The way she answered the question almost screamed 'lying,' and he hoped this wasn't a trip to gather up some useless items. He had, however, given his word, and even if she spent time looking for worthless things, he could hunt around for things he might be able to bring back to the island. She didn't look like the kind of person to do things for inane reasons, so he was interested in what exactly she was going out of the safehouse for. In any case, he was along for the ride, since he wasn't the kind of person to go back on an offer or a promise. "I have some space. I'm not fitting any books in here, and there's really not much I can take out," he refrained from mentioning that it was made up by the weapons he carried around and the medical kit he tried to keep as stocked as possible, though he'd been using or giving out more than he was putting back in lately, so finding anything to fill the case back up was a priority.
He was slightly relieved when she took up a machete, and by now, the sight of someone like her carrying around such a strange weapon had long since been a norm that he didn't think twice about it. He wasn't sure how proficient she was with it, but she at least seemed to hold it with some sort of confidence and didn't look like she might accidentally stab herself with it at any moment.
The way the city looked was so different. Without the usual upkeep, the streets were starting to crumble, and New York was prone enough to potholes when there were people dedicated to watching them happen, cause insane traffic and take three weeks to fix it. A lot of the buildings looks bizarre, vacant and empty as they were. A few of the high story windows were broken and Brennan couldn't help seeing people throwing themselves from them to their death down below. It was a terrible image and he tried very hard to push it out of his mind.
"I haven't been to NYU in a long time." He mused, thinking about the last time he'd been there, which was to pick up his brother Mihael to bring him up to their parents' house. He scanned the area and found that they were in fact not exceedingly far from the grounds. They were walking at a decent pace and it wouldn't be long before they got there.
Brennan however was just looking around, checking for any movement. There was almost no sound anywhere and the tall, lifeless buildings seemed to enhance the silence. Keeping up their pace, they made it to the campus in less time than he anticipated. He didn't remember any of the buildings, not that he could recognize any of them anymore with the way years of weather and lack of upkeep wearing them down. "What building are we going into?" He asked, eyes again scanning the area. He pulled out the rifle for the time being, intending to try to pick off any lone zombies, though he was reluctant to do so for fear of alerting others, but he had a few knives at easy reach, so he could always use one of those as well. "And let me know if you see anything," he concluded, waiting for her to lead the way.
