"No one talks about it much, from what I've heard," Allie nodded her agreement. For all they knew, Castle Clinton had already been overrun by the undead and no one had thought to report it. That thought nagged at the corner of her mind, but it vanished the moment Ollie said it was a good choice.
Allie did manage to muster up a smile for that particular year of Christmas cards. "I remember. You looked like you had giant chicken pox." She laughed. The outfit she'd been put in to portray A Dolly for Sue had been cute, with its pink polka-dots. "You were an adorable elephant."
That's what she wanted to hear. Ollie was right. Their uncle was out there, somewhere. He'd find them someday, and then they'd be a family again.
Exhaling, Allie tried to ignore the smell of blood that still lingered on her fingers. Tomorrow, when the light was better, she could clean them properly. Until then, she was ready for some sleep.
