn't hear them.
"I'm going to go get help," she whispered to Brennan, patting him awkwardly on the head. "Keep your eyes open."
