Brennan, thinking about it now, actually thought it was really weird of himself to ask her to come along. She wasn't a normal resident of the Liberty Island safehouse; he was vaguely aware that she had come this way to bring jackets or something and was probably going to be on her way back to one of the other safehouses as soon as another ship made it back to the island. He sort of understood why some people didn't like the island despite how safe it was; it was an isolated camp and for some, it was disheartening. Brennan himself had always been a fan of being alone, but there was something different about this island. He couldn't put his finger on it, and he usually didn't dell on it, since he had pretty much made this place home now, as much of a home this could be and what one could have nowadays.
Thinking back to the originator of his digression, he slowly concluded that it was just for company. He wasn't really an easy person to get along with, and he knows it, but sometimes it wasn't awful to just not be walking around the island accompanied by only his thoughts and the air of tension that followed him everywhere he went.
He followed his usual route, and he couldn't help but notice that he was starting to actually make a defined path. He didn't notice it until now. It was another quiet night, but he didn't let his guard down, eyes everywhere, checking everything and anything that moved.
"This?" He repeated, eyes still darting around the landscape. "I've been patrolling almost every night since I got here, which was... god, something like four years ago." That actually stalled him a little. He'd lost all track of time around the moment when he watched his father reluctantly murder his own wife. He never really stopped to think about things like time anymore. He stopped living for anything but tomorrow since that day. "How long are you going to be here?" He asked, failing at small talk; he usually did his patrols alone and even then, he'd never been one to talk to hear his own voice and he had been awkward at socializing his entire life.
