Twins. Well. That explained it. Laney wasn't one to dispute a sibling relationship, considering. But she didn't like the fact that Ollie claimed to be lost without his other half. It just seemed...weak. Not to mention, inaccurate, just a little bit. She wasn't there now, and he seemed just fine. Which meant that it was mostly a mental thing, and that was possibly even worse. "So, she stays in the safehouse, and you go running around looking for booze and trouble with people you don't even know? What would she say if she knew?"
Not bothering to wait for an answer, Laney brought the glass back to her lips and tipped back the rest of the liquid. It still stung, and made her eyes water in an unpleasant way, but it was starting to feel slightly warmer as it traveled down her body. Sadly, unlike Ollie, it brought back no memories for her. Her and Ben had never sat around drinking expensive liquors in their apartment. And they could never afford something so extravagant when they lived with their mother. She'd have to take his word for it, that it induced feelings of nostalgia, though she didn't inquire as to what they were. If she were him, she wouldn't have wanted him to ask.
"Maybe you can do the cognac again, and I can have something lighter, like vodka?" She placed her glass on the fire escape, waiting for him to finish his, for a refill. Eighty proof was just her limit, and she smirked at the idea forming in her head. "Want to make things interesting?" She held up three fingers. Her friends had always done it this way, though she'd heard of some people using five. And she'd heard of some people not using fingers at all. It really depended on Ollie's preference, as she didn't care either way. The rule was always the same. If you did something, you drank. Plain and simple, just like she liked it.
"And no," she said, after a moment. "I don't have any siblings." Ben was as good as dead, as far as she was concerned. Bringing him up would only make things more complicated. She didn't want to have to explain anything, or why she wouldn't give up on finding him, even if she'd accepted that his chances of survival were slim. Just as slim as hers, honestly. Though, he was a lot nicer than she'd ever been. If anything, he was the weak one, and the main reason Laney cut her ties so easily. "It's just me. And Rae. My...er. I guess she's the closest thing I have to a friend around here."
