"Government puppet?" She repeated, raising her eyebrows. "You immune or something?" Laney never agreed with the whole idea that some people looted for the good of others. It wasn't fair. Why should someone, anyone, risk their lives just so someone else could eat? Especially people who have no familial relation to each other, or are even remotely acquainted. Laney certainly didn't loot for anything but herself, and occasionally her missing brother. She'd made sure that the people in charge knew she was coming back with just enough stuff for only one person, too. She was almost positive they weren't happy with her, but what more could they do. She wasn't immune as far as she knew, and they had no hold over her. She'd already lost everything, except the will to live. And they weren't exactly going to kill her, were they?
At his apology, she shrugged her shoulders. "I don't mind breaking into a liquor store. I've done it before, you know." Okay, she hadn't. She'd never robbed a place in her entire life, except maybe the grocery store when she was five. But Ollie didn't know that, did he? And besides, how was he supposed to know if she was talking about lately or before? She grinned to herself and poured some more cognac, forgetting her previous notion that she'd wait for him to finish. They couldn't very well play a game with her glass empty.
"Three, five...I know some people who don't even use fingers and just go shot for shot. It's up to you, really." She took a quick little sip of her drink. It still burned, and tasted horrible. But what could she do? She'd already complained. "Oh, I know Rae. She's the one who brought me to Madison. Your sister is friends with her?" Sarah? No. Laney knew Sarah's siblings, and none of them had a twin. It must have been Allie. Laney quickly masked her displeasure at this discovery with another quick sip. There. Now he'd think she was frowning because of the God-awful booze.
They needed to get the show on the road though. Laney didn't want to waste any more time talking about girls he didn't like, or friends, or siblings in general. She wanted to forget about all that. She wanted to do exactly what she came out there to do. Drink. "Alright. I'll start, since you won't. I've never...." She paused, for what she hoped to be dramatic effect, but was actually just her thinking. "Had sex in public." It was true. And maybe she could have opened with a more innocent topic, but the girl hadn't had sex in four years. Sue her.
