Eloise viewed the dead city with casual interest. There had been programs and speculation about what would actually happen to civilization, should humans suddenly disappear or become unable to see to its upkeep -- but here they were really witnessing something. A transition.
The walk was almost suspiciously calm, that Ellie could spend time considering all of this. She and Brennan seemed to work well together, in that they were both quiet and thoughtful of potential danger. He looked ready for anything. As they came closer to their destination, however, she began to feel strange -- not because this had been a place she'd spent so much of her time before, but because there was an odd... Heaviness to the air. Eloise had left campus long before things got out of control; she could remember before the media cut out, however, and the awful stories about what was happening here as the infection spread.
There was the possibility of shufflers, way up the street; she could see something moving, but couldn't quite make it out. Still, she pointed quietly to them, raising her eyebrows at her companion, and then pointed to the door of the building in question. They began making their way to it, passing an overturned police car. Glass crunched under their feet.
"I'll keep watch... You try...?" She whispered. It was occurring to her now that even if she'd had her cardkey, it probably wouldn't have been possible to use. It was a lucky thing -- if she hadn't lost it, she might have come here alone and been forced to turn back.
