WHAT: MORE Halloween fun. Mischief, etc.
WHERE: The area near the chicken coop.
WHEN: Forward-dated to Halloween night.
RATING: Medium, maybe?
If there was such a thing as a Halloween miracle, the fact that Everett had found his way here was definitely it. Since he'd found her, since Nick had led him to her, Caitie had been perpetually bouncing. Hyper was definitely the flavor of the week. She was sure, given the history of this place, that something would come along and smush that happiness sooner or later, but for now, she was enjoying it for what it was and engaging in some Halloween fun with Maddie. Her Britney Spears getup was a little bit cold, but it looked good and she was having fun wearing it, so she'd deal with the cold she'd probably pick up from it. Maddie's costume looked... really good. Caitie had a vague familiarity with the fact that she liked girls—she'd never kissed any or anything like that, and the only boy she'd kissed was her next door neighbor when she was five—and the way she felt about Maddie was changing every day. She'd quickly gone from “awesome big sister type friend who is totally my hero” to “awesome friend who is really cute and fun,” and she really hoped it didn't go too much further than that because Maddie was way too cool to ever like someone like her. And besides, Maddie probably didn't even like girls. They'd gone to a couple of the different parties on the grounds... but all of them were pretty boring. The kids party was very much a kids party—Caitie could tell that every last game they played was dumb—and the grown ups party was way too boring. They were playing stupid drinking games, which probably wouldn't have been so boring if they hadn't already been super drunk. It was at about that point that an idea hit her. “Idea!” she shouted as they exited the party, her finger in the air and her eyes wide with excitement. “Remember how I said I wanted to go egging?” she asked. They were about twenty feet from the chicken coop and Caitie pointed in that direction with a mischievous eyebrow raise. That was one of her favorite things about Maddie. One of the things she liked. One of the things that made her best friend her favorite person, aside from her brother anyway. The fact that any idea she had wasn't just dismissed because she was a dumb eighteen year old. “If we each take four and pick four people apiece to egg, it won't totally ruin the breakfast menus, right?” The chickens laid a ton of eggs a day anyway. |
