Maybe someone else would have bought that Allie had been sleeping all this time. Maybe someone else would have looked at her and not seen the telltale worry lines that crossed her face. When he saw the look on her face, Ollie instantly felt terrible for worrying her so much. There were so many people in the world that Ollie wouldn't give two shits if he disappointed. His sister wasn't one of them. Allie was by and large what kept him going strong this whole time and the fact that he'd so obviously let her down was getting to him more than he expected it to.
But maybe that was the still-present Cognac buzz talking.
He made a face when she grabbed his cheek and looked it over, and winced at the pain that the sudden movement brought to him. "Ow," he hissed, turning his eyes to look at her and scoffing a little bit. "You know that does hurt!" he added.
Turning his head to look at her, he heaved a soft sigh and smoothed a hand through his hair, scratching the back of his head. "We had a drink on a rickety fire escape and… it kind of collapsed," he explained, knowing that it would do little to nothing to assuage her worry. That, partnered with the fact that he was pretty sure she'd get even angrier with him, was why he didn't mention the zombies.
